Caching of frequently accessed data in multi-hop ad hoc environment is a technique that can improve data access performance and availability. Cooperative caching, which allows sharing and coordination of cached data among several clients, can further en-hance the potential of caching techniques. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy cooperative caching scheme in mobile ad hoc networks. The cache management of the proposed caching scheme not only uses adaptively CacheData or CachePath based on data sim-ilarity and data utility, but also uses the replacement manager based on data pro t. Also, the proposed caching scheme uses a prefetch manager. When the TTL of the cached data expires, the prefetch manager evaluates the popularity index of the data. If the popularity index is larger than a threshold, the data is prefetched. Otherwise, its space is released. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated analytically and is compared to that of other cooperative caching schemes.

With the rapid development of urban traffic system and fast increasing of vehicle numbers, the traditional centralized ways to generate the source-destination shortest path in terms of travel time(the optimal path) encounter several problems, such as high server pressure, low query efficiency, roads state without in-time updating. With the widespread use of smart cameras in the urban traffic and surveillance system, this paper maps the optimal path finding problem in the dynamic road network to the shortest routing problem in the smart camera networks. The proposed distributed optimal path generation algorithm employs the delay routing and caching mechanism. Real-time route update is also presented to adapt to the dynamic road network. The test result shows that this algorithm has advantages in both query time and query packet numbers.

Content-Centric Networking (CCN) is a new Internet architecture with routing and caching centered on contents. Through its receiver-driven and connectionless communication model, CCN natively supports the seamless mobility of nodes and scalable content acquisition. In-network caching is one of the core technologies in CCN, and the research of efficient caching scheme becomes increasingly attractive. To address the problem of unbalanced cache load distribution in some existing caching strategies, this paper presents a neighbor cooperation based in-network caching scheme. In this scheme, the node with the highest betweenness centrality in the content delivery path is selected as the central caching node and the area of its ego network is selected as the caching area. When the caching node has no sufficient resource, part of its cached contents will be picked out and transferred to the appropriate neighbor by comprehensively considering the factors, such as available node cache, cache replacement rate and link stability between nodes. Simulation results show that our scheme can effectively enhance the utilization of cache resources and improve cache hit rate and average access cost.

In-network caching is a key component of information-centric networking (ICN) for reducing content download time, network traffic, and server workload. Data center network (DCN) is an ideal candidate for applying the ICN design principles. In this paper, we have evaluated the effectiveness of caching placement and replacement in DCN with butterfly-topology. We also suggest a new cache placement policy based on the number of routing nodes (i.e., hop counts) through which travels the content. With a probability inversely proportional to the hop counts, the caching placement policy makes each routing node to cache content chunks. Simulation results lead us to conclude (i) cache placement policy is more effective for cache performance than cache replacement, (ii) the suggested cache placement policy has better caching performance for butterfly-type DCNs than the traditional caching placement policies such as ALWASYS and FIX(P), and (iii) high cache hit ratio does not always imply low average hop counts.

Now a days, Efficient processing of Broadcast Queries is of critical importance with the ever-increasing deployment and use of mobile technologies. BQs have certain unique characteristics that the traditional spatial query processing in centralized databases does not address. In novel query processing technique, by maintaining high scalability and accuracy, latency is reduced considerably in answering BQs. Novel approach is based on peer-to-peer sharing, which enables us to process queries without delay at a mobile host by using query results cached in its neighboring mobile peers. We design and evaluate cooperative caching techniques to efficiently support data access in ad hoc networks. We first propose two schemes: Cache Data, which caches the data, and Cache Path, which caches the data path. After analyzing the performance of those two schemes, we propose a hybrid approach (Hybrid Cache), which can further improve the performance by taking advantage of Cache Data and Cache Path while avoiding their weaknesses. Cache replacement policies are also studied to further improve the performance. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the query delay and message complexity when compared to other caching schemes.
For enhancing network efficiency, various applications/services like CDN and P2P try to utilize content which have previously been cached somewhere. Content-centric networking (CCN) also utilizes data caching functionality. However, dislike CDN/P2P, CCN implements such a function on network nodes. Then, any intermediated nodes can directly respond to request messages for cached data. Hence, it is essential which content is cached as well as which nodes cache transmitted content. Basically, CCN propose for every nodes on the path from the content publisher of transmitted object to a requester to cache the object. However, such an approach is inefficient considering the utilization of cached objects as well as the storage overhead of each node. Hence, various caching mechanisms are proposed to enhance the storage efficiency of a node. In this paper, we analyze the performance of such mechanisms and compare the characteristics of such mechanisms. Also, we analyze content utilization patterns and apply such pattern to caching mechanisms to analyze the practicalism of the caching mechanisms.
We propose centralized server based QoS routing schemes, where a route server is responsible for determining QoS paths on behalf of all the routers in a routing domain. In the proposed server based schemes, the dynamic link QoS state information, which is required for a QoS path computation, is implicitly maintained at route server as it assigns or gets back QoS paths. By maintaining the network state information this way, we may not only eliminate the overhead to exchange network state update message but also achieve higher routing performance by utilizing accurate network state information in path computation. We discuss path caching techniques for reducing the amount of path computation overhead at the route server, and evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes using simulation. The simulation results show that the path caching schemes may significantly reduce the route server load. The proposed schemes are also compared to the distributed QoS routing schemes proposed in the literature. It has been shown that the proposed server based schemes not only enhance the routing performance, but they are also competitive with respect to routing overheads.

