  • Effect of Newtonian and non-Newtonian oils on minimum ol film thickness in engine journal bearing were investigated at various oil viscosities. The influence of oil viscosity and engine operating conditions on minimum oil film thickness of main bearing and con-rod bearing was examined. Minimum oil film thickness for Newtonian oils increased uniformly with kinematic viscosity. But the correlation between kinematic viscosity and minimum oil film thickness was very poor for non-Newtonian oils. According to the straight-line regression analysis for non-Newtonian oils, high temperature high shear viscosity at 1 $1{\times}10^6Sec^{-1}$, $150^{\circ}C$ increase the coefficient of determination from 0.41 to 0.77. Con-rod bearing showed better correlation between minimum oil film thickness and engine operating conditions than main bearing.

  • High internal phase emulsions are highly concentrated emulsion systems consisting of a large volume of dispersed phase above 0.74. The rheological properties of high internal phase water-in-oil emulsions were measured conducting steady shear, oscillatory shear and creep/recovery experiments. It was found that the yield stress is inversely proportional to the drop size with the exponent of values between 1 and 2. Since the oil phase contains monomeric species, microcellular foams can easily be prepared from high internal phase emulsions. In this study, the microcellular foams combining a couple of thickeners into the conventional formulation of styrene and water system were investigated to understand the effect of viscosity ratio on cell size. Cell size variation on thickener concentration could be explained by a dimensional analysis between the capillary number and the viscosity ratio. Compression properties of foam are important end use properties in many practical applications. Crush strength and Young's modulus of microcellular foams polymerized from high internal phase emulsions were measured and compared from compression tests. Of the foams tested in this study, the foam prepared from the organoclay having reactive group as an oil phase thickener showed outstanding compression properties.

  • Oil was extracted from cashew nuts. The physicochemical parameters of the oil were determined. A chromatographic assay of the oil was carried out using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. Seventeen compounds were detected: Phenol, Phenol 2-methyl-, Cyclohexene 4, 4-dimethyl-, m-Fluoro-2-diazoacetophenone 4-dimethyl-, Tetradecanoic acid, Phenol 4-octyl-, n-Hexadecanoic acid. Others are 9, 12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z, Z) - methyl ester, Hexadecanoic acid methyl ester, Methyl stearate, Dodecanoic acid methyl ester, 9, 12, 15-Octadecatrienoic acid methyl ester, 9, 12, 15-Octadecatrienoic acid (Z, Z, Z)-, Oleic acid, Octadecanoic acid, Tetracosanoic acid and 9-Octadecenoic acid methyl ester. Among the components are omega three and omega six essential free fatty acids. The rheological profiling and flow properties of cashew nut oil were determined using a Programmable Rheometer. Cashew nut oil exhibits slight dilatant behaviour at the low end of shear rate. The long chain and high molecular weight of its constituents controlled its rheology. Long-chained 9-Octadecenoic acid methyl ester, 9, 12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z, Z) - methyl ester, Tetracosanoic acid and methyl stearate, coupled with their high molecular weights are responsible for the shear thickening effect observed. Two models, Carreau-Yasuda and Ostwald-de Waele Power Law were employed to fit the rheological data. The Carreau-Yasuda model followed well the data.

  • The emulsion stability of cosmetic creams based on the water-in-oil (W/O) high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) containing water, squalane oil and cetyl dimethicone copolyol was investigated with various compositional changes, such as electrolyte concentration, oil polarity and water phase volume fraction. The rheological consistency was mainly destroyed by the coalescence of the deformed water droplets. The slope change of complex modulus versus water phase volume fraction monitored in the linear viscoelastic region could be explained with the resistance to coalescence of the deformed interfacial film of water droplets in concentrated W/O emulsions: the greater the increase of complex modulus was, the more the coalescence occurred and the less consistent the emulsions were. Emulsion stability was dependent on the addition of electrolyte to the water phase. Increasing the electrolyte concentration increased the refractive index of the water phase, and thus decreased the refractive index difference between oil and water phases. This decreased the attractive force between water droplets, which resulted in reducing the coalescence of droplets and increasing the stability of emulsions. Increasing the oil polarity tended to increase emulsion consistency, but did not show clear difference in cream hardness among the emulsions.

  • According as gradually increasing the demand for eco-friendly at the printing process, it has been progressed fairly development. Especially, the inks are used by soy oil beginning of ink industry for preventing environment, it is possible to make eco-friendly inks with vegetable ester. So it is not necessary to use petroleum-based solvents at all for preventing environment. These eco-friendly inks have a benefits they are able to use the renewable resource. But basically vegetable oils have that reduce the VOC(Volatile Organic Compound) and high viscosity, high solubility properties. So if the vegetable oils use in the ink, set off problem occur on the paper because of slow drying time. In case of vegetable ester, it has similar the molecular weight and kinetic viscosity with hydrocarbon solvent, it is able to control the power of dilution about the resin. So, it has benefit that solve the problem of the existing eco-friendly inks. In this study, different types of ester were made by six types of vegetable oils and used ester in the varnishes and inks properties are comparison with hydrocarbon solvent based ink. By considering the intrinsic properties of vegetable oil, ester used to analyze the changes in ink properties, using ester varnish is applied to study the rheology characteristics and emulsification with inks.

  • Electrorheological characteristics of a dispersed system of phosphorylated potato starch particles in silicone oil investigated via a rotational rheometer equipped with a high voltage generator is being reanalysized. Flow curves of these ER fluids both under several applied electric field strengths and with different degrees of phosphate substitution were mainly examined via three different rheological constitutive equations of Bingham model, De Kee-Turcotte model and our previously proposed CCJ model. Among these, the CCJ equation was found to fit the data of phosphorylated potato starch well.

  • A semiconducting poly(naphthalene quinone) radical (PNQR) was synthesized from Friedel-Craft acylation between naphthalene and phthalic anhydride and used as dispersing particles of a dry-base electrorheological (ER) material in silicone oil. Under an applied electric field (E), the dynamic yield stress (${\tau}_{dyn}$) of this ER fluid, obtained from a steady shear experiment with a controlled shear rate mode, was observed to increase with $E^{1.45}$ Based on this relationship, we propose a universal correlation curve for shear viscosity, which is independent of E using a scaling analysis.

  • An oil-tolerant and salt-resistant aqueous foam system was screened out as a possible lubricant to enable cold heavy oil transportation. The microstructures and viscoelasticity and effects of heavy oil, salt and temperature on the foam stability were investigated and new rheological and drainage models were established. The results indicate the foam with multilayered shells belongs to a special microcellular foam. The viscoelasticity could be neglected due to its low relaxation time. The drainage process can be divided into three stages. The foam with quality of 67.9% maintains great stability at high oil and salt concentrations and appropriate elevated temperature.
