  • Steel frame-type retaining walls(SFRW) are constructed by on site bolting of prefabricated steel frames and internal filling of materials such as rocks with the size of 150-300mm. Easy & fast construction, superior drainage performance and structural performance to rigorous site conditions are some of the merits of applying the SFRW to various construction sites. After the development of the structural details, a test construction of SFRW, with the height of 6m and 30m in length, was carried out at an apartment site. After completion, several months of monitoring was carried out on the structure to check displacement, tilting, settlement, soil pressures and drainage characteristics. The results of the structural behavior of SFRW along with its construction methods are presented in the paper.

  • In conventional cutting system of Heat-Shrink-Tube, workers operate cutting system after considering about length and quantity of heat-shrink-tube. So, not only work time and production cost is increased but also material is wasted because the data that workers have to consider is so much. In this paper, an effective cutting system of heat-shrink-tube was developed to reduce production cost, work time and waste of material. The cutting system consists of a supervisory computer installed inside a control room, a on-site computer installed on the work area, and a PLC system. In the developed system, a supervisory computer send work order to the on-site computer using LAN and the on-site computer operates the cutting system of the heatshrink-tube after it makes an array production order. Also, the on-site computer reports information to the supervisory computer when an accident happened.

  • On-line gamma monitoring system around KAERI-site was set up to monitor the radiation fluctuations in environment. Data on gamma exposure rates measured by the ionication chamber in the monitoring posts are transmitted to a computer of central control station with. radio telemetry transmission modem and monitored in real time. Radio telemetry transmission system is economical and reliable on handling and storing of data. This monitroing system can triger an early warning system in the event of abnormal radiation levels.

  • In this paper, we propose an Internet of Things (IoT) platform for ocean observation buoys. The proposed system consists of various sensor modules, a gateway, and a remote monitoring site. In order to integrate sensor modules with various communications interfaces, we propose a controller area network (CAN)-based sensor data packet and a protocol for the gateway. The proposed scheme supports the registration and management of sensor modules so as to make it easier for the buoy system to manage various sensor modules. Also, in order to extend communication coverage between ocean observation buoys and the monitoring site, we implement a multi-hop relay network based on a mesh network that can provide greater communication coverage than conventional buoy systems. In addition, we verify the operation of the implemented multi-hop relay network by measuring the received signal strength indication between buoy nodes and by observing the collected data from the deployed buoy systems via our monitoring site.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the rapid saving of life through the drones when natural disasters such as earthquake and fire occur. Drones are equipped with riders, temperature, hazardous gas sensors and wireless cameras are registered with the application server for monitoring the disaster site and real-time monitoring functions are performed to identify the situation on site before rescuing personnel are active. When monitoring finds a person to save, the application server provides real-time image information for effective life-saving.

  • One main purpose of environmental monitoring after oil spill is developing ESI (Environmental Sensitivity) Maps. Environmental impacts caused by the spilt oil are strongly depending upon the coastal topology and geology. Monitoring all impacted shorelines is almost impossible; using high-resolution satellite images such as IKONOS greatly contributes to improve the efficiency of on-site researches, at the same time, reliability of ESI maps.

  • As information technologies are developing, the improvement of the quality of life becomes worldwide issues. Especially, to improve the quality of life of a patient suffering intermittent diseases, in addition to the some portable equipments for measuring, analyzing, and notifying the status of the patients, methods of communication for seamless transmission of the measured data over to the remote site, such as an emergency center or a hospital, are required. In this paper, we address a seamless transmission of patient monitoring data such as ECG from a moving patient to a remote site, wherever the patient may be. We divide the whole environments into two wireless communication environments: an indoor one based on WLAN and an outdoor one based on CDMA cellular network in which the patient is assumed to move anywhere. We develop algorithms, implement them on a PDA-based hardware platform, and show some of the results for handover between the two environments in addition to the data transmission for each of the two environments.

  • Bottled water companies in Korea are required to conduct an environmental impact assessment of their drinking water supply at least six months before the expiration of their five-year marketing and production license. The water level drawdown, production well water quality, and monitoring well observation results are the most important items that are evaluated in the assessment report. Here we evaluate the relationship between well drawdown and pumping capacity with pumping time from the production wells of bottled water manufacturers located in Cretaceous granite (site A) and Precambrian gneiss (site B). The method to reduce the pumping capacity is more effective in decreasing the drawdown than the method to simultaneously control the pumping and recovery times. Furthermore, the monitoring data from the pH monitoring sensors that were installed in Precambrian gneiss (site C) yield pH values that increase with time and eventually plateau at a certain value. We therefore propose that pH monitoring is either discontinued or improved to provide more reliable and usable results.

  • The Tak flux measurement (TFM) site, one of the sites of Korean Flux Network (KoFlux) which is an infrastructure of AsiaFlux, is constructed at a northwest of Thailand. The eddy covariance technique is used for measuring energy, water and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) fluxes, and a real time monitoring and simulation system (RTMASS) developed for data acquisition and processing. The RTMASS is the core structure of the KoFlux-data information system (KoFlux-DIS) and consisted of a remote and a local system. Data acquisition and transmission, and data storage, processing and publishing are functions of those systems, respectively. As primary results about the characteristics of mean flow and turbulence analysis, TFM is a proper site to measure and analyze the various fluxes and those budgets on tropical deciduous forest.

  • The monitoring efficiency of the aircraft noise monitoring stations is decided to the reference noise level and the infringement of each monitoring stations. We calcurates the monitoring efficiency of three noise monitoring station among twelve in the vicinity of Gimpo Int'l Airport. As a result, the monitoring efficiency shows that the noise monitoring stations No#3, No#5 and No#6 are 14.3%, 18.5% and 29.3% respectively, Among them No#6 staion looks higher efficiency than another two stations because of underneath the flight trackas.