Information Centric Networking (ICN) has recently attracted great attention. It names the content decoupling from the location and introduces network caching, making the content to be cached anywhere within the network. The benefits of such design are obvious, however, many challenges still need to be solved. Among them, the local caching policy is widely discussed and it can be further divided into two parts, namely the cache permission policy and the cache replacement policy. The former is used to decide whether an incoming content should be cached while the latter is used to evict a cached content if required. The Internet is a user-oriented network and popular contents always have much more requests than unpopular ones. Caching such popular contents closer to the user's location can improve the network performance, and consequently, the local caching policy is required to identify popular contents. However, considering the line speed requirement of ICN routers, the local caching policy whose complexity is larger than O(1) cannot be applied. In terms of the replacement policy, Least Recently Used (LRU) is selected as the default one for ICN because of its low complexity, although its ability to identify the popular content is poor. Hence, the identification of popular contents should be completed by the cache permission policy. In this paper, a cache permission policy called Cache-Filter, whose complexity is O(1), is proposed, aiming to store popular contents closer to users. Cache-Filter takes the content popularity into account and achieves the goal through the collaboration of on-path nodes. Extensive simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of Cache-Filter. Leave Copy Down (LCD), Move Copy Down (MCD), Betw, ProbCache, ProbCache+, Prob(p) and Probabilistic Caching with Secondary List (PCSL) are also implemented for comparison. The results show that Cache-Filter performs well. For example, in terms of the distance to access to contents, compared with Leave Copy Everywhere (LCE) used by Named Data Networking (NDN) as the permission policy, Cache-Filter saves over 17% number of hops.
In e-business, XML is a major format of data and it is essential to efficiently process queries against XML data. XML query caching has received much attention for query performance improvement. In employing XML query caching, some efficient technique of cache replacement is required. The previous techniques considered as a replacement unit either the whole query result or the path in the query result. The former is simple to employ but it is not efficient whereas the latter is more efficient and yet the size difference among the potential victims is large, and thus, efficiency of caching would be limited. In this paper, we propose a new technique where the element in the query result is are placement unit to overcome the limitations of the previous techniques. The proposed technique could enhance the cache efficiency to a great extent because it would not pick a victim whose size is too large to store a new cached item, the variance in the size of victims would be small, and the unused space of the cache storage would be small. A technique of XML semantic cache replacement is presented which is based on the replacement function that takes into account cache hit ratio, last access time, fetch time, size of XML semantic region, size of element in XML semantic region, etc. We implemented a prototype XML semantic cache system that employs the proposed technique, and conducted a detailed set of experiments over a LAN environment. The experimental results showed that our proposed technique outperformed the previous ones.
Networking services based on the flying drones may cause many handover events because the coverage radius is narrower than that of the existing infrastructure, such as cellular networks. Therefore, it copes with frequent handover by pre-caching data to target network provider before handover using a content store. As a result of the simulation, it can be confirmed that the delay is lowered. This is because the data that was requested before the handover is delivered to the target drones, and the car that has completed the handover receives the data through the target drones. On the other hand, if the proposed method is not used, it can be confirmed that the delay is increased. This is because it can not cope with the path change due to the handover and re-sends the packet requesting the data.
