During the process of excavation for substructures of buildings, precise and constant measurements of retaining wall displacement is crucial for construction to be complete and safe. Currently an inclinometer is used to measure displacement around the perimeter of an excavation site. The existing inclinometer system requires an instrument to be placed inside pre-bored holes for each measurement with an typical interval of two weeks. This makes it difficult to obtain continuous displacement data, especially during a critical time such as rainy season in summer. Also, the existing inclinometer is placed at certain distance away from the retaining wall system itself. Thus, exact measurement of retaining wall movement is compromised because of the distance between the retaining wall and the inclinometer. This paper presents the development of wireless inclinometer system for the displacement measurement of retaining walls by being attached directly to the retaining wall. The result of the application of the developed systems are provided with advanced ubiquitous sensor network (USN) system features. The USN technique incorporated into the system enables users to monitor movement data from wherever possible and convenient such as construction manager's office on site or any other places connected through internet. The research work presented in this paper will provide a basis to save construction time and cost by preventing safe-related unexpected delay of construction due to the failure or collapse of retaining walls.

The Multi-family Residential is one of the most famous building types for a rental property in the US. Often times it includes multiple residential buildings and some amenity facilities, including a clubhouse or leasing office, swimming pool, dog park, and garages. Since the building type is built for rental purposes, the construction planning is phased and it makes the project complicated. Detailed planning and execution are important for successful construction management. This paper provides some management practices that are applied to one of the multi-family residential construction projects in Phoenix, AZ. The Front End Planning (FEP) process performed by both owner and contractor is the first key to a successful construction project. Specifically, the early review of phased turnover strategy, grading, fire/Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, and Mechanical/ Electricity/Plumbing/Technology (MEPT) will provide absolute benefit to the project. Second, using a scheduling method to control short-term schedules and long-term can provide the ability to manage the issues with agility. Third, material delivery and procurement dominate the both project schedule and cost. With this COVID-19 circumstance, it is hard to expect the material, equipment, and labor forces to be delivered on time with the contracted price. Managing floats are more than important to managing construction productivity. Risk management should work to share the risks fairly. Lastly, turnover is directly linked with the profit of the project for both owner and contractor. The communication between the owner and contractor to re-schedule the proper turnover schedule is important for the phased construction project.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of store occupancy based on the rental characteristics of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) renting buildings across the country, and to analyze the satisfaction level after opening. Research design, data and methodology: The study conducted an empirical survey through questionnaires targeting individual business owners, corporate representatives, and executives and employees nationwide, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and other metropolitan areas and provincial cities. Results: In this study, the most important factor that SMEs consider when deciding whether to rent a commercial building or office is financial characteristics, followed by management characteristics, location characteristics, building characteristics, and facility characteristics. In addition, management characteristics were found to have the greatest impact on rental satisfaction of SMEs, followed by financial characteristics, building characteristics, and location characteristics in order. Conclusions: Since the lessor cannot immediately improve the location characteristics or building characteristics, in order to increase the rental satisfaction of small and medium-sized businesses in a relatively short period of time, it is necessary to improve managerial characteristics such as prompt civil complaint handling and clean management of the building. In addition, it is analyzed that if the factors that can reduce the burden on the tenants are found in advance and reflected in the financial characteristics, the satisfaction of the tenants can be increased.

Flexible space is an adaptable space that has been increasingly used in many office and academic buildings as it increases the use of the space available and reduces the unnecessary building area. However, the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industry lacks a formalized method that helps architects predict and update the space utilization of flexible space during the project development, as such prediction aims to maximize the use of the building space available without exceeding the target utilization policy. Consequently, current manual utilization prediction results in lower accuracy level and limits the maximized use of the flexible space, which has multiple space-use types that affect the prediction of utilization. To address this problem, we identified eight space-use type differentiators (SUTDs) based on the literature review and observations and discussed the use of them in automated space-use analysis (SUA), which can predict the utilization of flexible space via a computer program. This research builds on SUA and contributes to flexible space planning by providing a means of a more comprehensive and accurate SUA.
