과학교육에서 제시하는 과학적 관찰의 의미와 과정에 대한 분석 (An Analysis of Meanings and Processes about Scientific Observation in the Science Education)

  • 과학적 관찰은 과학 탐구 및 과학적 지식생성과정에 있어 기초적이며, 매우 중요한 과정으로써 인식되고 있다. 그러나 과학적 관찰의 중요성에 대한 인식에 비해 학습자에게 제시되어야 하는 과학적 관찰의 의미와 과정에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 과학적 관찰에 대한 대다수의 연구들은 관찰행동과 관찰사실의 특징과 유형을 알아보기 위한 것들로써 학습자에게 제공되는 관찰활동이 어떻게 구조화되어야 하는지에 대한 해답을 제시하는데 한계점을 지니고 있다. 이 연구에서는 이전의 체계적이고 다양한 연구결과들을 바탕으로 과학적 관찰의 의미와 과정에 대해 알아보았다. 과학적 관찰이란 대상으로부터 얻을 수 있는 감각 정보를 수용하여 관찰자의 주관적 요소로 구성된 지적틀을 통해 정보를 인식하는 활동이라고 할 수 있다. 또한, 관찰행동을 통해 인식된 정보는 관찰자의 주관적 요소에 해당하는 지적틀을 통해 관찰사실로 생성되어 추론과 독립적으로 지적틀에 영향을 미치거나, 추론에 의해 변환되어 지적틀에 영향을 주게 된다. 결국, 관찰자의 지적틀은 과학적 관찰에 의해 계속적으로 변화됨으로써, 이후에 수행되는 관찰행동과 관찰 사실 생성에 영향을 주는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 과학적 관찰활동은 학습자의 주관적 요소가 고려되어야 하며, 추론과 연계된 관찰활동이 제시되어야 한다. 또한, 다양한 대상에 대한 관찰뿐만 아니라, 지속적 관찰활동을 통해 학습자의 지적틀이 변화될 수 있는 기회가 제공되어야 한다.

초등 예비교사들이 개발한 과학관 활동지의 유형 및 요건, 필요성에 대한 관점 분석 (An Analysis of Types of Science Museum Worksheets developed by Elementary Pre-service Teachers and Their Perspectives on the Requirements and Necessity)

  • This study aims to analyze types of science museum worksheets developed by elementary pre-service teachers and their perspectives on the requirements and necessity of science museum worksheets. As analysis subjects, this study selected 38 kinds of worksheets and reports developed by 114 elementary pre-service teachers who were in the third year of university of education. In this study, the science museum selected for elementary pre-service teachers to develop worksheets was a national science museum, composed of 'Nature and Discovery Museum', 'Science Technology and Industry Museum' and 'Children's Museum', which was located in a metropolitan city and opened in 2013. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; Firstly, as a result of analyzing the science museum worksheets developed by elementary pre-service teachers, this study found out that the experience type with hands-on and observation techniques applied was most, and as an approach method, direct manipulation, look-in observation and close observation were most. However, although these science museum worksheets were experience-oriented, many of them were survey-oriented ones that suggested too many questions through various exhibits. Secondly, as a result of analyzing requirements of science museum worksheets elementary pre-service teachers thought and described through the word tree of NVivo 10, this study extracted 10 kinds of main themes, out of which the requirement, 'A limited amount of activity should be required', showed the highest frequency. Thirdly, as a result of analyzing the necessity of science museum worksheets elementary pre-service teachers thought and described through the word tree of NVivo 10, this study extracted 9 kinds of main themes, out of which the opinion, 'It is required to help students check an exhibit which may be passed by', was most.

For the Acquisition of Customers' Emotional Elements in the Service Design by SOMC: Simultaneous Observation Method based on Cooperation

  • Objective: This research proposes a methodology, which validates a grasp of the customers' emotions in the service design area. Background: As the era of service design has taken its approach, the need for a deliberate design that would reflect the customer's experience had emerged in the area of service. Therefore, a variety of methodologies has been adopted in the field of service design with the purpose of discovery of the customers' needs. Even though the importance of an emotion-sentient research of a service experience increases, its research progress remains to be inadequate in comparison to all the other areas. Method: Having had taken some resources from the emotional studies under other areas of expertise as a base, the concept of volatility of emotions has been introduced as the core element of this research, further followed by an elaboration of its special characteristics. The observation technique under Stakeholder's system: SOMC(Simultaneous Observation Method based on Cooperation) has been proposed in this study as it presents an effective way to grasp the concept of volatile emotions in contrast to the previously existent types of methodologies. Results: The SOMC rather supplements the existing research methods than substitutes the previous ones. In other words, although the existing research system allowed emotion detection, it was difficult to capture the change of momentary and fickle emotions. On the opposite, the SOMC provides a condition allowing a sufficient grasp of the customer's emotions and facilitates emotional capture. Conclusion: For that reason, it is hoped that this piece of research represents a valuable and effective approach in terms of grasping the true needs of the customers on the emotional level, which will in its turn contribute to the improvement of the service quality in the midst of a complicated service condition. Application: Moreover, the purpose of this research is that in its outcome it may serve as a sufficient contribution to the area of emotional studies within the field of service design.

