Analysis of Absorption Loss by a Human Body in On-to-Off Body Communication at 2.45 GHz

  • This paper investigates the effect of absorption loss by a human body to the received signal strength with respect to on-body transmitting antenna positions in on-to-off wireless body area networks. This investigation is based on measurement results obtained from experiments performed on human bodies (male and female) using planar inverted-F antennas in an anechoic chamber. The total absorption loss by the human body is also presented through the SEMCAD-X simulations. Our investigation showed that the received signal strength becomes lower when the transmitting antenna is mounted at a specific position where more absorption loss is experienced. The statistical analyses of on-to-off body channel characteristics based on the measurement results are presented.

  • The vibration of a vehicle, which is caused by and transmitted from the engine, has significant effect on the ride comfort and the dynamic characteristics of the engine mount system have direct influence on the vibration and noise of the vehicle. This paper examines the body shake caused by the engine excitation force on engine key on/off of a medium truck by experiment and simulation. The analysis model consists of the engine, a body including the frame, front and rear suspensions and tires. The force element between the body and the suspension is modeled as a combination of a suspension spring and a damper. The engine shake obtained from the experiment was compared with the result of the computer simulation, and by using the verified computer model, parametric study of the body shake on engine key on/off is performed with changing the stiffness of an engine mount rubber, the engine mount angle, and the position of engine mounts.

신체 외부 고속 통신에서 Noncoherent 수신기 기반의 안테나 선택 기법 (Antenna Selection Scheme Using Noncoherent Receivers for Off-Body High Data Rate WBAN)

  • WBAN은 인체 내부 혹은 인체로부터 3미터 이내의 주변에서 일어나는 근거리 무선 통신을 목적으로 하는 네트워크이며 운전자의 생체 정보를 분석하여 보다 안전한 차량 운전이 가능하도록 하는 차량 산업에 적용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 고속 WBAN 시스템의 요구 조건을 만족하기 위한 UWB 기술과 다중 안테나 기법에 대해 논하고 Noncoherent UWB 수신기를 이용한 수신 안테나 선택 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 방식은 Noncoherent 수신기를 이용하여 BPPM 구간의 에너지 비율을 비교하여 수신 신호를 선택하는 기법으로 2~4개의 수신 안테나 환경에서의 성능을 비교 하였고, 시스템의 요구조건인 10-3 BER을 만족하는 경우에는 수신 신호의 에너지 크기를 비교하여 안테나를 선택하는 방식에 비해 4dB 이상의 성능 향상을 보였다.

  • 엔진의 가진력으로 인해 발생되는 차량의 진동은 승차감에 큰 영향을 미치며, 또한 엔진 마운트 계의 동역학적 특성은 차량의 진동 및 소음에 직접적인 영향을 준다. 본 논문에서는 승용 지이프차의 엔진 key-off시 엔진 가진력으로 인한 차체 흔들림(body shake)을 실험을 통하여 측정함과 동시에 매카니즘해석 전용 프로그램인 DADS를 이용한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 고찰하였다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 모델은 엔진, 후레임이 포함된 차체, 앞 엑슬 그리고 뒤 엑슬로 구성되며, 각 엑슬은 좌우에 타이어를 고려하였다. 실험에서 얻은 차체 흔들림의 실험 결과와 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션한 결과를 비교 검토하였으며, 검증된 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 모델을 통하여 엔진 마운트 고무의 강성, 엔진마운트의 설치각도 및 마운트 위치를 변경하여 key-off 시 자체 흔들림을 고찰함으로써 엔진 key-off 시의 차체 흔들림의 감소를 확인하였다.

A Flow Analysis of Small Craft by Using CFD

  • The small craft including jet-board for leisure are commonly smaller than the general commercial vessels. For the floating vessel, the motion analysis is significantly important component to design the shape. It is, however, hardly predicting its behavior by using conventional boundary element method due to violating small amplitude assumption for potential theory. The computational fluid dynamics method can afford to simulate such small craft, but its grid system was not able to calculate motion, because movable body disturbs the grid system by confliction. The dynamics fluid body interaction model with over-set mesh system can be dealt with movable floating body under irregular ocean wave. In this study, several cases were considered to reveal that DFBI is essential method to predict floating body motion. The single phase simulate was conducted to establish the shape perfection, and then the validated vessel was simulated with ocean waves weather DFBI option on or off. Through the comparison, the results between the cases of DFBI on and off shows significantly difference. It was claimed that the DFBI was necessary not only to calculation body motion, but also to predict accurate drag and lift force on the floating body for small size craft.

