Epidemiological studies have indicated that a relationship between overweight and cardiovascular disease exists. To assess the relationship of unfavorable changes in serum lipid concentrations, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), blood sugar and blood pressure to anthropometric variables, nutrient intakes and dietary behavior,64 obese children were chosen as subjects and 24-hour dietary intake, dietary behavior as well as blood pressure, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), three kinds of cholesterol concentrations were measured in November 1976. More than half(57.8%) of the children had serum cholesterol concentrations over 175mg/d1, and 26.6% of them had over 200mg/d1 and this group could be classified as a high risk group. Abdominal obesity as measured with waist circumference and waist hip ratio was negatively co..elated to high density lipop개tein(HDL) cholesterol. Dietary behavior rather than nutrient intakes appeared to have associations with unfavorable lipid profiles. Total dietary behavior scores and fish and bean product consumption had strong correlations with potentially atherogenic lipoprotein concentrations. This study suggests that fir the early prevention of cardiovascular disease, waist hip ratio together with obese rate should be included in selective programs to identify risk group of children in Korea. furthermore, interventions in cardiovascular disease risk groups in obese children should emphasize maintenance of ideal body weight through reducing body fat and adopting desirable dietary behaviors such as increasing intake of fish or bean products. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of hypertension and its risk factors among community dwelling aged 65 and over in South Korea. Methods: A total of 1,367 subjects from the 2010 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) were selected. The data analysis was conducted by SPSS WIN 19.0 using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, and logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of hypertension was found to be 47.70%. Logistic regression analysis shows that hypertension was more prevalent as people became older; in females; in elderly who were not employed as compared to those employed; elderly with diabetes, and obesity as compared to those without these health conditions; as elderly who performed more moderate intensity exercise. While, education, household income, high risk alcoholic drinking, smoking, stress perception, usual activity, and eating out behavior were not associated with prevalence of hypertension in this study. Conclusion: The finding of prevalence of hypertension and its risk factors is expected to promote the screening or prevention strategy for community dwelling aged 65 and over at risk of hypertension in Korea.
Korean foods have the strengths to addresssome of the health problems of modern man. To assess the properties of Korean noodles, daily value %, DVS, DDS and energy density were compared between many kinds of noodles from around the world. Using a variety of reference materials, a nutritional database of noodles was built for this study. For carbohydrate, lipid, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, niacin, zinc, and copper, the daily values % of western noodles were significantly higher. Also, the serving size of Korean noodles was significantly small. Comparing the average energy density of the noodles, they showed $1.87{\pm}0.93kcal/g$ (Korean noodles), $2.42{\pm}1.08kcal/g$ (western noodles) and $1.84{\pm}0.84kcal/g$ (other noodles). The dietary fiber, polyphenols, and flavonoids content of the noodles showed no significant difference. Neither DVS nor DDS showed a statistically significant difference. In the Korean noodles, the GMDFV pattern showed a diverse choice of food groups. Korean noodles show a lower energy density, and the small serving size to have favorable for the prevention of obesity. Thus, Korean noodles are an excellent choice in terms of diversity and energy density.
The purpose of this study is to identify awareness of hypertension prevalence among Korean youth and related causes. Data from the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey, conducted in 2016 by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, were used to apply weights for complex sample analysis. A total of 1,075 data age 19~35 Korean youth were used for analysis. The analysis demonstrated that 25.7% of age 19~35 Korean youth were in the prehypertension stage and 6.1% were in the hypertension stage. Those aware of hypertension was 0.3%. This revelation necessitates establishment of preventive measures by way of physical examination among youth to ensure no youth are left untreated in terms of health management. This study indicated that diabetes affects hypertension significantly among males (p<0.0001), with low income (p=0.034) and obesity (p<0.0001). Consequently, they should be managed as high-risk, and it is imperative to educate them about changes in lifestyle such as walking or less dining-out, rather than engaging in specific sports activities or nutrient intake.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between health behaviors and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among vulnerable children in a community. Methods: Using data from 'The Obesity Prevention Framework for Vulnerable Children', a secondary analysis was conducted for 165 children (ages 8~12 years) and their parents who were recruited from 16 K-gu Community Child Centers in Seoul. Six types of health behaviors related to eating and activity were assessed. Each behavior was categorized into the non-recommended vs. recommended levels. The scores of the recommended levels of the six health behaviors were summed up for the composite score of health behaviors. HRQOL was measured by KIDSCREEN-52. Results: The groups with a non-recommended level of fast food intake and sedentary behavior had a significantly lower total score of KIDSCREEN-52 than those with a recommended level. Moreover, the lower composite score of health behaviors was significantly associated with the lower total score of KIDSCREEN-52. Conclusion: Among the vulnerable children, the six recommended health behaviors and their composite score were in significant positive associations with the HRQOL levels. Therefore, nursing strategies for enhancing the recommended levels of health behaviors are needed for vulnerable children.