  • Whine noise in engine oil pump system was issued in developing an engine. Generally, A noise of engine oil pump largely are classified two cases. The first one is a gearing noise caused by relative motion of inner rotor and outer rotor. The other is fluid pulsation noise caused by oil pressure fluctuation. The aim of the paper is to identify a noise mechanism in engine oil pump and improve its Noise. Also, it suggests to the guide line on the design of oil pump.

  • An efficiency of a refrigeration cycle and a reliability of a compressor can be reduced if a refrigerant including excessive lubricating oil is exhausted from a rotary compressor. Thus, the oil behavior inside the compressor should be analyzed to improve the efficiency. A tested rotary compressor has been manufactured with visualization windows at upper parts in this study to investigate the oil behavior using developed visualization techniques. Discharge pipe with level gage has been visualized to investigate discharged oil amount. The oil behaviors inside the compressor and discharging pipe at various operating conditions have been analyzed. The results of the visualization for the discharging pipe have been compared with those of the upper part to confirm the accuracy.

  • Simulation model for diffusion of oil spill is developed. The model can perform real time simulation in the case of oil spill accident in the ocean. The model consists of three dimensional ocean circulation model and model for diffusion of oil spill. Real time flow fields which are used in the calculation of advection of oil spill are obtained in the three dimensional ocean circulation model. The model for diffusion of oil spill includes the evaporation dissolution emulsification and downward diffusion. For the verification of the model it is applied to the oil spill from the accident of Sea Prince. The results shows good agreement.

  • The influence of aerated oil on high-speed journal bearing is examined by classical thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory coupled with analytical models for viscosity and density of aerated oil in fluid-film bearing. Convection to the walls, mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil, and some degree of journal misalignment are considered. The considered Parameters for the study of bubbly lubrication are oil aeration level, air bubble size, shaft misalignment and shaft speed. The results show that deliberate oil aeration can more clearly bring on the increasing load capacity under high-speed operation of plain journal hearing than previous normal speed operation. And the load capacity may be increased more by oil aeration under the conditions of shaft misalignment and the increasing speed.

  • The heat transfer performance of heating medium oil fluidized bed heat exchanger was measured. The operation variables were air flow rate, air inlet temperature, moisture content, water flow rate and water inlet temperature. The outside heat transfer coefficient was determined from the heat exchanger experiment and its experimental correlation was determined as a function of air velocity and viscosity of heating medium oil. Effect of viscosity was well agreed with the previous studies. Errors of the correlation equation was less than about 10% for outside heat transfer coefficient developed in this study when compared with the measured value. Hot water with the temperature greater than $77^{\circ}C$ could be produced by using the heating medium oil fluidized bed heat exchanger.

Inhibitory Effect of Lemon Oil on Apoptosis in Astrocytes (신경교(神經膠) 성상세포(星狀細胞)에서 레몬오일에 의한 세포자멸사(細胞自滅死)의 억제효과(抑制效果))

  • We investigated the effects of lemon pure essential oils on the heat shock-induced apoptosis in human astrocyte cell line CCF-STTG1. In previous studies, hear shock has been reported to induce the apoptosis or programmed cell death through the activation of caspase-3. Treatment of CCF-STTG1 cells with heat shock markedly induced apoptotic cell death as determined by flow cytometry. Interestingly, pretreatment of CCF-STTG1 cells with lemon pure essential oils inhibited the heat shock-induced apoptosis. Lemon also inhibited the heat shock-induced apoptosis in primary cultured rat astrocytes. To determine whether lemon inhibits the heat shock-induced activation of these apoptotic proteases, activation of CPP32 was assessed by Western blotting. Consistent with flow cytometry, DNA fragmentation and giemsa staining, heat shock-induced activation of CPP32 was blocked by lemon pure essential oil. PARP, cysteine protease substrates were fragmented as a consequence of apoptosis by heat shock. Lemon oil inhibited the PARP fragmentation. This essential oil also inhibited the heat shock-induced activation of caspase-3. These results suggest that lemon pure essential oils may modulate the apoptosis through the activation of the ICE-like caspases.

  • This experiment was conducted to study the effects of blood-mixed and heat-treated protein feeds on protein degradation in the rumen, flow of protein to the abomasums and availability of undegraded protein in the intestine of sheep in a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. Soybean oil meal, rapeseed meal, and whole soybean were mixed with fresh swine blood and dried at $140^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Proportionate disappearance of apparently digested OM in the postrumen for the blood and heat treated protein group was ranged from 43.2 to 50.5% as compared with 28.0% for the unheated soybean oil meal diet. The treated protein supplements were resulted in greater total N and NAN flow passing at the abomasums than untreated soybean oil meal diet was fed. The quantities of undegraded feed N passing at the abomasums for the treated protein diets was approximately twice as high as that of the untreated soybean oil meal diet and the estimated amount of undegraded N of the protein supplement itself was 79.1 to 84.2% as compared with 15% of soybean oil meal.

  • Automatic power transmission systems consisted of a torque converter and several planetary gear sets, clutches and brakes are controlled by a hydraulic shift control circuit and an electronic transmission control unit. The hydraulic circuit serves for the operation of the torque converter and lubrication oil supply of the transmission system as well as for the actuation of clutches for the automatic gear shift. The complicated hydraulic control circuit constructed by many spools, solenoids, orifices and flow passages are integrated into one small valve block and it is powered by one hydraulic pump. In this paper, a test equipment was developed to measure the oil consumption of each component at various wide operating conditions. Test data about 730 sets acquired from five test items are analyzed and discussed on the oil capacity of the circuit.

  • A gerotor pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications, which are highly accepted by designers. Especially the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. However, related industries do not have necessary technology to design and optimize the pump and paid royalties of rotor profile on an advanced country. Also, gerotor pumps with unsettled design parameters have not been sufficiently analyzed from a theoretical view of design. Therefore, it is still very difficult for the pump designer and manufacturer to decide the specifications for the required gerotor pump by users. In this study, the design optimization has been carried out to determine the design parameters that maximize the specific flow rate and minimize the flow rate irregularity. Theoretical analyses and optimal design of the gerotor oil pump have been performed by mathematical base, numerical method and knowledge of kinematics. An automated design system of the tooth profile has been developed through Auto LISP language and CAD method considering various design parameters. Finally, an optimally designed model for a general type of a gerotor pump has been generated and experimentally verified for the pump performances.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate adiabatic wall temperature and heat transfer coefficient around on a module with longitudinal fin heat sink cooled by forced air flow. In the first method, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and input power(3-5W) was varied after a heated module were placed on an adiabatic floor($320{\times}550{\times}1mm^{3}$). An adiabatic wall temperature was determinated to use liquid crystal film(LCF). In the second method to determinate heat transfer coefficient, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and the heat flux of rubber heater($0.031-0.062\;W/cm^{2}$) was varied after an adiabatic module was placed on rubber heater covering up an adiabatic floor. In addition, surface oil-film visualization were performed to characterize the macroscopic flow-field around a module.
