  • Commonly, a live-line alarm can be used to measure the electric field strength of a high-voltage system to calculate its current, but it is hard to detect the electric field of shielded cables or concealed structures, such as underground distribution cables. Current sensors can detect the magnetic field in a single core wire, but they cannot determine the magnetic field about a double-core wire because the currents flow in opposite directions. Therefore, it is very difficult to detect certain current problems, such as a fault current in an extension line comprised of a double line. In this paper, to ultimately develop a sensor that can detect the current regardless of line conditions, we used a simulation to determine the concentration of the magnetic field dependent on the distribution of the external magnetic field and the path of each line's core.

  • To apply the superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) into a power system, the analysis for its recovery characteristics as well as the consideration for its cooperation with other protecting machine such as a circuit breaker is required. The recovery characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL like its current limiting characteristics are dependent on the winding direction of two coils. In this paper, the experiments of the current limiting and the recovery characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL with YBCO thin film were performed. From the analysis on the experimental results due to the winding direction of two coils, the limited fault current in case of the additive polarity winding was observed to be lower than that for the case of the subtractive polarity winding. In addition, the recovery time was found to be faster in case of the additive polarity winding compared to the subtractive polarity winding.

  • Cycloconverters can be classified into two types by the main circuit configuration. One is the non- circulating current type required the dead time the other is circulating current type which has the circulating current reactors. The switching devices were highly stressed by the load voltages during dead time on non-circulating current type operation and the circulating currents on circulating current type operation. The overcome those problems, this paper proposes the switching patterns for the partial and the non circulation current type. The PWM methods, which are saw wave comparing method and load current integrating value comparing method, are presented.

  • A finite difference model for predicting time-dependent, wave-induced nearshore current is studied. The model includes wave refraction, wave-current interaction, bottom friction and wind effect. This model iteratively solved the linear the linear set of conservation of both mass and momentum, which were time averaged (over one wave period) and depth integrated, for mean velocities and free surface displacement. Numerical simulations of nearshore current under oblique wave attack, and for wave and wind induced current on a longshore periodic beach are carried out. Longshore velocities tend to zero in some distances outside the breaker line. And the peak velocity is shifted shoreward at the breaker line. The results represent the general characteristics of the nearshore current induced by wave.

  • Two dimensional MEDICI simulator is used to study the characteristics of latch-up current of Dual Gate Emitter Switched Thyristor. The simulation is done in terms of the current-voltage characteristics, latch-up current density, ON-voltage drop and electrical property with the variations of p-base impurity concentrations. Compared with the other power devices such as MOS Controlled Cascade Thyristor(MCCT), Conventional Emitter Switched Thyristor(C-EST) and Dual Channel Emitter Switched Thyristor(DC-EST), Dual Gate Emitter Switched Thyristor(DG-EST) shows to have the better electrical characteristics, which is the high latch-up current density and low forward voltage-drop. The proposed DG-EST which has a non-planer p-base structure under the floating $N^+$ emitter indicates to have the better characteristics of latch-up current and breakover voltage.

  • In electrical railway system, power supplied to electrical locomotive by catenary is returned to sub-station on track. The current returned to sub-station on track is return current, which is an essential factor for the safety of the wayside electrical equipment and maintenance staff. Therefore, earth system acts an important role to protect wayside electrical equipment and maintenance staff against return current. In general, individual earth system protects partially the electrical railway system, but common earth system does the whole electrical railway system and minimizes the flow of return current. In this paper, we are compared the effect of return current according to earth type by actual measurement in existing electrical railway system. The measurement was conducted at Shinchungju sub~station in high speed trains, and Guro sub-station, which is electrified section in classical line.

  • In this paper, the stress induced leakage currents of thin silicon oxides is investigated in the MEMS implementation with nano structure. The stress and transient currents associated with the on and off time of applied voltage were used to measure the distribution of high voltage stress induced traps in thin silicon oxide films. The oxide current for the thickness dependence of stress current, transient current, and stress induced leakage currents has been measured in oxides with thicknesses between $41{\AA}$, which have the gate area $10^{-3}cm^2$. The stress current, transient current is used to estimate to fundamental limitations on oxide thicknesses.

  • Current loads acting on offshore vessels are important for predicting the hydrodynamic and structural responses of the vessels. It is also true for analyzing the behavior of moored systems under the action of ocean current. Unfortunately there are few standardized current load coefficients for offshore vessels and it is extremely difficult to be applied to arbitrary hull shapes, if any. Therefore current load coefficients for three hull shapes are calculated in this study using a CFD code, which is well known in the shipbuilding industry. In order to validate the present approach, a typical VLCC is taken as numerical example and resulting current coefficients are compared with experiment together with the OCIMF data. The comparison shows a good agreement in the qualitative sense. Two additional models considered herein are a shuttle tanker and a FPSO under deepwater condition $(WD/T{\geq}6)$. The present numerical approach may be utilized for practical design of offshore vessels.

  • In this paper, the stress induced leakage currents of thin silicon oxides is investigated in the ULSI implementation with nano structure transistors. The stress and transient currents associated with the on and off time of applied voltage were used to measure the distribution of high voltage stress induced traps in thin silicon oxide films. The stress and transient currents were due to the charging and discharging of traps generated by high stress voltage in the silicon oxides. The transient current was caused by the tunnel charging and discharging of the stress generated traps nearby two interfaces. The stress induced leakage current will affect data retention in electrically erasable programmable read only memories. The oxide current for the thickness dependence of stress current, transient current, and stress induced leakage currents has been measured in oxides with thicknesses between $113.4{\AA}$ and $814{\AA}$, which have the gate area 10-3cm2. The stress induced leakage currents will affect data retention and the stress current, transient current is used to estimate to fundamental limitations on oxide thicknesses.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a mathematical model of welding current for the P-GMAW by modifying the well known GMAW model. Welding power circuit is simply modeled as a RL electric circuit and solved as an ODE equation. The welding current depends on the joint shape, molten pool and welding parameters. To compare the molten pool effect to the welding current, CFD numerical simulation technique was adopted. Welding experiment is also conducted with the same welding parameters as used in numerical simulations to verify the proposed welding current model. The current model which is considered molten pool shape, is more fit to experiment result.