Jogyeongdan is an altar built by the Korean Empire within the burial grounds of Sijomyo(始祖墓), the Jeonju Lee clan, as a part of their posthumous respecting project. This site adheres to strict rules and formalities that are comparable to those of the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, with its altars and monument House demonstrating construction techniques that hold high value in architectural history. This study compares and analyzes construction-related records such as Uigwe, Statements, and Figure, along with their historical context. Through this effort, the study explores in detail the original form of Jogyeongdan at the time of its construction and subsequent transformations in later periods. Findings showed that the Figure was drawed by Chae Yongsin and was only a blueprint prior to the construction; it was modified during the actual construction process. A part of Jogyeongdan project was carried out by demolishing four government office buildings that were closed because of the Gabo Reform in order to secure wood and roof tiles, among other materials. Additionally, concluded the Jaesil was by relocated Deokryudang from Samryeyeokcham. Further, instances of distinctive terminology usage were found related to construction materials in the Jogyeongdan Uigwe, which were not used in another Uigwe. These terms were distinguished in detail according to the locations in which the materials were used.

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network within a small geographical area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, office building or group of buildings. A LAN is composed of interconnected workstations and personal computers which are each capable of accessing and sharing data and devices, such as printers, scanners and data storage devices, anywhere on the LAN. LANs are characterized by higher communication and data transfer rates and the lack of any need for leased communication lines. Communication between remote parties can be achieved through a process called Networking, involving the connection of computers, media and networking devices. When we talk about networks, we need to keep in mind three concepts, distributed processing, network criteria and network structure. The purpose of this Network is to design a Local Area Network (LAN) for a BAEC (Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission) Head Quarter and implement security measures to protect network resources and system services. To do so, we will deal with the physical and logical design of a LAN. The goal of this Network is to examine of the Local Area Network set up for a BAEC HQ and build a secure LAN system.
There is a growing concern about potential harmful effect of second-hand or environmental tobacco smoking. As a result, smoking bans in workplace become more prevalent worldwide. In Korea, workplace smoking ban policy become more restrictive in 2003 when National health enhancing law was amended. The new law requires all office buildings larger than 3,000 square meters (multi-purpose buildings larger than 2,000 square meters) should be smoke free. Therefore, a lot of indoor office became non smoking area. Previous studies in other counties often found contradicting answers for the effects of workplace smoking ban on smoking behavior. In addition, there was no study in Korea yet that examines the causal impacts of smoking ban on smoking behavior. The situation in Korea might be different from other countries. Using 2001 and 2005 Korea National Health and Nutrition surveys which are representative for population in Korea we try to examine the impacts of law change on current smoker and cigarettes smoked per day. The amended law impacted the whole country at the same time and there was a declining trend in smoking rate even before the legislation update. So, the challenge here is to tease out the true impact only. We compare indoor working occupations which are constrained by the law change with outdoor working occupations which are less impacted. Since the data has been collected before (2001) and after (2005) the law change for treated (indoor working occupations) and control (outdoor working occupations) groups we will use difference in difference method. We restrict our sample to working age (between 20 and 65) since these are the relevant population by the workplace smoking ban policy. We also restrict the sample to indoor occupations (executive or administrative and administrative support) and outdoor occupations (sales and low skilled worker) after dropping unemployed and someone working for military since it is not clear whether these occupations are treated group or control group. This classification was supported when we examined the answers for workplace smoking ban policy existing only in 2005 survey. Sixty eight percent of indoor occupations reported having an office smoking ban policy compared to forty percent of outdoor occupation answering workplace smoking ban policy. The estimated impacts on current smoker are 4.1 percentage point decline and cigarettes per day show statistically significant decline of 2.5 cigarettes per day. Taking into account consumption of average sixteen cigarettes per day among smokers it is sixteen percent decline in smoking rate which is substantial. We tested robustness using the same sample across two surveys and also using tobit model. Our results are robust against both concerns. It is possible that our measure of treated and control group have measurement error which will lead to attenuation bias. However, we are finding statistically significant impacts which might be a lower bound of the true estimates. The magnitude of our finding is not much different from previous finding of significant impacts. For cigarettes per day previous estimates varied from 1.37 to 3.9 and for current smoker it showed between 1%p and 7.8%p.

