Experimental Study of Spacecraft Pose Estimation Algorithm Using Vision-based Sensor

  • This paper presents a vision-based relative pose estimation algorithm and its validation through both numerical and hardware experiments. The algorithm and the hardware system were simultaneously designed considering actual experimental conditions. Two estimation techniques were utilized to estimate relative pose; one was a nonlinear least square method for initial estimation, and the other was an extended Kalman Filter for subsequent on-line estimation. A measurement model of the vision sensor and equations of motion including nonlinear perturbations were utilized in the estimation process. Numerical simulations were performed and analyzed for both the autonomous docking and formation flying scenarios. A configuration of LED-based beacons was designed to avoid measurement singularity, and its structural information was implemented in the estimation algorithm. The proposed algorithm was verified again in the experimental environment by using the Autonomous Spacecraft Test Environment for Rendezvous In proXimity (ASTERIX) facility. Additionally, a laser distance meter was added to the estimation algorithm to improve the relative position estimation accuracy. Throughout this study, the performance required for autonomous docking could be presented by confirming the change in estimation accuracy with respect to the level of measurement error. In addition, hardware experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm and its applicability to actual tasks in the real world.

An Improved Technique for Fault Location Estimation Considering Shunt Capacitance on Transmission Line

  • This paper presents a new two-terminal numerical algorithm for fault location estimation using the synchronized phasor in time-domain. The proposed algorithm is also based on the synchronized voltage and current phasor measured from the PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed at both ends of the transmission lines. In this paper, the algorithm is given without shunt capacitance and with shunt capacitance using II -model and estimated using DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and LES (Least Error Squares Method). The algorithm uses a very short data window and classification for real-time transmission line protection. To verify the validity of the proposed algorithm, the Electro-Magnetic Transient Program (EMTP) and MATLAB are used.

  • This paper presents an intelligent electronic device(IED) platform which is based on a new frequency estimation algorithm. The IED platform features not only the accurate estimation of frequency but also the fast network-based transmisstion of fault data and waveforms. The simulation results show that the proposed frequency estimation algorithm improves convergence speed, and has lower frequency estimation error compared with those of conventional algorithms. The network-based IED is designed to ensure transmission latency being less than 1.0% of sampling interval.

Online Probability Density Estimation of Nonstationary Random Signal using Dynamic Bayesian Networks

  • We present two estimators for discrete non-Gaussian and nonstationary probability density estimation based on a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN). The first estimator is for off line computation and consists of a DBN whose transition distribution is represented in terms of kernel functions. The estimator parameters are the weights and shifts of the kernel functions. The parameters are determined through a recursive learning algorithm using maximum likelihood (ML) estimation. The second estimator is a DBN whose parameters form the transition probabilities. We use an asymptotically convergent, recursive, on-line algorithm to update the parameters using observation data. The DBN calculates the state probabilities using the estimated parameters. We provide examples that demonstrate the usefulness and simplicity of the two proposed estimators.

  • In this paper, a new high resolution reflectometry scheme, time-frequency domain reflectometry(TFDR), isproposed to detect and estimate a fault in a transmission line. Traditional reflectometry methodologies have been achieved either in the time domain or in the frequency domain only. However, the TFDR can jump over the performance limits of the traditional reflectometry methodologies because the acquired signal is analyzed in time and frequency domain simultaneously. In the TFDR, the new reference signal and the novel TFDR algorithm are proposed for analyzing the acquired signal in the time-frequency domain. Because the reference signal of Gaussian envelop chirp signal is localized in the time and frequency domain simultaneously, it is suitable to the analysis in the time-frequency domain. In the proposed TFDR algorithm, the time-frequency distribution function and the normalized time-frequency cross correlation function are used to detect and estimate a fault in a transmission line. That algorithm is verified for real-world coaxial cables which are typical transmission line with different types of faults by the TFDR system composed of real instruments. The performance of the TFDR methodology is compared with that o( the commercial time domain reflectomeoy(TDR) experiments, so that concludes the TFDR methodology can detect and estimate the fault with smaller error than TDR methodology.

