Comparative Identification of Oil Spills by Gas Chromatography Fingerprinting (海上 流出油 識別法에 關한 硏究)

  • A gas chromatographic oil fingerprinting method is a technique used for comparative source identification of spilled oil. The hydrocarbon and sulfur compound analysis by gas chromatography are generally used for analyzing oils. However, due to the complexity of oils, another technique is also needed for comparative identification. In this study, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contained in crude oil and heavy fuel oil are analyzed by gas chromatography. They are relatively unaffected by weathering condition because they are stable. The oil fingerprinting of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by GC seems to be a reliable technique for analyzing oils in identification of sources and kinds of oils.

Thermal Destruction of Waste Insulating Oil Containing PCBs under High Temperature and Pressurized Conditions

  • This experimental study was performed to obtain thermal energy from the combustion of synthetic gas, produced by the pyrolysis of insulating oil containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in a high temperature and high pressure reactor. The average synthetic gas generated was $59.67Am^3/hr$ via the steady state gasification of insulating oil waste (20 kg/hr) with average concentrations (standard deviation) of $CO_2$, CO, and $H_2$ in the synthetic gas of $38.63{\pm}3.11%$, $35.18{\pm}1.93%$, and $28.42{\pm}1.68%$, respectively. The concentrations of the PCBs in the transformer insulating oil and synthetic gas after its gasification, and the concentrations of the dioxins that could be produced from the incomplete degradation of PCBs were measured. It was revealed that the PCBs in the insulating oil were composed of the series from tetrachlorobiphenyl to octachlorobiphenyl. However, only the #49, #44, #52, and #47/75/48 congeners were detected from the synthetic gas after gasification of the insulating oil and in the flue gas from the combustor. In conclusion, the experimental conditions suggested in this study were very useful for the appropriate treatment of insulating oil containing PCBs. Also, fuel gas containing CO and $H_2$ can be obtained from the pyrolysis of insulating oil containing PCBs.

  • An objective method for measuring rancidity in soybean oil was developed based on the volatile contents obtained by headspace gas chromatographic analysis. Apparatus for headspace volatile cold trapping-thermal desorption was described, designed to collect and analyze volatiles of soybean oil. Samples of commercially processed soybean oil were stored under controlled condition and then evaluated for flavor by a eight member trained panel and for volatile contents by headspace gas chromatographic analysis. Twenty-three GC peaks were identified on the basis of relative retention time of reference compounds and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The volatile compounds identified were autoxidation products of principal unsaturated fatty acids of soybean oil. The simple linear regressions of flavor score with the pentanal or hexanal contents in aged soybean oil gave correlation coefficient of 0.990 and 0.994. respectively. Pentanal and hexanal contents could be used as a potentially useful index for predicting flavor scores of soybean oil.

  • The effect of ultrasonication on PTFE and its composites with zeolite and fluoroplast F-4NTD-2 was studied. Ultrasonication was found to cause changes in the supramolecular structure, and consequently, the tensile strength, relative elongation, and mass wear rate. Changes in the topology of the materials following ultrasonication were investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The optimum enhancement of the desired properties was found in the PTFE composite containing 2% activated zeolite.

  • In oil-filled equipment such as transformers, partial discharge or local overheating will precede a final shutdown. Accompanied with such problems is a decomposition of insulating material into gases, which are dissolved into the transformer oil. The gases dissolved in oil can be separated with some membranes based on the differences in permeability of membranes to different gases.   • The development of Internet technology can affect firm value through the use of social media by business people. Nowadays, social media affect businesses of all sizes in several different ways. Despite the various benefits obtained by using social media, research at the organizational level and its impact on business performance have not grown as fast as desired. This research aims to examine the effect of social media on oil and gas firms' value. The research sample consists of 9 oil and gas firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange 2013-2018. Social media proxies are firms' social media, other social media mentions, and social media sentiment. Firm value is measured by the market value to assets ratio. Data analysis uses a random-effect regression test. Based on the analysis, the social media account of a firm has a positive effect on firm value. It indicates that social media give advantages for oil and gas firms to give a signal of business prospect, make use of opportunities related to industry alliances, recruit employees globally, and c. On the other hand, the positive sentiment on social media has no effect on oil and gas firms' value.

  • The combustion behavior of heavy oil and its emulsion with water was evaluated. The concentration of $SO_x$ in the combustion gas of emulsion oil was reduced to 57% with respect to that of the combustion gas from neat heavy oil. Also, the concentration of $NO_x$ in the combustion gas of emulsion oil was reduced to 67% with respect to that of the combustion gas of neat heavy oil. These reductions of $SO_x$ in the combustion gas of emulsion oil seems to be due to the reaction with salts included in surfactant of emulsion oil. Also, the combustion efficiency of emulsion oil is evaluated to be about 6% higher than that of neat heavy oil.

  • Recently orders of project in the field of oil & gas plant have been increased due to raising oil prices and consumptions. Domestic oil & gas companies are expanding into the Middle East area and all over the world. In the field of oil & gas plant, it is important to manage a technical control and a license that is occurred when developing the manufacturing processes and technologies. Because the oil & gas market has a lot of executions of the oversea construction, competitions between the advanced companies is more important. Therefore, we have to adopt systematic management style for achievements of the technical competitive power and the higher position. However, domestic oil & gas plant companies have not enough competitive powers of the license and the design phase. So, they are faced with difficulties of adopting the technology which is maximizing the effect of investments and scheduling a long-range plan. To achieve the technology management and the competitive power, this study proposes a long-range plan through the analysis of execution methods for technology management.

  • This study aims at precise control of oil outlet temperature in the oil cooler system of machine tools for enhancement of working speed and processing accuracy. PID control logic is adopted to obtain desired oil outlet temperature of the oil cooler system with hot-gas bypass method. We showed that the gains of PID controller could be easily determined by using gain tuning methods to get the gain of PID controller without any mathematical model. We also investigated various gain tuning methods to design the gains of PID and compared each control performance for selecting the optimal tuning method on the hot gas bypass method through experiments. Moreover, we confirmed excellent control performance with proposed PI controller gain even though disturbances were abruptly added to the experimental system.
