동적 파티클과 HTML5를 이용한 웹기반 해양정보 가시화시스템 (Web-based Geovisualization System of Oceanographic Information using Dynamic Particles and HTML5)

  • 고정된 정적 이미지 형태의 정보제공자 중심 웹기반 또는 지도 상호작용을 통한 시 공간 연속적 정보제공이 가능하나 시스템의 확장성, 서비스 속도, 비표준 인터넷 웹환경, 사용자 접근성, 시 공간 변동성 표현 등에 제한이 있는 웹 GIS 기반 해양정보제공시스템을 개선하고자 HTML5와 동적 파티클을 이용한 웹기반 해양정보 가시화시스템을 구축하였다. 특히 위성을 통한 시 공간 연속 관측자료와 3차원 수치모델을 통해 생산되는 재분석 및 예측자료는 지리정보 기반의 이질적 대용량의 다차원 연속적 시 공간 변동성을 갖는 해양자료이다. 이에 대한 직관적이고 효과적인 이해와 활용을 위하여 동적 파티클을 이용하여 벡터성분의 해양변수 시공간 변동성 지리정보와 연동하여 가시화 하였고, 차세대 웹 플랫폼 표준인 HTML5와 WebGL, Canvas, D3, Leaflet map등의 오픈 라이브러리를 이용하여 구축된 해양정보 가시화시스템에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

대한해협에서 표층 뜰개 이동 예측 연구 (A Study on the Prediction of the Surface Drifter Trajectories in the Korean Strait)

  • 본 연구는 대한해협 인근 입자추적 예측 기법의 정확도 개선을 위해서 해수유동 수치모델 결과를 이용하여 만든 입자추적 모델과 현장 관측 자료를 이용한 기계학습 기반 입자 추적 모델을 비교 및 분석하였다. 세부 연구 방법으로는 대한해협에서 관측된 표층 뜰개 이동 궤적 자료, 3개 관측소(가거도, 거제도, 교본초 관측소)의 조위 및 바람자료를 학습시켜 만든 기계 학습(선형 회귀, 의사결정나무) 기반 예측자료, 수치모델 예측자료(ROMS, MOHID)를 3가지 오차평가방법(CC, RMSE, NCLS)을 통해 비교하였다. 최종 결과로서 CC와 RMSE에서는 의사결정나무 모델의 예측 정확도가 가장 우수하였고 NCLS에서는 MOHID 모델의 예측 결과가 가장 우수하였다.

한국연근해 참조기 (Pseudosciaena polyactis Bleeker) 어장의 해황 특성 (Oceanographic Conditions of Eishing Ground of Yellow Croaker (Pseudosciaena polyactis) in Korean Waters)

  • In order to utilize fisheries resources under a joint management scheme with adjacent nations, as well as detecting of fishing grounds, the factors which influence yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena polyactis) in Korean waters were studied using historical catch per unit effort and oceanographic data. The main fishing ground near Cheju Island was located along the thermal front formed between the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW) and northward moving warm current. When the YSBCW (index temperature: $10^{\circ}C)$ strongly extended southward, the fishing condition were worse than average. Especially, low temperatures greatly influenced stow net fisheries, which were operated in the deep water layer The concentration and dispersal of fishing ground and catch coincided with oceanographic features and the seasonality of water masses.

Data Assimilation for Oceanographic Application: A Brief Overview

  • In this paper, a brief overview on data assimilation is provided in the context of oceanographic application. The ocean data assimilation needs to ingest various types of data such as satellites and floats, thus essentially requires dynamically-consistent assimilation methods. For such purpose, sequential and variational approaches are discussed and compared. The major advantage of the Kalman filter (KF) is that it can forecast error covariances at each time step. However, for models with very large dimension of state vector, the KF Is exceedingly expensive and computationally less efficient than four-dimensional variational assimilation (4D-Var). For operational application, simplified 4D-Var schemes as well as ensemble KF may be considered.

동지나해${\cdot}$황해의 부세어장과 해황과의 관계 (On the Fishing Grounds of Buse and Oceanographic Condition in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea)

  • 동지나해${\cdot}$황해의 안강망에 의한 어획통계 자료($1967{\sim}1979$) 및 해양관측 자료를 이용하여 부세의 어획량, 어장의 변동과 수온 구조와의 관계를 조사하였다. 그 결과 부세의 주요 어장은 제주도 남서방해역에 집중하였으며, 주어기는 4월이었다. 또한 CPUE는50kg/haul 이상의 해역이 거의 없어 전반적으로 어장이 좋지 않았으며, 변동계수(C.V.)도 컸다. 특히 주어기인 4월에는 수심 50 m의 $10{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ 등온선역에 어장이 분포하였고, 같은 민어과인 참조기${\cdot}$강달이 등에 비해 냉수측에 분포하였다.