미디어프로세서 상의 고속 움직임 탐색을 위한 Hexagon 모양 라인 탐색 알고리즘 (Hexagon-shape Line Search Algorithm for Fast Motion Estimation on Media Processor)

  • 대부분의 고속 블록 움직임 추정 알고리즘은 탐색점의 수를 줄여서 연산량을 감소시킨다. 하지만 이러한 고속 움직임 추정 알고리즘들은 비정규화 데이터 흐름 때문에 멀티미디어 프로세서에서는 좋은 성능을 보이기 어렵다. 미디어 프로세서에서는 내부 메모리에서 데이터의 효과적인 재사용이 SAD 명령의 수를 줄이는 것보다 더욱 중요하다. 이는 수행 사이클의 성능이 외부 메모리 액세스의 횟수에 매우 의존적이기 때문이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 내부 메모리로부터 데이터를 효과적으로 재사용 할 수 있는 라인 탐색 패턴과 라인 탐색 패턴에서 불필요한 SAD 연산을 줄이기 위한 서브 샘플링 방법을 적용한 Hexagon 모양 라인 탐색(Hexagon-shape line search, HEXSLS) 기법을 제안한다. 모의실험을 통하여 HEXSLS 기법의 MAE 성능은 전역 탐색 블록 정합(FSBMA) 기법과 비슷하고, Hexagon 기반 탐색 (Hexagon-based search) 보다 우수한 성능을 가짐을 보인다. 또한 HEXSLS는 Hexagon 기반 탐색이나 예측 라인 탐색(predictive line search) 기법보다 적은 외부 메모리의 액세스가 발생한다. 결과적으로, 제안한 HEXSLS 기법은 종래의 기법과 비교하여 미디어 프로세서에서 매우 낮은 수행 사이클 성능을 보인다.

A Study on the Gustafson-Kessel Clustering Algorithm in Power System Fault Identification

  • This paper presents an approach of the Gustafson-Kessel (GK) clustering algorithm's performance in fault identification on power transmission lines. The clustering algorithm is incorporated in a scheme that uses hybrid intelligent technique to combine artificial neural network and a fuzzy inference system, known as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The scheme is used to identify the type of fault that occurs on a power transmission line, either single line to ground, double line, double line to ground or three phase. The scheme is also capable an analyzing the fault location without information on line parameters. The range of error estimation is within 0.10 to 0.85 relative to five values of fault resistances. This paper also presents the performance of the GK clustering algorithm compared to fuzzy clustering means (FCM), which is particularly implemented in structuring a data. Results show that the GK algorithm may be implemented in fault identification on power system transmission and performs better than FCM.

  • For on-line ARMA spectral estimation, the fast transversal filter algorithm of extended least squares method(ETS FTF) is presented. The projection operator, a key tool for geometric approach, is used in the derivation of the algorithm. ELS FTF is a fast time update recursion which is based on the fact that the correlation matrix of ARMA model satisfies the shift invariance property in each block, and thus it takes 10N+31 MADPR.

  • Parameter estimation method of induction motor for vector control is presented in this paper. It can be easily implemented and applied to inverters in the industrial field, because it needs no additional hardware such as voltage sensors and measuring equipment. The proposed algorithm in this paper is so straightforward and practical that it can be easily implemented on the built-in controllers with little overhead. The proposed estimation algorithm has good accuracy and repeatability for parameters due to the sensitivity of estimation errors. This enables its total consuming time to be made shorter. Experimental results and applications in the industrial fields verify the validity and usefulness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, recursive least square algorithm is presented to estimate the parameters of step motor under low-speed operation. Parameter estimation is important for compensating the input current by calculating the ratio of the motor torque constant and detent torque constant that causes torque-ripple in low-speed applications. On-line parameter estimation process is a preliminary procedure to apply step motor to adaptive control. Computer simulation shows that the estimated parameters converge in finite time.
