  • In this paper, we present a MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) implantable blood pressure sensor which has designed and fabricated with consideration of size, design flexibility, and wireless detection. Mechanical and electrical characterizations of the sensor were obtained by mathematical analysis and computer aided simulation. The sensor is composed of two coils and a air gap capacitor formed by separation of the coils. Therefore, the sensor produces its resonant frequency which is changed by external pressure variation. This frequency movement is detected by inductive coupling between the sensor and an external antenna coil. Theoretically analyzed resonant frequency of the sensor under 760 mmHg was calculated to 269.556 MHz. Fused silica was selected as sensor material with consideration of chemical and electrical reaction of human body to the material. $2mm{\times}5mm{\times}0.5mm$ pressure sensors fitted to radial artery were fabricated on the substrates by consecutive microfabrication processes: sputtering, etching, photolithography, direct bonding and laser welding. Resonant frequencies of the fabricated sensors were in the range of 269~284 MHz under 760 mmHg pressure.

  • This study described and illustrated the morphology of the sawfly's larva Monocellicampa pruni Wei, 1998 for the first time. Our observations confirmed that its larval biology associated with Japanese plum Prunus salicina Lindl included five instars. The larvae of M. pruni are allied to the general morphology of subfamily Nematinae with a cylindrical body, globose head, 4-segmented antenna, thoracic legs with a distinct claw, and 5 dorsal annulets on abdominal segments I - VIII. The absence of anal prolegs after the first molting shows a distinction with the larvae of genus Hoplocampa.

  • In this paper, we suggest a design method of a wide-band Butler matrix working at 5.9 GHz for V2X communication antennas. Since V2X communication needs beam-forming and beam-steering antennas to make transportation systems, mobile comm platforms, saturated frequency-resources, and signal TX-and-RX smart, multi-functional, resolved, and efficient utmost, respectively, the proper Butler matrix and its radiating elements as a low-profile geometry are realized. The constitutive components of the basic Butler matrix of a narrow band are designed first. And then, it is extended to a wide-band version to make its frequency-shift less affected by the event of the antenna system being mounted on a car body. The beam-forming and beam-steering performance is presented as the common feature tagged along with the different bandwidths of the frequency responses as the comparison between the narrow- and wide-band cases.

  • In this paper, a 3-port waveguide circulator of Ka-band millimeter-wave for isolation between transmit channel and receive channel at high power transmit mode is designed and fabricated for the seeker of the guided missile and circulator performance is verified through the S-parameter, high power and operation temperature test. At the configuration design, interface design between a seeker antenna and the circulator is considered and half-height of standard waveguide is applied for minimum and light weight body. The shape of permanent magnet and ferrite is optimized by simulation and tuning dielectrics at each port are placed for the best performance. In Fc(center frequency)${\pm}1000MHz$, designed waveguide circulator has below -20 dB return loss, below 0.5 dB insertion loss and below -23 dB isolation. It is found that circulator characteristics is similar to design results.

  • In this paper, dual axes waveguide rotary joint, which operates at high power and has low loss characteristic, is designed and fabricated for a Ka-band millimeter-wave small radar. Its electrical performance is verified through the S-parameter at room temperature, high power and operation temperature test. Rotary joint functionally consists of the mode converter transforming rectangular waveguide into circular waveguide and the choke at the rotation part. At the configuration design, linking a fixed transmitter to an antenna rotating dual axes electrically for minimum loss and light weight body are considered. In Fc(center frequency)${\pm}500MHz$, the designed rotary joint has VSWR 1.5:1 below return loss, -2.0 dB above insertion loss. It is found that rotary joint characteristics is similar to design results.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of IoT based smart wearable mine detection device. There are various mine detection methods currently used by the military. Still, in the general field, mine detection is performed by visual detection, probe detection, detector detection, and other detection methods. The detection method by the detector is using a GPR sensor on the detector, which is possible to detect metals, but it is difficult to identify non-metals. It is hard to distinguish whether the area where the detection was performed or not. Also, there is a problem that a lot of human resources and time are wasted, and if the user does not move the sensor at a constant speed or moves too fast, it is difficult to detect landmines accurately. Therefore, we studied the smart wearable mine detection device composed of human body antenna, main microprocessor, smart glasses, body-mounted LCD monitor, wireless data transmission, belt type power supply, black box camera, which is to improve the problem of the error of mine detection using unidirectional ultrasonic sensing signal. Based on the results of this study, we will conduct an experiment to confirm the possibility of detecting underground mines based on the Internet of Things (IoT). This paper consists of an introduction, experimental environment composition, simulation analysis, and conclusion. Introduction introduces the research contents such as mines, mine detectors, and research progress. It consists of large anti-personnel mine, M16A1 fragmented anti-mine, M15 and M19 antitank mines, plastic bottles similar to mines and aluminum cans. Simulation analysis is conducted by using MATLAB to analyze the mine detection device implementation performance, generating and transmitting IoT signals, and analyzing each received signal to verify the detection performance of landmines. Then we will measure the performance through the simulation of IoT-based mine detection algorithm so that we will prove the possibility of IoT-based detection landmine.

  • This study was aimed to elucidate the physiological function of a pair of protuberances like bifurcated horns developed on the anterior part of pupa in Coboldia fuscipes (Diptera: Scatopsidae), a pest on the oyster mushroom. In the morphological characteristics, larvae had a pair of 0.04 mm long microspines at their second body segment. Pupae had a pair of protuberances like bifurcated horns of 0.55 mm long on the anterior part and six pairs of spines, 0.12 mm long, at the posterior part of the abdomen. The microspines-removed 4th instar C. fuscipes larvae developed into pupae without a pair of the protuberances. After emergence, however, the adults have a pair of antenna normal regardless of with or without the protuberances. As ecological characteristics at the pupation, the pupa without a pair of the protuberances have a tendency to pupate outside the medium. However, development characteristics of the microspines-removed larvae were very similar to those of control larvae. In the result of microscopic observation, a pair of the protuberances was connected wit six pairs of spines by lateral longitudinal trunck and formed a tracheal system. In conclusion, this results implicates that the protuberances have an important role as a respiratory horn during the pupal period.

  • The Chironomidae is a benthic macroinvertebrate commonly found in freshwater ecosystems, along with Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera, which can be used for environmental health assessments. There are approximately 15,000 species of Chironomidae worldwide, but there are limited studies on species identification of domestic Chironomidae larvae. In the present study, we carried out species classification of the Chironomidae larvae that found in Jeju's tap water purification plants using morphological characteristics and genetic identification based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene of the mitochondrial DNA. Body shape, mentum, antenna, mandible in the head capsule, and claws were observed in the larvae for morphological classification. Analysis of 17 larvae collected from faucets and fire hydrants of domestic tap water purification plants revealed the presence of two species, including 14 Orthocladius tamarutilus and 3 Paratrichocladius tammaater. These results will aid the use of the criteria information about species classification of the Chironomidae for water quality management in water purification plants and diversity monitoring of freshwater environments.
