남성적 응시에 의해 구조화되는 패션사진의 시각적 재현체제에 기반 한 여성의 재현 (Representation of women in visual representation system of fashion photography structuralized by male gaze)

  • This study is a theoretical research to investigate a methodological framework for analyzing the representation of women in fashion photography. For this study, this article attempts to develop a conceptual framework of the visual representation system through Lacan's gaze theory, and analyze the representational aspects of women configured by gendered characteristics in the visual representation system. Structuralizing the visual representation system based on that theory, the gaze, the image/screen, and the subject of representation in the Lacan's triangle diagram are replaced by the camera as the signifier of gaze, the representational image, and the seeing subject respectively. In the visual representation system, the camera creates a male-oriented visual field and structures a relationship of gendered power between male gaze as the seeing subject and female eye as an object to be seen. Looking into the representational aspects of women in this visual representation system structuralized by male gaze, women are represented in a way that reflects male desire through masquerade to comply with the patriarchal gaze, or differences that emphasizes the uniqueness and autonomy of women released from a patriarchal discourse. This study would be significant in that it provides theoretical basis for an analytic approach to the representation of women in fashion photography which we accept as a fixed one through the ideology of naturalization.

Person Re-identification using Sparse Representation with a Saliency-weighted Dictionary

  • Intelligent video surveillance systems have been developed to monitor global areas and find specific target objects using a large-scale database. However, person re-identification presents some challenges, such as pose change and occlusions. To solve the problems, this paper presents an improved person re-identification method using sparse representation and saliency-based dictionary construction. The proposed method consists of three parts: i) feature description based on salient colors and textures for dictionary elements, ii) orthogonal atom selection using cosine similarity to deal with pose and viewpoint change, and iii) measurement of reconstruction error to rank the gallery corresponding a probe object. The proposed method provides good performance, since robust descriptors used as a dictionary atom are generated by weighting some salient features, and dictionary atoms are selected by reducing excessive redundancy causing low accuracy. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied in a large scale-database surveillance system to search for a specific object.

2D 영상의 효과적인 부분 정합 시스템과 영역기반 영상 표현 (An Efficient Partial Matching System and Region-based Representation for 2D Images)

  • This paper proposes an efficient partial matching system and representation by using a region-based method for 2D image, and we applied to an extraction of the ROI(Region of Interest) according to its matching score. The matching templates consist of the global pattern and the local one. The global pattern can make it by using region-based relation between center region and its rest regions in an object. And, the local pattern can be obtained appling to the same method as global, except relation between objects. As the templates can be normalized, we use this templates for extraction of ROI with invariant to size and position. And, our system operates only one try to match, due to normalizing of region size. To use our system for searching and examining if it's the ROI by evaluating the matching function, at first, we are searching to find candidate regions with the global template. Then, we try to find the ROI among the candidates, and it works this time by using the local template. We experimented to the binary and the color image respectively, they showed that the proposed system can be used efficiently for representing of the template and the useful applications, such as partially retrievals of 2D image.

  • 제품정보의 모델링은 엔지니어링 환경에서, 특히 통합하된 생산시스템의 핵심인 CAD/CAM 시스템의 개발을 위해 매우 중요한 과제가 되어가고 있다. 모델이란 실세계의 개념과 현상에 대한 정형적인 표현의 결과이며, 모델링이란 제품의 관련한 정보를 식별하고 추상화 하여 정형화 하는 작업이다. 본 연구에서는 선박의장시스템의 대표적인 배관시스템을 모델링하였다. 배관시스템 정보의 전주기 정보를 표현하기 위한 메카니즘은 STEP(Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Date)의 개념을 기초로 하였고, 시스템의 분석, 설계 및 구현을 위한 수단으로는 객체지향기술을 이용하였다. 본 연구에서 정의된 배관시스템 모델을 향후 제품모델개념의 배관 CAD/CAM 시스템 구현의 기초가 될 것이다.

