Optimization of Design Parameters of a EPPR Valve Solenoid using Artificial Neural Network (인공 신경회로망을 이용한 전자비례 감압밸브의 솔레노이드 형상 최적화)

  • Unlike the commonly used On/Off solenoid, constant attraction force which is independent of plunger displacement is a considerably important characteristic to proportional solenoid of the EPPR Valve. Attraction force uniformity is mainly affected by the internal shape design parameters. Due to a number of shape design parameters, the optimal parameter values are very complex and time consuming to find by trial and error method. Much research has been conducted or are still in progress to find the optimal parameter values by applying various optimization techniques like Genetic Algorithm, Evolution Strategy, Simulated Annealing, or the Taguchi method. In this paper, the design parameters which have primary effects on the attraction force uniformity and the average attraction force are decided by main effects analysis of Design of Experiments. Optimal parameter values are derived using finite-element analysis and a neural network model.

  • An experimental and theoretical study on a pneumatic servo system has been conducted using on-off valves and a pneumatic cylinder. A V/I converter has been designed for rapid rising and falling of the solenoid current, which significantly improves the positioning accuracy and settling time of the servo system by shortening the valve opening time. Pulse width modulation was modified to operate on-off valves effectively. A state feedback controller which feeds back position, velocity and acceleration is used to control the system. The influence of controller gains on the system performance is studied to develop a scheme that automatically adjusts the gains using fuzzy logic theory. It is shown experimentally that the proposed fuzzy logic tuner works satisfactorily. A new method for measurements of valve effective areas is proposed, and a partially polytropic model is applied to simulation of the pneumatic system. Simulated results show good agreement with experimental data.

  • In this study, A special quality analysis and experiment for low power consumption type pneumatic on-off micro valve was performed. And flow characteristics of the micro valve by stroke change was numerically investigated. As a result, it is shown that magnetic force(2.4N) is exerted enough to move poppet with 0.3mm stroke with 0.01 seconds of response time, and that there is no magnetic force emitted by yoke. Under the condition of poppet stroke smaller than about 0.8mm, dynamic pressure acts to poppet wall up to supply pressure level. But, that is decreasing to 40% when poppet stroke is 0.8mm.

  • In this study, an intelligent solenoid valve controller has been developed for automatic maintaining of filters in a dust collecting system. This controller has automatic controllability of solenoid valves' ON/OFF time depending on the clogging status of filters, and then it can extend the filters' lifetimes, decrease the power consumption, and make effective operation of the system possible. This controllability has been executed by the fuzzy theory that utilizes the workers' experimental knowledges, the control expert's knowledges and the differential pressures between the inlets and outlets measured by the sensors.

  • FCV is installed with a automatic valve attached in an high pressure cylinder to control the hydrogen flow. The supply of hydrogen from the cylinder into the fuel cell stack is controlled via the on/off operation of a solenoid attached to the automatic valve. The solenoid needs to provide the necessary attraction force even at any saturation temperature caused by drive of the vehicle. In this study, the simplified prediction equations for the saturation temperature are suggested. The finite element analysis was performed by steady state technique, according to the boundary condition in order to predict the saturation temperature and attraction force. Finally, the saturation temperature was validated through comparison between the analysis results and measurement results. From the results, the measured saturation temperature $5.9^{\circ}C$ lower with respect to the analysis results. And the error of attraction force ranged from 1.0 to 2.1 N at testing conditions.

A Study on Energy Saving Algorithm of Electro-Pneumatic Regulator with Modified PWM Driven Method

  • The development of an accurate and energy saving electro-pneumatic regulator that may be applied to a variety of practical pressure control applications is described in this paper. A novel modified pulse width modulation (MPWM) valve pulsing algorithm allows the electro-pneumatic regulator to become energy saving system. A comparison between the system response of conventional PWM algorithm and that of the modified PWM (MPWM) algorithm shows that the control performance is almost the same, but energy saving is greatly improved by adopting this new MPWM algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is demonstrated through experiments with various reference trajectories.

Development of the Small-displacement-movement of a Pneumatic piston and the Hybrid Control Algorithm for Precision Position Control (정밀 위치제어를 위한 공압 피스톤의 미소변위 이송방법 및 혼합 제어 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper proposes a methodology for the small-displacement-movement of a piston and develops a hybrid control algorithm for the precision position control of a pneumatic rodless cylinder. The pneumatic system uses the voltage-proportional solenoid valves to minimum valve switching since the on/off type valves are create diffculties for accurate position control and induce a lot of valve switching. For the accurate position control a methodology for the small-displacement-movement of the piston is developed and identified experimentally. The main consideration on the development of the hybrid control law is to eliminate a stick-slip phenomenon in the pneumatic control system. This paper addresses these critical issues and presents experimental results for the pneumatic control system.