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the drinking, stress, and sleep on depression of Korean obese women. Methods: The data of this study were derived from the Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI-3), conducted from January to December 2015 by Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study subjects were 935 adult women between 20 and 70 years old (Body Mass Index${\geq}25$). The data were analyzed by the complex sampling design method applying the weights to the IBM SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The study result showed that the frequency of binge drinking, stress perception, sleeping time and depression of Korean obese women showed significant differences according to age group. In the 20-30's, the stress and sleeping time, the 40-50's were drinking at once, the frequency of drinking and stress, and the drinking and stress at 60-70's were significantly associated with an increased risk of depression in obese women. Conclusion: The intervention program for the management of depression in Korean obese women should include the strategies for managing stress and drinking, taking into account differences according to age.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate prevalence and factors influencing constipation in school age children in order to help prevent and manage this problem. Methods: The participants were 618 elementary school students (4th, 5th, and 6th grade) selected from five elementary schools. Data were gathered using questionnaires and analyzed using $x^2$ test, independent t-test and binary logistic regression with the PASW 18.0 program. Results: The prevalence of constipation was 15.2% for these school age children. Factors influencing constipation in this population were high stress (OR: 5.77), daily intake of meat (OR: 5.42), more than 3 hours using the internet (OR: 4.50), more than 3 hours of private academy classes (OR: 2.83), obesity (OR: 2.34), and negative perceptions of school toilet environment (OR: 2.26). Conclusion: Psychological factors and physical activities have an important effect on constipation in school age children. Thus, there is a need to educate both children and their parents on prevention of constipation by decreasing stress, decreasing meat intake, increasing active movement and increasing positive perception of school toilet environment.

Recently, the prevalence rate of diabetes in Korea has been increasing rapidly due to high growth of economy and changes in dietary lifestyle. Vascular complication is one of diabetic complications which have frequently occurred by obesity, hyperglycemia and impaired glucose metabolism. Photoplethysmogram(PPG) measured from finger and toe is very useful for evaluation of vascular aging and sclerosis level since the PPG signal represents characteristics of peripheral vascular. Several researchers have reported that second derivative of the finger PPG waveform was useful to evaluate vascular compliance and developed various analysis methods for vascular compliance. However, peripheral vascular compliance study for diabetic patient was never evaluated by using second derivative of PPG. Therefore, we aimed to objectively compare and to assess normal and diabetic group vascular compliance using the second derivative of PPG waveform in this study. The evaluated factors of second derivative of PPG are 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e' and b/a represents vascular compliance. Study found out that when vascular compliance is decreased, b/a is increased, the absolute value of b/a is decreased. The average vascular compliance of 50 diabetic patients with neuropathy is statistically lower than the normal group(p<0.05). We suggest an objective evaluation of peripheral vascular compliance for diabetic patients and prevention of vascular complication.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was secondary analysis to explore about risk factors with breast cancer on a basis of primary literature. Methods: This study was searched articles by using CINAHL, MEDLINE, Riss4u, Internet website regarding breast cancer. This study searched for the journal published in Korea and foreign countries from 2000 to 2008, about risk factors of breast cancer. This study was reviewed 42 articles (5 experimental study, 35 survey, 1 qualitative study, 1 report) suitable for the research objectives. Results: Magnitude of risk breast cancer (++) was age, geographic region, family history, mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2 genes and in other penetrance genes, radiation, history of benign breast disease, late age of menopause, early age of menarch, nulliparity and older age at first birth, high mammographic breast density, high insulin-like growth factor 1 level. Magnitude of risk factor (+) was hormone replacement therapy, oral contraceptives use, obesity, tall stature, alcohol consumption, high prolactin level, high saturated fat and well-done meat intake, polymorphisms in low penetrance gene, high socioeconomic status. Conclusion: A breast cancer screening protocol according to magnitude of risk factors is needed for disease prevention. The nurses need to educate and counsel women with risk factors of breast cancer.
In the present highly changing era, every dimension from Technology to Education, Environment to Sanitation and from Agriculture to our Food basket is getting changed. Our experiences say that the most affected ethnic group from this rapidly changing pattern of our food intake, lifestyle are our adolescent. This is also a fact that our adolescent passes their 2/3 of time of a day in their schools. In this regard our school system needs to formulate their comprehensive approach to Health for our adolescents. On other hand Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of Medicine had expressed views on a concept of Holistic Health thousand years ago. This research article is an attempt of borrowing this valuable concept from Ayurveda and suggesting to introduce them into our comprehensive school health programme such as concept of wellness, quality of life, Holistic Health and measures related to diet and lifestyle for preservation, promotion of health and prevention of disorders etc. This manuscript also evaluates the existing approaches of school health programmes towards current scenario. Now a day's our food habits, dietary intake and the life style are not at the level of satisfactory condition this lead to early onset of metabolic chronic disorder especially in our adolescents because on the basis of age-immunity relationship they are easily targeted. The chronic metabolic disorders results into overweight, obesity, anxiety, mental trauma, distress, over- fatigued, incapable for physical work, getting tired soon. This article provides a space to rethink and reformulate our school health programmes in light of our ancient tradition of medicine.