This research studied the location and the spatial composition of Pihyang-jeong zone. Pihyang-jeong is regarded as one of the five great pavilions in Chollabuk-do. Located in Taein-myeon of Jeongeup-si, Pihyang-jeong is also called as 'the number one pavilion in Honam area'. 1. There is no record regarding the first construction of Pihyang-jeong. There is only transmitting by word of mouth that the scholar Choi Chi-won had an excursion to here and composed some poetry during the age of King Heon-gang of Shilla dynasty. However, there are records that Lee Ji-gweng had expanded the humble structure in 1618, Park Sung-go repaired it in 1664 and Yoo Geun repaired it again in 1715. 2. The location of Pihyang-jeong is 'high in north and low in south' and typical 'mountain in rear and water in front'. It has Seong-hwang Mountain(189m) in the north, Hang-ga Mountain(106m) in the south, Tae Mountain(33m) in the south and an open field in the northwest. 3. The spatial composition around Pihyang-jeong is as following. Pihyang-jeong faces 'Hayeonji'(the lower side lotus pond) in the south-south-west direction. 4. The buildings around Pihyang-jeong are; Pihyang-jeong, which was the pavilion of the government official not directly in charge of government office, Hambyeok-lu in the Hayeonji and the facility for the caretaker. Pihyang-jeong is a rectangular building with double eaves and hipped-and-gabled roof. It has five rooms in the front and four rooms in the side. Hambyeok-lu had been first built in 1918 as two-storey wooden pavilion with dancheong, traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden buildings. Then it was modified into rectangular single-storey pavilion with hipped-and-gabled roof and five rooms in 1971. In 2010, it was rebuilt as a hexagonal pavilion; therefore, the present shape is completely different one from the original shape. 5. The scenic features around Pihyang-jeong are as following. There are 21 stone monuments in Pihyang-jeong zone. The fence surrounding Pihyang-jeong is a traditional Korean style crude stone fence. There are three gates in three-gates-style, each gate made with two posts and one 'matbae'(gabled) roof. Also, a stepping stone for mounting/dismounting was found in the east of Pihyang-jeong outer perimeter. 6. The water scenic feature around Pihyang-jeong is a representative case of drawing in the water from the natural pond nearby government office and building a pavilion around the water. 7. The planting around Pihyang-jeong is as following. There are Zelkova trees in the boundary perimeter. In the southern small park, there are Zelkova trees, Crape-myrtie trees, Bushy young pine trees, Pine trees, Satuki, Purple azalea and Grass field. Around Hambyeok-lu in the Ha-yeonji, Elm trees, Zelkova trees and Pine trees are growing in good condition.
Many actions against climate change have been taken to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions at home and abroad. As of 2007, the GHGs emitted from buildings accounted for about 23 % of Korea's total GHGs emission, which is the second largest GHG reduction potential following industry. In this study, we introduced Carbon Zero Building (CZB), which was constructed by the National Institute of Environmental Research to cut down GHGs from buildings in Korea, and evaluated the main applied technologies, the amount of energy load and reduced energy, and economic values for CZB to provide data that could be a basis in the future construction of this kind of carbon-neutral buildings. A total of 66 technologies were applied for this building in order to achieve carbon zero emissions. Applied technologies include 30 energy consumption reduction technologies, 18 energy efficiency technologies, and 5 eco-friendly technologies. Out of total annual energy load ($123.8kWh/m^2$), about 40% of energy load ($49kWh/m^2$) was reduced by using passive technologies such as super insulation and use of high efficiency equipments and the other 60% ($74.8kWh/m^2$) was reduced by using active technologies such as solar voltaic, solar thermal, and geothermal energy. The construction cost of CZB was 1.4 times higher than ordinary buildings. However, if active technologies are excluded, the construction cost is similar to that of ordinary buildings. It was estimated that we could save annually about 102 million won directly from energy saving and about 2.2 million won indirectly from additional saving by the reduction in GHGs and atmospheric pollutants. In terms of carbon, we could reduce 100 ton of $CO_2$ emissions per year. In our Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis, the Break Even Point (BEP) for the additional construction cost was estimated to be around 20.6 years.
The objective of this study is applied to office buildings to evaluate quantitative evaluation method about performance of double-skin at design stage to establish the basis for the purpose of evaluation performance. Select the evaluation building about design plan for applying the double-skin using the dynamic heat load analysis program the annual heating and cooling load of before and after the double-skin. Using CFD to analyze wind factor and applied ventilation for realistic results. Effects of double-skin to apply, and control techniques that can be done more realistically proposed through to set and control for shade control mode of ventilator and inside cavity wall of double-skin. Apply for the building the double-skin due to interpretation of the annual heating and cooling loads applied to interpret the quantitative effect confirmed the possibility. According to the form of a double skin was confirmed cavity environmental changes.
