  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference between using computers for an Information Literacy Abilities of Young Children(ILAYC) and development of the ILAYC, with regard to following factors: computer use at home, learning in educational facilities for early childhood, and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. The data were obtained from random sampling of 4-year old children in educational facilities for early childhood located in J city. The research was conducted in order to measure ILAYC, using the questionnaire for teachers from September 3 to 27, 2009. The t-test to investigate computer utilization ability and information literacy ability for young children revealed that the ILAYC was not significantly influenced by their computer use at home, while the ILAYC varied with learning in educational facilities and parents' recognition toward computer-assisted education. These are resulted from parents' different recognition toward computer-assisted education when they select an educational facility for early childhood.

  • Sedation or general anesthesia is often required to offer dental treatment to patients with special needs. However, patients with ASA classification of III or higher are not indicated for moderate sedation and might be exposed to danger when treated at outpatient dental clinic. For this reason, it is recommended to treat those patients under general anesthesia. The dental team can supervise and monitor the whole procedures during treatment with an appropriately equipped facility. This case report describes the dental treatment of a 7-year-old girl with multiple disabilities. Preoperative evaluation including medical consultation was carried out thoroughly and dental treatment was performed under general anesthesia safely.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate that which Goon office buildings were reused from existing buildings and to identify remodeling and extension ways of the reused to match Goon's administration work. This study used literature research method, i.e., analysing the digital images, the annotation, and the official documents between the Japanese government-general of Korea and To(道), and articles of newspapers and journals. The reused were governmental offices of Joseon(朝鮮) dynasty, existing Goon office buildings of Korean empire government and old buildings with unknown purposes. They were remodelled and extended to match Goon's administration work. Common remodelling was making large space with desks for civil petitions and projecting an small entrance from the center of main building's facade. Common extension was constructing accessory buildings with simple wooden structure, locating them to back or side of the reused, and connecting them through external corridor. As many as 30% of 218 Goon office buildings were reused. About 57% of them were replaced as new office buildings, however the number of the new was rapidly decreased after mid 1930s.

  • A demand of public using building in rural residential area changes over times. With the changes, the function and the scale of the public using building are also changed, the building is more influences on people in rural area. However, the most of facilities have been focused on the agricultural productions, and thus the facilities of health care, culture, and daylife supporting were not enough comparing to the facilities in urban area. This study surveys the facility and grasps the current status and problem of 37 rural residential area. In addition, three different revitalizing plans of public using building as a current availability and plan for use are suggested. A new community center where is expected that the public usage is increased should be managed intensively regarding an air conditioning, and waterproofing work, while an old community center and the warehouse where are expected that the public usage is decreased, but have locational advantage should be used as a rural life experience facilities and a accommodations with remodeling unless the safety matter A parking lots are considered that the availability is gradually increased and needed for public while it is difficult to get a new available site because of the ownership. Therefore, it is national decision to secure the site by removing the discarded facilities.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the infection rate of gastro-intestinal tract parasites on acquired laboratory nonhuman primates, Vervet monkey, Cynomolgus monkey, and Rhesus monkey acquired from Japan and China. These monkeys have been acclimating at an individual housing condition after our legal quarantine period. We examined 133 fecal samples to investigate parasitic infection using direct smear and formalin-ether-sedimentation technique. As a result, total parasitic infection rate was 33.8% (n = 45/133) for all monkeys. Two species of macaques, cynomolgus and rhesus, were infected with Trichuris trichiura (4), Giardia lamblia (4) and Balantidium coli (41). Vervet monkeys, which had been controlled by individual housing system for a long time, were clear for parasitic infection. The protozoan, Balantidium coli was one of the most frequently detected in these monkey colonies. Double infection was noted in only 4 monkeys and involved with Trichuris trichiura and Balantidium coli. Serious clinical symptoms were not observed in the most of the infected monkeys, but the monkeys infected by Giardia lamblia showed intermittent or chronic watery diarrhea. Consequently, the prophylactic anthelmintic treatment and periodic monitoring are essential to preserve the SPF colonies in the laboratory facility.

  • The Korean society is recently becoming the aging society at an unprecedentedly rapid speed. Following the increase of the older population, their needs for special care is also rocketing. However, due to the increase of working women, nuclear-families, and old persons living alone, new facilities for the elderly such as nursing home are urgently needed. Thus, many nursing homes for the elderly are also rapidly providing. It is needed to examine if such nursing homes are properly designed for the dependent elderly to live. This study was carried out by the field observation using a checking sheet with measuring and taking photograph. The subjects were 12 nursing homes which gave positive responses for walking through their facilities. The items for observing and measuring were made based on the regulation on improving the facilities for the disabled, the elderly, and the pregnant. Whether each item fits the regulation or not was examined. The 9 areas in each nursing home were examined : entrance, hallway and corridor, stair, elevator, ramp, bed room, shower and locker room, bathroom, and rest room. It was founded that many accessible-related items were met. However, many supportive-related items such as ones for the visual disabled, and many supportive-related and accessible-related ones for bathroom, shower room, and restroom were unmet. In the process of this research, it was founded that the tool for evaluating the design of nursing home in terms of universal design should be developed.