통사적 제약과 화용적 제약이 문장의 표상과 기억접근에 미치는 효과 (The effect of syntatic and pragmatic Constraints on Sentential Representaition and Memory Accessibility)

  • 본 연구는 문장 표상형성 과정에서 통사적 제약과 화용적 제약이 시간경과에 따라 각 구성성분의 표상 및 기억접근에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고자 실시되었다.통사적 제약과 화용적 제약을 분리시키기 위해 구성성분의 통사적 역할(주어,목적어)과 언급순서(첫째,둘째)를 조작하였고, 문장 구성성분의 표상강도를 기억접근의 용이서을 통해 살펴보기 위해 각 문장을 마디별로 제시한 후 목표단어의 재인 반응시간을 측정하였다. 탐사재인의 지연시간이 255ms인 실험 1에서는 주어가 목적어보다 그리고 먼저 언급된 정보가 나중에 언급된 정보보다 각각 28ms씩 기억접근 시간이 빠르 것으로 나타났으나,지연시간이 1540ms으로 기렁진 실험2에서는 주어와 목적어간의 기억접근 시간의 차이는 없었고 먼저 언급된 정보가 나중에 언급된 정보에 비해 기억접근 시간이 48ms가 빠른 것으로 나타났다.따라서 통사적 제약과 화용적 제약 모두 문장 표상형성 과정의 초기에는 독립적인 효과를 미치나 일정시간이 경과하면서 통사적 제약의 효과는 사라지며 화용적 제약의 효과만 남는다고 할수 있다.본 연구의 이러한 결과는 문장의 기억표상이 중다제약의 수렴적 만족에 으해서 점진적으로 심성모형을 형성하는 과정이라는 이론적 입장을 지지한다.

Extended Support Vector Machines for Object Detection and Localization

  • Object detection is a fundamental task for many high-level computer vision applications such as image retrieval, scene understanding, activity recognition, visual surveillance and many others. Although object detection is one of the most popular problems in computer vision and various algorithms have been proposed thus far, it is also notoriously difficult, mainly due to lack of proper models for object representation, that handle large variations of object structure and appearance. In this article, we review a branch of object detection algorithms based on Support Vector Machines (SVMs), a well-known max-margin technique to minimize classification error. We introduce a few variations of SVMs-Structural SVMs and Latent SVMs-and discuss their applications to object detection and localization.

An Empirical Study on the Cognitive Difference between the Creators and Users of Object-Oriented Methodology

  • The main objective of this study is to uncover the differences in the programming behavior between methodology creators and methodology users. We conducted an experiment with methodology creators who have invented one of the major object-oriented methodologies and with professional programmers who have used the same methodology for their software-development projects. In order to explain the difference between the two groups, we propose a theoretical framework that views programming as search in four problem spaces: representation, rule, instance and paradigm spaces. The main problem spaces in programming are the representation and rule spaces, while the paradigm and instance spaces are the supporting spaces. The results of the experiment showed that the methodology creators mostly adopted the paradigm space as their supporting space, while the methodology users chose the instance space as their supporting space. This difference in terms of the supporting space leads to different search behaviors in the main problem spaces, which in turn resulted in different final programs and performance.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient collision-free path planning method of two cooperating robot manipulators grasping a common object rigidly. For given two robots and an object, the procedure is described which constructs the reduced dimensional configuration space by the kinematic analysis of two cooperating robot manipulators. A path planning algorithm without explicit representation of configuration obstacles is also described. The primary steps of the algorithm is as follows. First, we compute a graph which represents the skeleton of the free configuration space. Second, a connection between an initial and a goal configuration to the graph is searched to find a collision-free path.

최적의 Boundary Smoothing을 위한 Mean Field Annealing 기법의 파라미터 추정에 관한 연구 (Parameter estimation of mean field annealing technique for optimal boundary smoothing)

  • We propose a method of paramete estimation using order-of-magnitude analysis for optimal boundary smoothing in Mean Field Annealing(MFA) technique in this paper. We previously proposed two boundary smoothing methods for consistent object representation in the previous paper, one is using a constratined regulaization(CR) method and the other is using a MFA method. The CR method causes unnecessary smoothing effects at corners. On the other hand, the MFA method method smooths our the noise without losing sharpness of corners. The MFA algorithm is influenced by several parameters such as standard deviation of the noise, the relativemagnitude of prior ter, initial temperature and final temperature. We propose a general parameter esimation method for optimal boundary smoothing using order-of-magnitude analysis to be used for consistent object representation in this paper. In addition, we prove the effectiveness of our parameter estimation and also show the temperature parameter sensitivities of the algorithm.

  • In this paper, rule-based stereo algorithm is explored to obtain three dimensional information of an object. In the preprocessing of the stereo matching, feature points of stereo images must be less sensitive to noise and well linked. For this purpose, a new feature points detection algorithm is developed. For performing the stereo matching which is most important process of the stereo algorithm, the feature representation of feature points is first described. The feature representation is then used for a rule-based stereo algorithm to determine the correspondence between the input stereo images. Finally, the three dimensional information of the object is determined from the correspondence of the feature points of right and left images.
