Insulated oil degradation produces charged by-products, such as acids and hydro-peroxides, which tend to reduce the insulating properties of the oil. In this study, UV-vis spectroscopy measurement technology is developed and experimentally compared with other measurement methods, such as the titration method and IR spectroscopy, to validate its ability to monitor the degradation of electrical insulating paper. The degradation characteristics of the insulating paper are appropriately represented through various types of measurement methods, such as the Tan (delta) method, $CO_2$ gas production measurement, the titration method, and IR spectroscopy. The results are demonstrated to be well comparable to a change in the fluorescence emission ratio (FER), which is defined as the shift in fluorescence intensity in the measured wavelength range, and also to the chromatic ratio, which is defined as a color shift to longer wavelength ranges. The results also show that, by using UV-vis spectroscopy, it is possible to detect the degradation of the insulating paper. This study suggests that UV-vis spectroscopy can be applied as an alternative to high-performance liquid chromatography, which is the internationally recognized measurement technology for cellulose paper degradation. The FER detector is also verified to be useful as an effective condition-monitoring device for power transformers.
Vegetable oils are desirable inexpensive feedstocks for various bioproducts. The content of unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic acids are 22% and 55% for soybean oil, 26% and 60% for corn oil, and 61% and 21% for canola oil, respectively. Keto and hydroxy fatty acids are useful industrial chemicals, used in plasticizer, surfactant, lubricant and detergent formulations because of their special chemical properties such as higher viscosity and reactivity compared with other fatty acids. In this study, a microbial isolate, Flavobacterium sp. strain DS5 (NRRL B-14859), was used to convert oleic acid to 10-ketostearic acid (10-KSA) via 10-hydroxystearic acid (10-HSA). Two bioconversion products, 10-KSA and 10-HSA, were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed using gas chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and $^1H-$ and $^{13}C$-nuclear magnetic resonance. The maximum production of 10-KSA and 10-HSA in flask cultures were 3.4 g/L and 0.5 g/L, respectively. The optimum concentrations of glucose and yeast extract, addition time and volume of oleic acid for 10-KSA production were less than 20 g/L, more than 5 g/L, 18 hand 0.3 ml/50 ml, respectively.

The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of low purity methanol (LPM) on performance and smoke emission characteristics by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, water-cooled, direct injection diesel engine with EGR system. The experiments are performed by the change of engine load in the engine load ranges of 25 to 100% with an interval of 25% under the constant engine speed of 2000 rpm. The LPM in the fuel blends contained 24.88% water by volume. The blended fuel ratios of diesel oil to LPM are maintained at 100/0, 95/5, 90/10 and 85/15% on the volume basis. In this paper, EGR rates are varied in three conditions of 0, 12.8 and 16.5%. The result shows that the brake power of a blended fuel with 15% LPM is reduced more 11.1% than that of the neat diesel oil at the full load with the EGR rate of 16.5%. At this condition, also, the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) is increased by 3.2%, the exhaust gas temperature is decreased by 10.7%, the smoke opacity is decreased by 18.7% and the brake thermal efficiency is increased by 7.3%. The sharp reduction of smoke opacity for a blended fuel with the LPM content of 15% at the full load without EGR system is observed by 68.4% compared with that of the neat diesel oil due to the high oxygen content of LPM.

This study was to compare the fatty acid composition of mare milk with cow milk in liquid, powder, cream and oil by gas-liquid chromatography. This study was to compare the fatty acid composition of mare milk with cow milk in liquid, powder, cream and oil by gas-liquid chromatography. These results showed that overall fatty acid concentration of mare milk was much higher than that of cow milk especially linoleic acid(C18:2) and linolenic acid(C18:3). The concentrations of oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid of mare milk were higher than those of cow milk in liquid, powder, cream and oil.
The demand for fuel and energy resources continues to grow due to increased consumption and emerging economies in all parts of the world. With this increase in demand, crude oil prices in the international market has jumped dramatically. Global warming, which is a consequence of increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has become scientific, social, and political concerns. To cope with global warming and energy crisis, cost-competitive biofuels are urgently needed. In addition, development of an infrastructure, which supplies energy stably and diversifies energy resources, as well as new cost-saving technologies should be developed to reduce the costs of producing biofuels. Due to high oleic acid content, rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is currently the potential feedstock for biodiesel production in temperate zone region and the production and use of rapeseed oil is already commercialized in Europe. In Korea double-cropping (rice and rapeseed) became more prevalent because it reduces competitions from land constraints. Production of rapeseed as a biodiesel feedstock may reduce the influence of rising oil prices and nation's dependence on imported petroleum and increase job opportunities and farm incomes.

