  • The error analysis for the Time-in-Flight Laser Range Finder with Multiple Tone Amplitude Modulation relevant to the phase detection error is made. The distance can be estimated to solve the formulate which express the relationship between the absolute distance from the range finder to the object and the wavenumbers and the phases of the modulated waves by the optimization technique. The main cause of the estimation error can be considered as the phase detection error induced from the amplitude modulator and the phase detector. To clarify the phase detection error and the optimal amplitude frequency set, the numerical analysis are made.

  • In this paper, we propose a new gate modification method using the input vector maximizes the number of gates in WLS within the optimum range of the minimum leakage power. We prove that MLV is not always the optimal solution, and that the leakage power and area can decrease when modifying the gates using the input vector for which the number of gates in WLS is maximized within the optimum range of the minimum leakage power for the circuits applying the IVC technique and gate modification method. Using the proposed method, the gate-level description circuit can be converted to the modified circuit which reduces the leakage power by chip designer, and the modified circuit can be applied without any modification in design flow.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks "WSN" can be implemented in a wide range of applications. Some of these have unpredictable behavior, such as disaster or intrusion monitoring. Sudden large bursting amounts of data can increase traffic and degrade the WSN's performance as well as energy resources. In this work we propose an adjustment of radio transmission range where more or less nodes can be part of the neighborhood area and collaborate in retransmission. As simulation results prove, such adjustment based on traffic can benefit to balance network lifetime.

  • This paper describes work on isolation of vibration related engine by a hydraulic engine mount with controllable area of inertia track. Automotive engine mounts are required to constrain motion of engine shake resulting from low-frequency road input of shock excitation and also to isolate noise and vibration generated by the engine with unbalanced disturbance at the high frequency range. The property of the mount depends on vibration amplitude and excitation frequency, which means that the excitation amplitude is large in low excitation frequency range and small in high frequency range. In this paper, theoretical works with model of the mount to reduce vibrations related engine were conducted. The volumetric stiffness of the mount is greatly changed according to the switching the area of the inertia track. Therefore, when the area of the inertia track is tuned, the transmissibility of the mount is effectively reduced.

  • A new method for the 3D automatic registration of the multiple range images has been developed for the 3D scanners(non-contact coordinates measurement systems). In the existing methods, the user usually has to input more than 3 pairs of corresponding points for the iterative registration process. The major difficulty of the existing systems lies in that the input corresponding points must be selected very carefully because the optimal searching process and the registration results mostly depend upon the accuracy of the selected points. In the proposed method, this kind of difficulty is greatly mitigated even though it needs only 2 pairs of the corresponding input points. Several registration examples on the 3D measured data have been presented and discussed with the introduction to the proposed algorithm.

  • The paper is proposed intantaneous torque control of IPMSM for drive of wide speed range. The control scheme is based on the mathematical model of the motor and is applicable to the constant torque and field weakening operations The scheme allows the motor to be driven with maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) characteristic below base speed and it maintains the maximum voltage limit of the motor wide field weakening and the motor current limit under all conditions of operation accurately. For each control mode. a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $i_d$ for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to PMSM drive system for drive of wide speed range, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.

  • The range image is divided into surface regions which are homogeneous in their intrinsic properties. In this paper, we use cooperative relaxational algorithm between curvatures to escape local minima and choose optimal possibility to reserve edge. Cooperative relaxational algorithm between curvatures is relaxation process in which weights of center pixel;s and neighbor pixel's possiblility are determined adaptively by using deviation of curvatures. Experimental resutls show that the proposed method segments and classifies the range images more accurately compared to the other relational algorithms.

  • In this paper, for the purpose of providing high data rate services, the multi-hop frame structure is designed for the underwater acoustic (UWA) short-range system which is proposed as a part of ocean surveillance and tracking network (OSTN). Under the measured underwater channel environment, the link-level system performance are also evaluated. Simulation results show not only the packet error rate (PER) comparisons, but the optimal modulation and coding scheme (MCS) levels for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based short-range UWA communications network.

  • Lever mechanisms are usually employed to enlarge output displacements in precision stages. In this study, theoretical analysis is done for a precision stage employing a lever and flexure hinges, including bending effect. This study presented relations between design parameters and magnification ratio. This study presents optimal values for the parameters to achieve a longer stage displacement. The analysis is verified by finite element analysis. It is found that adjusting stiffnesses can increase the travel range significantly.

  • Optical observation system provides angle-only measurement for orbit determination of space object. Range measurement can be directly acquired using laser ranging or tone ranging system. Initial orbit determination (IOD) by using angle- only data set shows discrepancy according to the measurement time interval. To solve this problem, range measurement data should be added for IOD. In this study, two-site optical observation was used to derive the range information. We have observed nine geostationary earth orbit satellites by using two-site optical observation system. The determination result of the range shows the accuracy over 99.5% compared to the results from the satellite tool kit simulation. And we confirmed that the orbit determination by the Herrick-Gibbs method with the range information obtained from the two-site observation is more accurate than the orbit determination by Gauss method with the one-site observation. For more accurate two-site optical observation, a baseline should satisfy an optimal condition of length and more precise observation system needed.