  • 최근 유비쿼터스 사회를 현실화하기 위해서 IT 기술을 차량 산업에 적용하여 인체 영역에서의 무선 통신이 어디에서나 가능하도록 하는 방법에 대한 연구가 이슈화 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 WBAN 기술의 인체외부 고속 통신을 위한 물리층 심벌 구조를 IEEE 802.15.4a 시스템 구조의 PPM 방식을 바탕으로 제안한다. 총 4가지 방식을 제안하며 채널 부호의 사용 유무, 연집신호에 들어가는 칩의 수에 따라 각 시스템을 구별하였다. 링크예산 계산을 통하여 요구되는 SNR을 구하였으며, 최근에 제안된 인체외부 WBAN 채널 환경을 적용하여 시뮬레이션을 하였다. 4가지 시스템의 성능 확인을 통하여 채널 부호를 사용하지 않고 적은 칩수의 연집신호를 사용하는 것이 성능향상에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였으며 요구되는 10 Mbps 이상의 전송률을 만족하였다.

순환여과양식시스템에서 광주기 및 어체 크기가 대서양연어(Salmo salar)의 Off-season Smolt 생산에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Photoperiods and Body Size on the Off-season Smolt Production of Atlantic Salmon Salmo salar in a Recirculating Aquaculture System)

  • This study investigated the effects of photoperiod (NL 12L:12D and LL 24L:0D) and body sizes (30 g and 50 g) on parr-smolt transformation, post-smolt growth and blood properties in the off-season parr-smolt stage of Atlantic salmon reared in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Potential off-season salmon smolt were reared in a freshwater RAS for 80 days and then all experimental fish were transferred to seawater. In both LL groups (LL-30 and LL-50), we recorded and increase in specific growth rate and reduction in feed conversion, although there were no significant difference in body size. The values of osmolality, and serum Na+, Cl- and cortisol concentrations in the LL groups were maintained at lower levels than in NL group fish, and LL group fish were observed to recover to the pre-seawater adaptation state more rapidly than those in the NL group. ID chips were inserted in all smolts reared in freshwater. These fish were subsequently transferred to full-strength seawater and thereafter individual growth rates were monitored for 120 days. The results indicated that compared with smolt reared under natural photoperiodic condition, 24 h lighting in freshwater contributed to enhancing post-smolt specific growth rate in seawater.

Exploration of power take off in wave energy converters with two-body interaction

  • The study explores a novel design of wave energy converter (WEC) that utilizes the interaction between an inside heaving vertical cylinder with an outside fixed hollow cylinder. This design originates from the oscillating water column (OWC) type WEC but replaces the pneumatic power take off (PTO) through the Wells turbine with the hydrodynamic PTO through the inside heaving cylinder. To effectively evaluate the maximum power output, the system has been modeled in the hydrodynamic software AQWA (developed by ANSYS Inc) that has accumulated extensive offshore industry users. Ranges of the PTO parameters have been examined to make sure that proper linear damping can be implemented to simulate the PTO force. Comparing the efficiency of the pneumatic PTO with the hydrodynamic PTO, it appears that the hydrodynamic PTO is more promising than the traditional Wells turbine for an OWC system.

  • An off-line programming, OLP, system is widely used in automation fines. To help an on-line robot system to carry out desirable tasks planned by the off-line simulation, an approach to the real-time communication is presented. The OLP system developed consists of a software, a host computer(PC), a SCARA robot body, four servo drivers, and four independent joint controllers. This study focuses on the software where real-time communication is included. The software, can be used in teaching, trajectory planning, real-time running, and performance evaluation. The evaluation of different control algorithms is one of the merits of the software. The software can give servo commands for task running. A comparison of generated and corresponding actual trajectories provides the evaluation of task performance. The safety, of the OLP system is ensured by alarming malfuntions of the system. The OLP system developed can reduce the teaching time and increase the user's convenience.

  • 중첩격자계와 접합격자계를 이용한 적응격자 기법이 개발되었다. 유동장은 물체와 근접한 영역과 떨어진 영역으로 구분된다. 근접한 영역은 곡선 격자계로 채워지며 중첩격자기법으로 영역이 연결되고 떨어진 영역은 다양한 적응 단계를 가진 직교 격자계로 채워지며 접합격자기법으로 연결된다. 본 적응격자기법은 격자생성에 있어서의 유연성과 효과적인 격자적응 기능을 보여준다. 2차원 스토어 분리 해석을 포함하는 몇 가지 수치해석을 통해 본 적응격자기법의 성능을 검증하였다.