초등 예비교사들이 '배추흰나비 한살이' 탐구 수행과정에서 겪는 어려움 (A Study on Difficulties Experienced by Pre-service Elementary School Teachers in Carrying out a Research on 'the Life Cycle of a Common Cabbage Butterfly')

  • This study aims to analyze difficulties that pre-service elementary teachers experience in investigating the life cycle of a common cabbage butterfly in person. As difficulties they face during the process of this research, they pointed out collecting eggs, observing molting, creating environments for a breeding cage, feeding, building a breeding cage, and making butterfly specimens. Out of all the environmental difficulties related to their school fields, they pointed out a difficulty of time management most of all, followed by placing a breeding cage in the classroom and the lack of microscopes for observation. In regard to difficulties related to their evaluations on students' activities, they found it difficult to evaluate students' activity with the life cycle of an insect in the aspect of knowledge and even to set evaluation criteria. Besides, many of them responded that it would be appropriate to evaluate a research on the life cycle of an insect through a portfolio or an observation journal. In regard to difficulties in terms of teachers' knowledge, they found it difficult to understand insect molting, metamorphoses, complete metamorphoses, incomplete metamorphoses, the structure of an insect body, and how to distinguish a female insect from a male one. In regard to the application of class models, they knew it is important for students to have various experiences through direct observation, so the experience-based learning model was proper for the process of observing the life cycle of a common cabbage butterfly. However, they found it difficult for students to observe each stage of the life cycle in person.

Toward Next Generation Solar Coronagraph: Diagnostic Coronagraph Experiment

  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) has been developing a next-generation coronagraph (NGC) in cooperation with NASA to measure the coronal electron density, temperature, and speed using four different filters around 400 nm. To demonstrate technology for the measurement through the 2017 total solar eclipse across the USA, KASI organized an expedition team to demonstrate the coronagraph measurement scheme and the instrumental technology. The observation site was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA. We built an eclipse observation system, so-called Diagnostic Coronal Experiment (DICE), which is composed of two identical telescopes to improve a signal to noise ratio. The observation was conducted with 4 wavelengths and 3 linear polarization directions according to the planned schedule in a limited total eclipse time of about 140 seconds.Polarization information of corona from the data was successfully obtained but we failed to get the coronal electron temperature and speed information due to a low signal-to-noise ratio of the optical system. In this study, we report the development of DICE and observation results. TSE observation and analysis by using our own developed instrument gave an important lesson that a coronagraph should be carefully designed to archive the scientific purpose. This experience through TSE observation will be very useful for a success of NASA-KASI joint missions called the Balloon-borne Investigation of the Temperature and Speed of Electrons in the Corona (BITSE) and COronal Diagnostic EXperiment (CODEX).

들뢰즈의 '되기' 운동으로 바라본 고등학생들의 천체 관측 활동 경험 (The Experiences of High School Students about Astronomical Observation Activities Seen through the Movement of Deleuzian "Becoming")

  • 과학 실천은 학습 소재에 해당하는 대상이나 관찰과 측정을 위한 도구와 같은 '이질적인 것'들과 새로운 관계를 맺는 과정이다. 최근 전공 교과에 대한 과학 실천이 점차 강조되고 있는 시점에서 본 연구에서는 천체 관측이라는 지구과학 교과의 특유한 과학 실천을 새롭게 들여다보고자 했다. 이를 위해 천체 관측을 경험한 학생들과 수많은 물질들이 만들어 낸 의미를 '-되기'의 경험으로 바라보았다. 연구의 방법으로는 A고등학교의 천체 관측 활동에 참여하는 17명의 학생들이 작성한 활동 일지, 사진 자료 등을 수집하고 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 수집한 자료는 상황 분석 방법을 재구성하여 살펴보았다. 주요 연구결과로는, 학생들의 존재-인식론적 '-되기'의 과정으로 1) 반복을 통해 새로움을 발견하는 과정, 2) 천체 관측 활동의 정동을 전달하기 위한 '설명 기계'가 되어가는 과정, 3) 안정적인 영토를 벗어나 문턱을 넘는 과정을 발견하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 지구과학교육과 교육 연구를 위한 교사의 실천과 새로운 접근 방식에 대해 제언하였다.