서해남부해역의 지자기 이상대 해석 (Magnetic anomaly in the southern part of the Yellow Sea)

  • 국립해양조사원에서는 우리나라 관할 해역에 대한 국가해양기본도 조사계획을 수립하여 1996년부터 동해를 시작으로 연차적으로 한반도 주변의 해역 전체에 대한 해양조사를 실시 중에 있고, 본 논문은 1999년도에 '해양2000호'를 이용하여 서해 남부지역에서 측정한 해양 지자기 자료를 이용하였으며, 지자기 자료를 처리하고 이를 해석하는 과정에서 지자기 이상대의 원인을 밝히는데 목적이 있다. 자력자료 처리는 불량자료의 검색 및 제거, Sensor 위치보정, 선체자기장 영향 보정, 일변화 보정, 정규보정, 교차점 오차 보정 등의 과정을 거쳐 조사 해역에서의 전자력치와 지자기 이상치를 구하였다. 조사해역의 전자력 분포는 $49000\;{\sim}\;51600\;nT$로 황해 해역에서의 정상적인 전자력세기 분포 범위에 속하는 것으로 판단된다. 등자력선의 분포는 북동-남서 방향으로 분포하고 있으며 북서쪽으로 갈수록 전자력치가 증가한다. $124^{\circ}$ 49' 48" E, $35^{\circ}$ 10' 48" N $\sim$ $125^{\circ}$ 7' 48" E, $35^{\circ}$ 33' 00" N 사이 구간 해역에 대한 자기 이상과 탄성파 단면도를 비교한 결과와 모델링 결과가 기존 탄성파 탐사단면에서 밝혀진 지하지질구조와 잘 일치하고 있다. 따라서 자력이상의 분포는 대체적으로 해저면 하부에 발달되어 있는 제3기 퇴적분지와 백악기 기반암의 분포에 따른 영향을 나타내고 있는 것으로 판단된다.

Argo 자료를 이용한 해외어장 실시간 해황정보시스템 개발연구 (Development of Real-time Oceanographic Information System for Pelagic Fishery Based on Argo Data)

  • Competitive power of pelagic fishery in Korea has been weakened by the domestic and international problems such as wage increase and exclusive economic zone. To make it worse, fishing fleet spends more than 80% of fishing time on searching fishing grounds. Real-time information on oceanographic data, temperature in particular, are likely to contribute to raise efficiency of fishing. However, available data obtained by satellite remote sensing, fixed buoy and drifting buoy, limited to sea surface or fixed positions. ARGO (Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography), an international program, has delivered vertical profiles of temperature and salinity in the upper 2000m of the world ocean every 10 days using freely moving floats. We have developed real-time oceanographic information system for pelagic fishery based on the Argo data which has the contents of vertical profile, horizontal distribution and vertical section of temperature around fishing grounds and searched data can be download unrestrictedly. Comparison of skipjack catch with sea surface temperature and depth of $20^{\circ}C$ derived from Argo data in the West Equatorial Pacific revealed that Argo data are able to help fishing fleet to find fishing grounds and to increase catch.

  • The task of development and usage in a corporate computer network of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS) of integrated technology of joint use by the scientists of satellite and sub satellite data on a Northwestern Pacific is considered. This integrated technology is realized by embedding of satellite data in the corporate oceanographic GIS of FEB RAS as a new information layer, and also by support of GIS by program techniques for specialized processing of both kinds of the data. As a result of integration the specialists of FEB RAS have an opportunity to carry out coordinated samples of satellite and various oceanographic data as a function of area, time and other important conditions, visualize them together and carry out analytical processing with the usage of the GIS tools. Application of the realized approach to improve the techniques of detection and description of the oceanic phenomena on ERS-l and ERS-2 SAR images as well as to improve of perspective techniques of the usage the brightness temperatures measured by a microwave radiometers AMSR-E on a board of Aqua (USA) satellites are discussed.

Analysis of haline channel formed in the East China Sea and the Atlantic Ocean using the T-S gradient diagram

  • In case of any coastal ocean near the mouth of huge rivers, low salinity water can be formed due to its large amount of freshwater discharge. For the acoustic analysis on the low salinity environment, some oceanographic data of the East China Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were collected through KODC (Korea Oceanographic Data Center) and NODC (National Oceanographic Data Center) online service. In this paper, the T-S gradient diagram is introduced to show a relation between the gradients of temperature and salinity in view of acoustic surface channel formation. Existence of haline channel, quantitative contribution of gradients of salinity and temperature, effectiveness of the channel formation can be known by the T-S gradient diagram. After applying the collected data into the diagram, tropical regions of the Atlantic Ocean show strong haline channel due to its nearly invariant temperature and drastic change of salinity with depth. The averaged transmission loss in the channel is about 5.7 ~ 7.5 dB less than that out of the channel by the results of acoustic propagation model (RAM: Range independent Acoustic Model). On the other hand, the East China Sea and temperate region of the Atlantic ocean have weaker haline channel with less difference of the averaged transmission loss between in and out of the channel as 3.2 ~ 6.0 dB. Although data samples used in this study have limitation to represent the general physical structures of the three ocean regions, the T-S gradient diagram is shown to be useful and acoustic field affected by low salinity environment is investigated in this study.

Observed Seasonal Variability of Barrier Layer in the Bay of Bengal

  • The objective of this study is first to resolve the spatial and seasonal variability of BL in the bay using 'the most comprehensive' data set available for the bay and then to understand the formation mechanisms and variability in the light of the known dynamical and thermodynamical processes. The most recent study [Masson et al., 2002] on the BL variability in the bay was based on the World Ocean Atlas (WOA98) of Levitus [1998]. The temperature and salinity profiles in the bay have increased considerably after the release of WOA98. The WOA98, itself has been updated to WOA01 in 2001. Further, the deployment of ARGO profiling floats in the bay since 2002 has generated many additional profiles. In addition to the ARGO data and the updated WOA01, the hydrographic data collected from the bay under several Indian national programs and archived in the Indian Oceanographic Data Centre (IODC) was also considered in the present study. The WOA98 and WOA01 consist of only limited data from the IODC archive, especially from the Exclusive Economic Zone of India. Therefore, the combination of these data from the three different sources (WOA01, ARGO and IODC) provides ‘the most comprehensive data set’ for the bay to resolve the BLT structure and its variability in a much better scale than in the past.
