In order to epidemiologically verify the tensile that cervical abfraction is developed from the tensile stress during lateral excursion, comparisons between the experimental group with cervical abfraction and the control group without cervical abfaction was made by exmining the occlusal wear and patterns from the dental cast. 1. The degree of occlusal wear in the experimental group with cervical abfraction was higher than that of control group without cervical abfraction.(p<0.05) 2. No significant difference in the occlusal wear pattern was found between the experimental group and the control group. 3. Higher degree of occlusal wear was found in the age group of abov 40 than that of below 40.(p<0.05) 4. There was a correlation between the degree of occlusal wear and the degree of cevical abfraction.(p<0.05) 5. There was a correlation between the age and the degree of cevical abfraction.(p<0.05) It can be concluded that occlusal stress is the etiologic factor of cervical abfraction, but no clear distinction was made between the relationship of tensile stress and cervical abfraction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of two different oblique mechanical loading to occlusal surfaces of cement retained implant on the stress distributions in surrounding bone, using 3-dimensional finite element method. Methods: A 3-dimensional finite element model of a cement retained implant composed of three unit implants, simplified ceramic crown and supporting bone was developed according to the design of ement retained implant for this study. two kinds of surface distributed oblique loads(100 N) are applied to following occlusal surfaces in the single crowns; 1) oblique load on 2 occlusal points(50N for each buccal cusp, 2 buccal cusps exist), 2) oblique load on 4 occlusal points(25N for each buccal and lingual cusp, 2 buccal and 2 lingual cusps exist) Results: The results of the comparison of the stress distributions on surrounding bone are as follows. In the condition of oblique load on 2 occlusal points, VMS was 741.3 Mpa in the M1(Ø$4.0{\times}13mm$) model and 251.2 Mpa in the M2(Ø$5.0{\times}13mm$) model. It means the stress on the supporting bone is decreased. The results of oblique load on 4 occlusal points are similar to this one. Conclusion: Increasing the diameter of the implant fixture is helpful to distribute the stress on the supporting bone. Also, to obtain the structural stability of the supporting bone, it is effective to distribute the load evenly on the occlusal surface of crown in producing single crown implant.

Occlusal loading is considered as the main factor of noncarious cervical lesions. The goal of this study is to identify stress distribution using three dimensional finite element analysis, when occlusal loading is applied on the cervical lesion of human tooth. A finite element model was constructed from micro-CT image and three kinds of static force(500 N) were assumed. In all cases stress concentrates on the same area in the cement-enamel junction. This finding is consistent with published experimental results.

Statement of problem : Clinically, maxillary first premolar has a high risk of fracture. This is thought to be caused by the susceptible figure which the maxillary first premolar has In other words, sharp cusp angles of the premolar is thought to influence this situation. Purpose : This study was to know stress distribution of all-ceramic crown according to the cusp angle. Material and Method : It was manufactured a three dimensional finite element model simplified maxillary first premolar, and then analyzed stress distribution when cusp angle was each $80^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $100^{\circ}$, $110^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$. Results and conclusion : 1. The von Misses stress showed that stress decreases as cusp angle increases in the central groove of the occlusal surface. 2. It showed that maximum principal stress was centered at the region of the central groove of the occlusal surface and a region which the force was inflicted. And also it appeared high on the lingual and buccal side of finish line. 3. The X axis of normal stress was focused in the central groove of the occlusal surface. The Y axis normal stress appeared high in the central groove of the occlusal surface, buccal and lingual side. 4. The Stress near the finish line showed a low value compared with stress in the region of the central groove of the occlusal surface. 5. It shows that the most dangerous angle for tooth fracture was on $80^{\circ}$ of the cusp angle and low on $120^{\circ}$ of its.

PURPOSE. While dental implants have displayed high success rates, poor mechanical fixation is a common complication, and their biomechanical response to occlusal loading remains poorly understood. This study aimed to develop and validate a computational model of a natural first premolar and a dental implant with matching crown morphology, and quantify their mechanical response to loading at the occlusal surface. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A finite-element model of the stomatognathic system comprising the mandible, first premolar and periodontal ligament (PDL) was developed based on a natural human tooth, and a model of a dental implant of identical occlusal geometry was also created. Occlusal loading was simulated using point forces applied at seven landmarks on each crown. Model predictions were validated using strain gauge measurements acquired during loading of matched physical models of the tooth and implant assemblies. RESULTS. For the natural tooth, the maximum vonMises stress (6.4 MPa) and maximal principal strains at the mandible ($1.8m{\varepsilon}$, $-1.7m{\varepsilon}$) were lower than those observed at the prosthetic tooth (12.5 MPa, $3.2m{\varepsilon}$, and $-4.4m{\varepsilon}$, respectively). As occlusal load was applied more bucally relative to the tooth central axis, stress and strain magnitudes increased. CONCLUSION. Occlusal loading of the natural tooth results in lower stress-strain magnitudes in the underlying alveolar bone than those associated with a dental implant of matched occlusal anatomy. The PDL may function to mitigate axial and bending stress intensities resulting from off-centered occlusal loads. The findings may be useful in dental implant design, restoration material selection, and surgical planning.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of three different oblique mechanical loading to occlusal surfaces of posterior implant partial dentures on the stress distributions in surrounding bone, using 3-dimensional finite element method. A 3-dimensional finite element model of a posterior implant partial dentures composed of three unit implants, simplified 3 gold alloy crown and supporting bone was developed according to the design of AVANA self tapping implant for this study. Three kinds of surface distributed oblique loads(300 N) are applied to following occlusal surfaces in the three crowns; 1) All occlusal surfaces in the three crown(load of 300 N was shared to three crown), 2) Occlusal surface of centered crown (load of 300 N was applied to a centered crown), 3) Occlusal surface of proximal crown(load of 300 N was applied to a distal proximal crown). In the results, 141 MPa of maximum von Mises stress was calculated at third loading condition and 98 MPa of minimum von Mises stress was calculated at first loading condition. From the results, location and type of occlusive loading conditions are important for the safety of supporting bone.

