  • A study on the new active circulation type oil-water separation system including buoyancy type guidance system was carried out in this paper. Oil-water separation system is composed of several oil separation steps. Buoy type oil guiding system was developed based on the difference of buoyance of water and oil. The design speed of this vessel is 25 knots.

  • A study on the new active circulation type oil-water separation system including buoyancy type guidance system was carried out in this paper. Newly developed oil-water separation system is composed of several oil separation steps. In the beginning of these steps, buoy type separation system would be used. Buoy type oil guiding system was developed based on the difference of density of water and oil.

Effect of Replacing Pork Fat with Vegetable Oils on Quality Properties of Emulsion-type Pork Sausages

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the quality properties of emulsion-type pork sausages when pork fat is replaced with vegetable oil mixtures during processing. Pork sausages were processed under six treatment conditions: T1 (20% pork fat), T2 (10% pork fat + 2% grape seed oil + 4% olive oil + 4% canola oil), T3 (4% grape seed oil + 16% canola oil), T4 (4% grape seed oil + 4% olive oil + 12% canola oil), T5 (4% grape seed oil + 8% olive oil + 8% canola oil), and T6 (4% grape seed oil + 12% olive oil + 4% canola oil). Proximate analysis showed significant (p<0.05) differences in the moisture, protein, and fat content among the emulsion-type pork sausages. Furthermore, replacement with vegetable oil mixtures significantly decreased the ash content (p<0.05), increased water-holding capacity in emulsion-type pork sausages. Also, cholesterol content in T6 was significantly lower than T2 (p<0.05). In the texture profile analysis, hardness and chewiness of emulsion-type pork sausages were significantly (p<0.05) decreased by vegetable oil mixtures replacement. On the contrary, cohesiveness and springiness in the T4 group were similar to those of group T1. The unsaturated fatty acid content in emulsion-type pork sausages was increased by vegetable oil mixtures replacement. Replacement of pork fat with mixed vegetable oils had no negative effects on the quality properties of emulsion-type pork sausages, and due to its reduced saturated fatty acid composition, the product had the quality characteristics of the healthy meat products desired by consumers.

  • Oil spills caused by the accidents have been occurred from house and factory waste, grounded tanker, the rupture of storage tank and oil pipelines, the deterioration of various industrial facilities, etc. Many oil spills result in contamination of shorelines and workplace. Fire and explosion may happen from these spills. There are several technologies used for clean-up application, which include use of oil dispersing agents, absorbents, solidifiers, booms and skimmers by physical, chemical, and biological methods. Methods for oil spill clean-up operation are classified into the absorption type, gel type and self-swelling type. Porous materials with oil absorptive properties are classified into micropore, mesopore, and macropore depending on their pore sizes. Recently, new porous materials with smaller size have been developed, but the selective oil absorption in water-in-oil interface demonstrates the macro pore size. In this study oil absorption effects were evaluated using the organic porous materials with a complex function of gel type and swelling type. Samples were subjected to analysis by FT-IR spectroscopy and were characterized in terms of gel formation and morphologies. Oil sorption capacity, pressure retention force and gel strength were also measured. From these results, the physicochemical reactivity before and after gelation was verified and the industrial applications of clean-up operation were suggested.

Parametric Study on the Design of Turbocharger Journal Bearing (터보챠져 저어널베어링의 설계에 관한 매개변수 연구)

  • Turbocharger bearings are under the circumstance of high temperature, moreover rotated at high speed. It is necessary to be designed to overcome the high temperature. So the type of oil inlet port, the inlet oil temperature and the sort of engine oil should be designed, controlled and selected carefully in order to reduce the bearing inside temperature. Therefore, in this study, the effects of the type of inlet oil port, inlet temperature and the sort of engine oil on the performance of a turbocharger bearing are to be investigated. It is found that the type of oil inlet ports, the control of inlet oil temperature and the selection of engine oil type play important roles in determining the temperature and pressure, then the friction and load of a turbocharger journal bearing at high speed operation.