유아와 교사가 경험하는 실존적 공간으로서 유치원의 장소성 (A Sense of Place of Kindergartens as Existential Space in which Children and Teachers Experience)

  • 본 연구는 유아들이 유치원이라는 공간을 실존적으로 경험함으로써 형성되는 장소성의 의미를 유아들의 놀이를 중심으로 탐구하고 있다. 이를 위해 유아들이 경험하게 되는 유치원의 모든 공간을 연구관찰 대상범위로 선택하였다. 연구를 수행하기 위해 유아 관찰과 비형식 면담 교사 심층면담을 통해 유아들의 자유선택활동 시간과 바깥놀이를 중심으로 동영상 촬영이 이루어 졌다. 연구결과 유아와 교사가 경험하는 실존적 공간으로서 유치원의 장소성은 경험과 관계속에서 형성되는 공간으로서의 장소성, 놀이의 공동생산 공간으로서의 장소성, 교육과 생활이 공존하는 공간으로서의 장소성, 유아들의 경험한 유치원에 의해 만들어진 특별한 공간, 소통에 의해 공유된 공간으로서의 장소성을 나타내는 것을 알 수 있었다. 유치원의 장소성은 유아들의 실존적인 경험과 관계를 맺고 있었으며 교사들은 공간에 대한 재해석이 필요함을 시사한다.

Participation of Korean Medical Students in Clinical Practice Course in Western Medical School: Case of College of Korean Medicine

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop a clinical practice observation course in a medical school that can give Korean medical students opportunities to experience the treatment environment in western medicine, and to analyze the results of the course. Methods: A total of 47 (collection rate: 85.5%) senior students of the College of Korean medicine in Gyunggi-do replied to the survey. Twenty-seven of them were male and 20 were female. They participated in the clinical practice observation course in the medical school two days a week for two weeks (total: four days) in the academic year 2011-2012. Before the course, an orientation was held; and upon the students' completion of the course, they presented their experiences and replied to the survey. Results: According to the survey, the purpose of the course was well explained (91.5%), and the course was necessary for Korean medical students (97.9%). The four-day course duration was inappropriate, though (83%). The female students were more satisfied with their participation in the fourth year and with the timing of the course than the male students were. The students who finished the course at the surgical departments recognized the necessity of the course more than the students who finished the course at the non-surgical departments. The advantages of the course included opportunities to observe operation scenes and experience clinical treatment processes and systems. The weakness of the course included poor organization due to the short preparation period. Conclusions: The course was confirmed as necessary for Korean medical students so that they would understand the treatment environment in western medicine. Through the course, the students broadened the understanding of the disease and developed a strong sense of identity as Korean medical students. The duration of the course needs to be extended, and its structure should be enhanced. Furthermore, various educational programs that offer Korean medical students opportunities to experience various clinical cases need to be introduced.

디지로그 북: 증강현실 기반 범종 체험 (Digilog Book: Augmented Reality based Temple Bell Experience)

  • `디지로그 북 (Digilog Book)' 은 아날로그 책과 디지털 콘텐츠의 장점을 통합함으로써, 아날로그적 감성과 디지털 오감을 함께 느끼도록 한다. 본 논문에서는 디지로그 북의 한 예로써, 범종 체험 시스템 구현에 관한 기술적인 사항을 언급한다. 시스템 구현은 사용자에게 다감각 피드백 (multisensory feedback) 을 제공, 책에 마커를 그림 마커로 대체하는 것, 책의 2D 평면에서 범종이 나올 의 효과, 범종 관찰을 위한 가상버튼을 손으로 누를 수 있도록 하는 부분, 감각형 객체를 이용하여 범종을 타종하는 것, 그리고 마지막으로 감각형 객체를 이용하여 범종의 특정 부분을 포인팅하여 특정 설명을 볼 수 있는 것을 포함한다. 본 논문에서 구현된 범종 체험 시스템은 사용자에게 우리나라의 문화유산을 체험해 볼 수 있는 교육적인 콘텐츠를 제공할 수 있다.

뒷산 체험 활동이 아동의 환경 감수성과 인지 능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Forest Experience on Elementary Students' Environmental Sensitivity and Cognition Ability)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the forest experience on elementary students' environmental sensitivity and cognition ability. The forest experience was applied to the experimental group and the control group was taught by the traditional teaching method focused on teachers' lecture for 8 lessons. The pre-test, the 1st, and 2nd post-test for environmental sensitivity were applied to both groups to analyze the effects of the forest experience. After then the results were analyzed by One-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. And the narration test for cognition ability on learning a environmental context was applied to only the experimental group and the results were analyzed. As a result, the students' environmental sensitivity was not significantly different(p<.05) between experimental and control groups in terms of the pre-test score. However, the 1st and 2nd post-test scores of experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group in term of the level of environmental sensitivity(F=9.28, p<.01, F=10.95, p<.01). The results of the forest experience in the aspect of cognition ability, 'the sound of nature(61%)', 'the smiling forest path which blooming out(57%)', and 'one's own places(52%) were high but 'the kinds and characteristics of the roots(30%)' was low. In conclusion, the forest experience made a positive effect on the students' environmental sensitivity and cognition ability through the direct observation, data collection, and analysis on the nearby natural environment.
