  • Objectives: Recently, high attention has been drawn towards evidence based medicine(EBM). However, there is little follow study after Park's analysis research (2002) in the journal of oriental gynecology. Therefore, there is a need to conduct analyzed research on the topic, due to the increasing interest about EBM. Methods: To analyze the treatises of the journal of oriental gynecology, we examined 56 journals published from 1987 to 2010. we followed the way of Park, classifying treatises into bibliographic, experimental and clinical categories. Results: Analytic research, as a part of clinical treatises, increased rapidly from 2001. As a result, it took 53.3% of whole study in general after 2002 and it reached up to 70.0% in 2004. Most part of clinical treatises until 2002 was about case report of patients, but the amount of clinical trial started to increase since 2003. Case report and case series showed dramatic increase after 2001, and clinical trial started to increase after 2003. As a result, 43.8% of the analyzed research was due to clinical trial by 2009. Conclusions: On the base of this research, quality evaluation of clinical treatises using guality assessment tool is needed for EBM in the part of oriental obstetrics & gynecology.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether Lonicera japonica(LJ) could inhibit LPS-induced type I IFN production. Methods: To evaluate inhibitory effect of LJ on type I IFN, we examined type I IFN, IRF-1, 7 and IL-10 production on LPS-induced macrophages using real time RT-PCR. Next, we observed the interaction of type I IFN, IRF-1, 7 and IL-10 using IL-10 neutralizing antibody. Finally we examined the activation of STAT-1, 3 using western blot. Results: LJ inhibited Type I IFN expression of mRNA and increased IL-10 expression of mRNA. Also LJ inhibited the level of IRF-1, 7 mRNA and the nuclear translocation of IRF-3. Further more, LJ reduced the activation of STAT-1, 3 which are involved in continuous secretion of immune cytokines. Blockade of IL-10 action caused a significant reduction of type I IFN and IRF-1, 7 than LPS-induced LJ pretreatment. Conclusions: LJ inhibits LPS-induced production of type I IFN by IL-10. This study may provide a clinical basis for anti-inflammatory properties of LJ.

Methods: Researchers got a grip on the life event stress of patient by using medical examinations by interview and compared the conditions of patient before and after treatment by using Kupperman's Index. The prescription of the Gamidangguisu-san hap samhap-tang( Jiaweidangguixu-san he sanhetang) and the Gamisoyo-san (Jiaweixiaoyao-san) and the acupuncture therapy and the moxibustion therapy were used for the treatment. Results: The serious musculoskeletal systemic pains, which includes back pain, lumbago, and myalgia, and other menopausal troubles were improved remarkably. Conclusion: The menopausal disorder could be caused by not only the change of hormone but also complex factors of environmental matters which includes social cultural surroundings, mentality etc. Therefore the life event stress could be one of critical factors of menopausal disorder. The diagnosis and treatment considering the life event stress could be effective method to relieve patient's menopausal disorder.

  • Purpose: Hominis placenta have used widely for women's disease like climacteric syndrome, dysmenorrhea, infertility, but we don't have enough evidence with it. This study is to investigate efficacy and safety of Hominis Placenta on women by investigating papers. Methods: We searched for papers which had Hominis placenta, placental extract associated with women's disease in the Pubmed and Korean journals. Results: 20 papers were found. 15 papers were associated with menopausal disorder. Hominis placenta could have the efficacy on osteoporosis and climacteric syndrome induced by menopause. And each 2 papers were relevant to postpartum symptoms and menses. 1 papers was relevant to pregnancy. Most of studies have shown that Hominis placenta is useful for female disorders. Conclusions: Hominis placenta could be a good treatment for female disorder like climacteric syndrome, dysmenorrhea, infertility. But evidence is not enough with Hominis placenta, so more research will be needed.

Methods: The patients who had amenorrhea caused by premature ovarian failure were treated by oriental medicine such as herb medication, acupuncture and moxibustion. We evaluated the results of treatments by change of symptoms, serum hormone assay, basal body temperature and Kupperman's Index. Results: After oriental medicine, the patients could have their normal menstrual cycle. Also serum hormone assay, basal body temperature and Kupperman's Index were improved. Conclusions: This study shows that oriental medicine has effects on patients with premature ovarian failure. And serum hormone assay, basal body temperature and Kupperman's Index would be valid measurement to evaluate the effect of treatments for premature ovarian failure.

Methods: Through medical website 'Pubmed', foreign clinical literatures about female sexual dysfunction were searched and domestic clinical literatures about female sexual dysfunction were searched using internet websites 'National assembly library', 'KISS', 'RISS', 'Korean traditional knowledge portal'. Results: Total 19 literatures were selected from January 2000 to June 2012. 15 foreign literatures were selected through medical website and 4 domestic literatures were chosen using internet websites or hand-searching. 5 literatures were published in 2008 and 13 literatures mentioned about age group of patients. FSFI is most common tool for female sexual dysfunction. 9 of 19 literatures were using Herbal medicine for treatment. 5 literatures were about CBT, 6 literatures were about Biofeedback and other one literatures are about Perineal massage. There were 14 Randomized controlled trials and 5 Non-randomized controlled trials. And randomized controlled trials were relatively low in risk of bias than non-randomized controlled trials. Conclusions: Upon these results, in similar future more clinical trials should be done and accumulate Evidence-based literatures.