Hot air heater with light oil combustion is the most common heater for greenhouse heating in the winter season in Korea. However, since the heat efficiency of the heater is about 80%, considerable unused heat in the form of exhaust gas heat discharges to atmosphere. In order to capture this exhaust gas heat a heat recovery system for plant bed heating in the greenhouse was built and tested in the hot air heating system of greenhouse. The system consists of a heat exchanger made of copper pipes, ${\phi}\;12.7{\times}0.7t$ located inside the rectangular column of $330{\times}330{\times}900mm$, a water circulation pump, circulation plastic pipe and a water tame The total heat exchanger area is $1.5m^2$, calculated considering the heat exchange amount between flue gas and water circulated in the copper pipes. The system was attached to the exhaust gas path. The heat recovery system was designed as to even recapture the latent heat of flue gas when exposing to low temperature water in the heat exchanger. According to performance test it can recover 45,200 to 51,000kJ/hr depending on the water circulation rates of 330 to $690{\ell}$/hr from the waste heat discharged. The exhaust gas temperature left from the heat exchanger dropped to $100^{circ}C$ from $270^{circ}C$ by the heat exchange between the water and the flue gas, while water gained the difference and temperature increased to $38^{circ}C$ from $21^{circ}C$ at the water flow rate of $690{\ell}$/hr. And, the condensed water amount varies from 16 to $43m{\ell}$ at the same water circulation rates. This condensing heat recovery system can reduce boiler fuel consumption amount in a day by 34% according to the feasibility study of the actual mimitomato greenhouse. No combustion load was observed in the hot air heater.

The traditional feedstock for dimethyl ether (DME) has been natural gas obtained by pipeline from a nearby natural gas or oil field. This report focuses on other feedstock: Coal bed methane (CBM). The resource availability and suitability of CBM for DME manufacturing have been investigated. CBM in a short time has become an important industry, providing an abundant clean-burning fuel and also suggesting as a feedstock for gas industry. The use of CBM will have very little impact on the KOGAS' DME process design and economics up to 50 vol% of $CO_2$ in the CBM source. Many of the CBM sources in Asia are high in $CO_2$, but pose no difficulties for the KOGAS' DME plant. Since tri-reformer requires substantial $CO_2$ in its feed, no $CO_2$ removal from the CBM feed is needed. The $CO_2$ in the CBM means that less $CO_2$ needs to be recycled from the downstream in the process.
For treating a huge amount of plastic waste with the environment problem, pyrolysis of plastic waste into alternative fuel oil is one or important issue in recycling methods. This study was introduced over the trend or generation of plastic waste, in Korea pyrolysis technology in domestic and foreign countries, basic technology in pyrolysis process and new technology of pyrolysis developed in KIER (Korea Institute of Energy research). The characteristics of process developed in KIER are the continuous loading treatment or mixed plastic waste with an automatic control system, the minimization of wax production by circulation pyrolysis system in non-catalytic reactor, the reuse of gas produced and the oil recovery from sludge generated in pyrolysis plant, which have greatly the advantage economically and environmetally. The experiment result data in 300 ton/yr pilot plant showed about $81\;wt\%$ liquid yield for 3 days continuous reaction time, and also the boiling point distribution of light oil (LO) and heavy oil (HO) produced in distillation tower was a little higher than that of commercial gasoline and diesel, respectively.

The growing need for energy (oil and gas) has led to offshore resource development. As a reflection of this trend, there have been many advances in the technologies used for the subsea production systems that make offshore resource development possible. As the technologies for subsea production systems continue to grow, a subsea X-mas tree, the core equipment in a subsea production system, is required to have more functions than before. Generally, these complex functions lead to a change in its configuration. Therefore, this paper investigates a change in a subsea X-mas tree system to enhance system understanding, and conducts a leakage path analysis of a subsea X-mas tree system. Utilizing the recent configuration of the subsea X-mas tree, an identification of the leakage path and a quantitative risk analysis for the leakage using an FTA (fault tree analysis) are conducted.