The occlusal force of the tooth leads to loss of tooth tissue owing to attrition and abrasion, and may cause abfraction and pathological change of the dentin. Thus, we developed finite element models, examined them by applying ordinary occlusal force, and analyzed the stress distribution. Specimens used were mandibular first premolars from 15 Korean males and 13 females and were made into finite element models from medical images that were obtained using a Micro-CT. We have found that the irregular feature of the tooth is not only useful to masticating and pronouncing as well known, but it is also suitable for protecting inner tissue by dispersing stress and delivering proper pressure to periodontal tissue to continue a physiological action. Also, image analysis could let us know the factor that is the cause of a disorder due to stress concentration in the cervical line. These results are expected to support the field of dental treatment planning, operating procedure and clinical trial, and the advance of technical expertise to develop implants and dentures.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of loading at three different occlusal surface position of the gold alloy crown on the stress distributions in surrounding bone, utilizing 3-dimensional finite element method. A three dimensional finite element model of an implant with simplified gold alloy crown and supporting bone was developed for this study. A oblique or vertical load of 100 N was applied at the following position at each FE model : 1) center of occlusal surface, 2) a point on the buccal side away from center of occlusal surface (COS) by 2.8mm, 3) a point on the lingual side away from COS by 2.8mm. In the results, Minimum von Mises stresses under vertical load or oblique load of 100N were about 6MPa at the center of occlusal surface and about 40MPa at the point on the buccal side, respectively. From the results we could come to the conclusion that occlusive loading position could be an important factor for establishment of structural safety of supporting bone.
Purpose: This study is for the prosthesis of dogs. Observe the occlusal relation between the dog's canine and carnassial teeth. The strength and the direction of the occlusal by 3D FEM analysis. Methods: The mandibular canine and carnassial of dogs were tested. The dog's skull was contact point confirmed by dental CAD. The skull of the dog was 3D modeled by CT. The 3D model was analyzed by ABAQUS. Opening and closing movement has been a force of 100N, 200N, 300N, 500N, 1000N, 1,500N. The peak von Mises stress distribution was confirmed. Results: As occlusal force increased, stress appeared to 1.34 MPa, 3.32 MPa, 5.00 MPa, 6.19 MPa, 5.58 MPa, 5.47 MPa in left canine. and Stress was seen at 2.10 MPa, 3.08 MPa, 3.89 MPa, 5.50 MPa, 7.04 MPa, 7.18 MPa in the right canine. Stress appeared at 2.41 MPa, 3.53 MPa, 5.15 MPa, 7.28 MPa, 31.26 MPa, 67.22 MPa in the left carnassial. and Stress was seen at 1.57 MPa, 2.96 MPa, 3.76 MPa, 6.01 MPa, 20.94 MPa, 64.38 MPa in the right carnassial. Conclusion: Peak von Mises stress values were found at the peak of the canine, the buccal of the central cusp of the carnassial, and the occlusal surface of the distal cusp.

he purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the IPS Empress ceramic crown with 1.0mm width rounded shoulder, which is usually recommended in all ceramic crown, and 0.5mm width chamfer finish lines on the maxillary first premolar. 30 sound maxillary first premolars were selected and then storaged in 5% NaOCl and saline. 15 teeth were performed preparation for each group(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer). After 30 stone dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement(Bistite resin cement, Tokuyama Soda Co. LTD., Japan) on the natural teeth. The cemented crowns were mounted on the positioning jig and the universal testing machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany)was used to measure the fracture strength, with stress loading on the occlusal surface between buccal and lingual cusp. And also, three-dimensional finite element model was used to measure the stress distribution with two types of the finish lines(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer) and two loading conditions(both buccal and lingual cusp inclination, lingual cusp inclination only). The result of the this study were as follows. In the fracture resistance experiment according to the finish line, the mean fracture strength of rounded shoulder(842N) showed higher value than that of the chamfer(590N) (p<0.05). In the three dimensional finite element analysis of all ceramic crown, metal die and natural teeth model did not show any differences in stress distribution between finish lines. Generally, when force was loaded on the occlusal inclination of buccal and lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the loading point and the central groove of occlusal surface. When force was loaded only on the occlusal inclination of lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the lingual finish line and loading point.