  • This study was carried out to investigate awareness and attitude of monitors in 206 small sized industries in Seoul and Kyeonggi area toward the occupational health programs using a specially prepared questionnaire. The industries had been running Government-Funded Subsidiary Program since 1998. The questionnaire was designed to be self-administered by respondents. Data were collected for two months from November to December, 1998. Major results are as follows: 1. Between two groups of industries, there were no significant differences in classification, scale, methods of production, existence of trade union, but in type of working pattern and facility ownership there were significant differences. 2. Between two groups of monitors, there were no significant differences in gender, age, marital status, rank, years of education, but in duration of working there was a significant difference. 3. In awareness and attitude of monitors toward their activities and occupational health programs, there was no significant difference by groups of industries, but a significant difference by type and scale of industry, gender, age, years of education 4. It was found that newly subsidized industries were more necessary to provide education programs on occupational health than old industries, and there was a significant difference between two groups of industries in the contents of education needed. In conclusion, it is desirable that the government should develop specific training programs for monitors on occupational health to provide them practical knowledge and specific skills which monitors can apply to their specific situation, and implement the training programs and continue Government-Funded Subsidiary Program for years until small scale industries would have been able to develop and keep their own health management system spontaneously.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cooking and art activities on cognitive function and depression of dementia patients. Methods: The study was carried out on 34 dementia patients (experimental group: 17 persons, control group: 17 persons) at 65 years old or more who correspond to a total MMSE-M, MMSE-K point between 15 and 23 points instituted in a specialized nursing facility in Busan from November 30, 2007 to February 20, 2008. The study used a nonequivalent pretest-posttest design. In previous survey, the study measured points of general characteristics, cognitive function and melancholy. To the experimental group, cooking art activities were carried out for 90 minutes every time and once every week for 12 weeks. Results: Analysis on data was performed using SPSS/WIN 14.0. In addition $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and t-test were used for testing of homogeneity and ANOVA was performed for testing of hypothesis. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Hypothesis 1 that 'The experimental group with cooking art activities will show a higher point of cognitive function than the control group without cooking art activities' was supported (F=65.497, p<0.001). 2. Hypothesis 2 that 'The experimental group with cooking art activities will show a lower point of melancholy than the control group without cooking art activities' was supported. (F=27.463, p<0.001) Conclusions: From the above results, cooking art activities showed a significant difference in the increase in cognitive function and reduction in melancholy of dementia patients.

  • Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has been used extensively in the diagnosis of metastatic malignancies. However, metastatic soft tissue sarcomas are often overlooked, primarily due to the low frequency with/ which they occur. Here, we report a rare case of metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma in both cervical lymph nodes, which was detected by FNAC. A 45-year-old woman presented with anosmia, postnasal drip, and sneezing, symptoms which had persisted for 1 month. The patient was found to have a tumorous lesion at the upper portion of the mid-turbinate, with multiple enlarged cervical lymph nodes, and this lesion was examined closely at our facility. FNA cytology smears obtained from both cervical lymph nodes revealed a high degree of cellularity, and displayed cohesive clusters with gland-like spaces, as well as single isolated cells with abundant karyorrhectic debris. The tumor cells exhibited round to oval nuclei containing fine chromatin, occasional small nucleoli, and scanty cytoplasm, or a total lack of cytoplasm. Some of the tumor cells were arranged in multinucleated forms and abundant dense eosinophilic cytoplasms, reminiscent of a rhabdomyoblast. The histological findings on the lymph nodes revealed an outstanding sinusoidal infiltration and a prominent alveolar growth pattern, interspersed with occasional typical rhabdomyoblasts. The immunohistochemical results [desmin (+), myoglobin (+), myogenin (+), pan CK (-), synaptophysin (-), neuron specific enolase (-)] supported a confirmative diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is a representative sarcoma, which typically manifests with nodal metastasis and carcinoma-like clustering. The cytopathologist should remain alert upon encountering unusual morphology, so that the possibility of this condition, although somewhat remote, should not be dismissed or overlooked.

  • In the last five years, 36 people died and 79 were wounded because of carbon monoxide poisoning accident. A CO poisoning accident is higher than any other gas accident in the rate of deaths/incidents. Most of these CO poisoning accidents were caused by defective exhaust tube in the old gas boiler and multi-use facility. In this study, the spread mechanism of CO gas released from leakage hole of exhaust tube was analyzed by concentration measuring test. A CO gas leaked form exhaust tube in a building was the highest concentrated near the ceiling. CO alarm sets installation test confirmed that the alarm sets near the ceiling operated first, and the bottom and middle sets operated after $30{\sim}40$ minutes. Through these experiments, the reasonable installation location of CO alarm was made certain and suggested.
