  • Citrus farming become one of highly potent area for the farmer s income in the Asia region. Because of its favorable taste and distinctive aroma, attractive color, and nutritional values, market demand has increased steadily along with the income increases in the region. However, realization of the potent have been constrained due to poor orchard management, frequent occurrences of pest and diseases, and a high cost in production besides of the market failures. Cutting down of production cost should be an operational goal to obtain mope profit where marketing structure has yet been underdeveloped. The objective of this study was to provide a comparative information to those program efforts of searching comparative advantage in production. For the three countries, reduction of labor cost by reduction of chemical application frequency was recommended while pursuing further mechanization in those operation such as in pruning, harvesting and pest control. Adoption of the IPM (integrated pest management) will be useful to reduce the number of spraying chemicals with changed knowledge and attitude of the farmers.

  • Objective: This prospective survey assessed factors associated with influenza vaccination behaviors among high-risk adults. Methods: 106 patients aged 65 or high risk for complications of influenza were interviewed to identify influencing factors to vaccination. Six potential consequences of Influenza infection and nine factors of vaccination were analysed between compliance and non-compliance groups. Results: Among the 106 patients, the vaccination rate was 62.3%. The rate of the group under the sixties was 37.0010, but the rate over the sixties was 88.5%. Factors in dependently associated with both influenza vaccination behaviors included older age, chronic disease, and especially, related to factors in older age were having positive attitudes toward immunization, perceived severity of infection and willingness to comply with the provider's recommendation. Conclusions: Emphasis on provider recommendations and the knowledge and attitudes of influenza infection and vaccination may enhance influenza vaccination rates in the organized vaccination programs.

  • As climate change and environmental degradation become more evident, the public's concern and knowledge on sustainable development requires planners to have regards to social impacts and long term economic viability, as well as environmental impacts. The main objective of this study is to analyze existing sustainability assessment tools for single detached houses. The most widely used oversea tools are selected. From analysis on the existing assessment tools, "Impact Estimator" by Athena Institute, "Bees 4.0" by NIST, "CASBEE for Home" by JSBC, "Envest for Housing" by Energy Saving Trust, "LISA" by Center for Sustainable Technology, "SBTool" by iiSBE (International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment), it can be seen that the current sustainability assessment programs are in need of much improvement. The selected programs are analyzed on scope of program setting & running, data input & output, assessment categories, and strength & weakness. This study is to supplement the existing sustainability assessment tools for single detached houses, and provide information for the development of web-based program to assist architects or home owners to plan sustainable houses in Korea in the schematic design stage.

  • The objective of this paper is to design a force feedback controller for bilateral control of a master-slave manipulator system using fuzzy sliding mode control. In a bilateral control system the motion of the master device is followed by slave the one. While the force applied to the slave is reflected on the master. In this paper, a proposed controller applied to the system. Adding a switching control term to the input, robustness is improved. Also the knowledge of the system dynamics is not needed. The computer simulation results show the performance of the proposed fuzzy sliding mode controller.

  • Recycling of used products and components has been considered as one of promising strategies for resolving environmental problems. In this respect, most manufacturing companies begin to consider possible recycling (e.q., reuse or re-production) of the components contained in their products. The primary objective of this research is to develop a multiple criteria decision making model for systematic management of recycle-oriented manufacturing components. The production planning problem of recycle-oriented manufacturing components is first formulated as a multiobjective mixed 0-1 integer programming model with three conflicting objectives. An interactive multiple criteria decision making method is then developed for solving the mathematical model. Also, an Input/Output analysis software is developed to help practitioners apply the model to real problems without much knowledge on computers and mathematical programming. A numerical example is used in examining the validity of the proposed model and to investigate the impact of the input variables on recycling production strategy.

  • This paper considers a special case of a three machine flow shop scheduling problem in which operation processing time of each job is ordered such that machine 1 has the longest processing time, whereas machine 3, the shortest processing time. The objective of the problem is the minimization of the total completion time. Although the problem is simple, its complexity is yet to be established to our best knowledge. This paper first introduces the problem and presents some optimal properties of the problem. Then, it establishes several special cases in which a polynomial-time optimal solution procedure can be found. In addition, the paper proves that the recognition version of the problem is at least binary NP-complete. The complexity of the problem has been open despite its simple structure and this paper finally establishes its complexity. Finally, a simple and intuitive heuristic is developed and the tight worst case bound on relative error of 6/5 is established.

  • The objective of this article is to investigate the kinds of fermented Korean medicinals used to cure dermatological diseases in past Korea. The method to do this study was to search the books on the website, Knowledge of Oriental Medicine Web Service, databased and serviced by Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine. Books and related chapters were searched to find fermented medicinals. The results was as follows. According to the website search, eleven kinds of fermented medicinals could be found to cure scabies, leprosy, scrofuloderma, molluscum contagiosum and tinea capitis. The way how to ferment, the purpose of fermenting and regarding historical features could also be found.

  • This paper presents an efficient dynamic programming(DP) method, so called EDPAS (Efficient Dynamic Programming Algorithm for Signal), for optimally controlling traffic signal in real-time mode at a single intersection. The objective of EDPAS is to minimize total vehicle delay. It applies reaching method to solve forward DP functional equation, which does not need any priori knowledge on the states of DP network. Two acceleration techniques within reaching method are the main feature of EDPAS. They are devised to eliminate inferior DP states by comparing between states and maintaining incumbent value, resulting in a great amount of computational efficiency. An example is shown to verify the advantage of EDPAS.

  • Prospects are briefly reviewed for further advances in current poultry industry technology in the foreseeable future. It is concluded that in the most advanced industries progress should continue at a similar rate to the recent past in conventional genetics and breeding, nutrition and disease control. Significant benefits will also follow in the short-term from the application of molecular biotechnology to disease diagnosis and vaccine production. Technical advances now make it possible to produce transgenic chickens at acceptable success rates but applications of this technology to poultry breeding will not become significant till we have sufficient knowledge of the poultry genome, and especially the genes involved in production performance. For the undeveloped and less advanced industries it is argued that the level of advanced technologies to be implemented in those countries should be decided largely on market forces, informed by objective assessment of the diverse options available. The need for urgent international action on conservation of poultry genetic resources is also stressed.