A Study of Salmon Oil Type Analysis by FT-IR and Carbon Isotopes Ratio (FT-IR과 탄소동위원소 분석을 통한 연어유의 구분에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzes the structure types of salmon oil to evaluate the purity of salmon oil products based on the 38 different types of imported salmon oil products distributed in the Republic of Korea. The major types of omega-3 foods in the salmon oil are ethyl ester (EE) and triglyceride (TG). If the salmon oil contained potential contaminants and was processed in order to remove it, EE type omega-3 fatty acids are found in concentration. This provides a good guide in assessing if products were made with EE type ingredients or re-esterified contaminated materials. The results of the FT-IR analysis showed significant difference in the C=O, C-O band positions in TG and EE. There were 19 TG type products and 19 EE type products. The analysis of carbon isotope ratio was performed on the types of TG and EE. There were different properties in the 19 TG type products. In one product, the carbon isotope ratio was -25.15 and the other 18 products showed -22.15~-23.96. The carbon isotope ratio of all 19 EE type products showed -21.91~-23.74. The results of the TLC analysis showed similar results with FR-IR. The re-esterified TG form was not detected in the TG type products, confirming that the TG type products contained natural salmon oil. This study aimed to provide the basic material in classifying the types of natural salmon oil and re-esterified salmon oil, by analyzing the pattern and proportion of FT-IR spectrum, carbon isotope ratio, and TLC.

  • In the make-up product, Eye-shadow products have several purposes of enhancing product quality such as providing the beauty (variation of shape, clean appearance), feeling, continuity and adhesion. In this paper, newly developed wet type back injection press process is introduced so as to increase higher value products which providing various the beauty. The solvent takes an essential role to provide the fluidity of the powder bulk during the pressed-process of wet type pressed product. In this study, the effect of solvent in the oil binder was investigated, And the higher quality condition of the wet type pressed product was built to apply cosmetic preparation. Firstly, the system was designed powder phase as non treated pigment. The oil binder phase is categorized as hydrocarbons(Mineral oil, Squalane), Silicones(Methicone, Dimethicone ), esters (Octyldodecanol, Octyl Dodecyl Myristate). The solvent phase used was C 7-8 isoparaffin and Isopropyl Alcohol. The interaction of oil binder and solvent is investigated by measuring mass of final oil binder and the each solubility parameter. It was found that the higher the solubility the higher the degree of change in the final composition of the oil binder. In order to maintain the quality of the final product, the solvent used in pressed-process should be hydrophobic with oil binder.

Oil Cooler Design Automation on the Cooling of Machine Tool Cutting Oil (공작기계 절삭유 냉각용 오일쿨러 설계 자동화)

  • The automatic design of shell & tube type oil cooler can be used in real industrial environments. Since the automatic design system is intended to be used in small companies, it is designed to be operated well under environments of CAD package in the personal computer. It has adopted GUI in design system, and has employed DCl language. Design parameters to be considered in the design stage of shell and tube type oil cooler are type of oil cooler, outer diameter, thickness, length of tube, tube arrangement, tube pitch, flow rate, inlet and outlet temperature, physical properties, premissive pressure loss on both sides, type of baffle plate, baffle plate cutting ratio, clearance between baffle plate outer diameter and shell inner diameter and clearance between baffle plate holes. As a result, the automatic design system of shell & tube type oil cooler is constructed by the environment of CAD software using LISP. We have built database of design data for various kinds of shell & tube type oil coolers. The automatic design system have been assessed and compared with existing specification of design. Good agreement with Handbook of heat exchanger and design dta of real industrial environments has been found.

  • Crude oil carriers or product oil carriers are confronted with sea pollution due to hull damage from various accidents. To reduce the oil spillage of tankers, IMO(International Maritime Organization) and OPA 90(Oil Pollution Act 1990) adopted the hull structures of double skin type. In this study, oil spillage test of the double skin tanker with 1/100 scaled model was carried out under damaged condition due to collision and grounding accidents. A new structural type of oil tanker was also tested with pipe and valve system arranged in double side and single bottom hulls. Their results were compared with that of conventional type double hull on the view point of ship safety and oil spillage.

An experimental study on the recovery of diesel oil using a belt type skimmer (벨트식 유회수기를 사용한 디젤유 회수에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Removal of spilled oil over the sea and the river has become one of the urgent problem in these days. Removing oil using mechanical devices are recommended because chemical dispersion can cause the secondary contamination in the environment. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of working conditions of a belt type skimmer on the rate of recovery for the spilled oil. The oil chosen for the present experiment was diesel oil. Three different situations, namely, upward, downward, up-and-downward pickup have been investigated for various contact angles, belt speeds and oil thicknesses. The results show that the rate of oil recovery for the case of downward pickup with a contact angle of 45.deg. shows the highest among all the conditions. For the removal of spilled diesel oil the optimal belt speed can be found as the critical value to reach the saturated pickup rate for a given oil thickness. The recovery rate of bunker C oil shows 4-6 times higher than that for diesel oil. And the optimal belt speed for bunker C oil can be found less than that for diesel oil for the same slick thickness.
