  • Underfloor air distribution system is generally known to be more energy-saving and provide more comfort as compared with overhead air distribution system. In practice, however, some buildings to which underfloor air distribution system is applied have less effectiveness in saving energy and are getting dissatisfaction with cold draft caused by wind velocity of air distribution in terms of comfort. It is judged that such problems are due to failure to consider properties of underfloor air distribution system in applying it and identical design with the design standards for the existing overhead air distribution system. This study aims at introducing an air conditioning type of the occupied zone for underfloor all distribution system to see its effectiveness in saving energy for air conditioning of the occupied zone through a comparative simulation with the existing air conditioning type.

  • The authors carried out experiment, Computer Fluid Dynamics(CFD) and energy simulation of simulator. As a results of experiment and CFD, diffuser velocity is very important design factor for occupied zone air conditioning in Under Floor Air Distribution(UFAD) system. Then, in contrast to energy consumption of the Overhead system, the UFAD system could reduce 6.4% of the total energy because of occupied tone air conditioning. It concluded that tile UFAD system is more effective in energy Performance than the Overhead system.

  • The Janggun mine area is occupied by the Proterzoic and the Paleozoic meta-pelites, which are intruded by the Jurassic Chunyang granite. The metamorphic terrain is divided into four zones of progressive metamorphism on the basis of mineral assemblages. The zones are chlorite zone, staurolite zone, andalusite zone, sillimanite zone ascending order. Boundary lines between the zones resemble outline of the Chunyang granite mass. Isograd reactions are chlorite+chloritoid+muscovite=staurolite+biotite+quartz+water, staurolite+chlorite+muscovite+quartz=andalusite+biotite+water, and staurolite+muscovite+quartz=andalusite+biotite+garnet+water between the chlorite zone and the staurolite zone, the staurolite zone and the andalusite zone, and the andalusite zone and the sillimanite zone, repectively. They are univariant reactions in KFMASH component system. Metamorphic conditions estimated from garnet-biotite geothermometers and phase equlibria are $530^{\circ}C$ and lower than 4 kb.

  • The purpose of this research lays on examining the adequacy of the hybrid ventilation system. The hybrid ventilation system must satisfy the next to be used. Firstly, the cold-draft phenomenon must not exist in the occupied zone. Secondly, the condensation must not happen on the surfaces of vents. Thirdly, the flow of make-up air must be happened in an each space by exhausted air of a rest room and living room. We used an examination and CFD method to verify these. Trough the examination of air-vents, We confirmed that the cold-draft to be induced by make-up air does not happen and could not find the condensation in the limits of outdoor temperature higher than 265K. Through CFD simulation, We confirmed that the rapid temperature change existed only within 0.5m the occupied zone and the flow of air was happened in an each space by only exhausted air in the rest room and living room. Consequently, the hybrid system is possible method to an apartment house.

  • Two Spirostomum species collected from freshwater in Korea were identified as S. caudatum (Muller, 1786) and S. teres (Claparede and Lachmann, 1858). They are recorded for the first time in Korea. The description was based on the observation of living specimens and protargol impregnated specimens. Diagnostics of these species are as follows. Spirostomum caudatum: body size $400-450{\times}20-30\;{\mu}m$ in vivo, shaped long and slender with a tapered posterior part, highly contractile; macronucleus ellipsoid; adoral zone of membranelles occupied 30% of body length; somatic kineties 14-22 in number. Spirostomum teres: body size $240-460{\times}25-40\;{\mu}m$ in vivo, shaped long and slender with a flattened posterior end, highly contractile; cortical granules arranged in 2-3 rows; adoral zone of membranelles occupied 50% of body length; somatic kineties 20-30 in number; macronucleus ellipsoid; micronuclei 2-3 in number. Spirostomum caudatum and S. teres are the most similar congeners, but they are different in the posterior part of body (tail-like posterior part vs. flattened posterior end), length of adoral zone of membranelles in body length (1/3 vs. 1/2), and the number of somatic kineties (14-22 vs. 20-30). These populations match with European populations in morphological characters.

  • A simulation by the TOPAS model, two dimensional finite difference model was performed on the flows through drainage lock gate for the Saemangeum tidal reclamation project. Analysis focus on the changes of intertidal zone areas according to the operation scheme of the gate. The intertidal zone areas were analyzed as $66{\sim}70\;km^2$ when the opening of the gate was 300 m. It occupied about $85{\sim}90%$ of intertidal zone areas compared to that the Mangyung sea basin was opened without sea-dike. It appeared to be the most effective in terms of securing enough intertidal zone areas when the gate was operated as inflowing sea-water after 2 day's drainage.

  • Microzooplankton was analysed between $40^{\circ}s$ to $53^{\circ}s$S and $140^{\circ}E$ to $146^{\circ}E$ of the Sourthern Ocean from November 18 to November 30, 1995 to investigate the influence of frontal systems. The density and carbon biomass of microzooplankton were clearly associated with frontal systems, and at least 4 different communities were identified. The Subtropical Convergence Zone and Antarctic Polar Front Zone were the major biological boundaries recognized in the Southern Ocean. Ciliates predominated other microzooplankton in density and carbon biomass. Non-tintinnid ciliates occupied more than 70% of the total microzooplankton, and Laboea spp. was the major component of the non-tintinnid ciliates. The density and carbon biomass showed a decreasing tendency toward south from $40^{\circ}S$ to the $53^{\circ}S$ transect. The ecological importance of a frontal zone is confirmed by the microzooplanktonic data obtained from this study.

  • In the littoral zone of Lake Paltangho, a vegetation map of aquatic macrophytes was constructed to estimate their occupied area, and the change of abundance of submersed macrophytes was examined along water depth to elucidate niche perferences on the depth gradient. Total area of the littoral zone was 267 ha, of which submersed, emergent and floating-leaved macrophytes covered 155ha, 103 ha and 10ha, respectively. Submersed macrophytes were distributed within a water-depth of 2.5m, with an apparent pattern of zonation: Vallisnaria gigantea and Ceratophyllum demersum at the deeper water depth of 1.5~2.5m.

  • A landcover map watershed of downstream reach in the Gyungan stream was made by using the existing land use map and interpreting satellite images and aerial photos. Based on the map, we analyzed land use patterns of this basin. Broad-leaved forest occupied the largest area among landscape elements established in this watershed. The total area of the zone designated as the waterside district by the central government was 4.7 km2 , and broad-leaved forest occupied the largest area as 33.9% in this zone. Therefore, the area did not meet the qualifications of riparian zones. Riparian vegetation established in the Gyungan stream watershed was composed of Phragmites communis, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Salix gracilistyla, Salix koreensis. But terrestrial vegetation elements such as Ambrosia trifida, Ailanthus altissima, Robinia pseudoacacia also appeared in this area. On the other hand, Phragmites japonica, Salix gracilistyla, Salix koreensis, Salix integra, Ulmus davidiana and so on appeared in the riparian zone the reference streams. Differently from the vegetation established on the reference streams, terrestrial vegetation elements appeared frequently in the Gyungan stream watershed. This result would be due to that the Gyungan stream watershed is exposed to excessive human interferences.
