  • The on-line calculation method is developed to obtain the temperature trajectory that brings the reactants to the desired state in batch styrene polymerization reactor. The temperature trajectory is obtained by applying the moments of the polymer concentration to the 2-step calculation method. The computer simulation is also carried out to verify the superiority of the on-line method to the off-line one. When a temperature disturbance of constant size is introduced, the off-line results shows considerable deviation from the target degree of polymerization. The on-line strategy set up a new trajectory to reach the desired state by using the current state of the reactor. Therefore, the on-line strategy deals with the changes of the system more adequately than the off-line strategy.

  • We propose a new method to extract valid lines from a visual image. Unsupervised clustering method is used to assign each line to any of the line groups according to its orientation. During the low-level image processing we use an adaptive threshold method to reduce human supervision and to automate the processing sequence. To reduce the misclassification rate and to suppress the superiors line support regions at the clustering stage, the adaptive threshold method is consistently applied. Performing principal component analysis on each line support region provides an efficient method of obtaining line equation. Finally we adopt the theory of robust statistics to guarantee the quality of each extracted line and to eliminate the lines of poor quality. We present the experimental results to verify our method. With the proposed method, one can extract the lines according to the internal orientation similarities and integrate the whole process into one adaptive procedure.

  • AVR parameter tuning for voltage control of generators has generally been done with the off-line open-circuit model of the synchronous generator. When the generator is connected on-line and operating with load the AVR operates in an entirely different environment from the open-circuit conditions. This paper describes a new method for AVR parameter tuning for on line conditions using SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) meshed with frequency response characteristics of linearized on-line system model. As the proposed method uses the un - line system model the tuned parameter sets show more optimal behavior in the on-line operating conditions. furthermore, as this method considers the performance indices that are needed for stable operation as constraints, AVR parameter sets that are tuned by this method could guarantee the stable performance, too.

  • In this paper, an on-line process scheme is presented for implementation of a intelligent on-line modeling of nonlinear complex system. The proposed on-line process scheme is composed of FNN-based model algorithm and PLC-based simulator, Here, an adaptive fuzzy-neural networks and HCM(Hard C-Means) clustering method are used as an intelligent identification algorithm for on-line modeling. The adaptive fuzzy-neural networks consists of two distinct modifiable sturctures such as the premise and the consequence part. The parameters of two structures are adapted by a combined hybrid learning algorithm of gradient decent method and least square method. Also we design an interface S/W between PLC(Proguammable Logic Controller) and main PC computer, and construct a monitoring and control simulator for real process system. Accordingly the on-line identification algorithm and interface S/W are used to obtain the on-line FNN model structure and to accomplish the on-line modeling. And using some I/O data gathered partly in the field(plant), computer simulation is carried out to evaluate the performance of FNN model structure generated by the on-line identification algorithm. This simulation results show that the proposed technique can produce the optimal fuzzy model with higher accuracy and feasibility than other works achieved previously.

  • Since the characteristic frequency is decreased in proportion to the fault distance, the characteristic frequency component may be insufficiently eliminated by a low-pass filter on a long transmission line. In order to set a standard for the cut-off frequency of the low-pass filter, this paper proposes a method for obtaining the characteristic frequencies due to line faults. The application results of the proposed method are presented for line to ground (LG) faults and line to line (LL) faults on a 345 kV 200 km overhead transmission line. The EMTP is used to generate fault signals under different fault locations and fault inception angles. By comparison between the characteristic frequencies obtained from the proposed method and the EMTP simulation, it is shown that the proposed method accurately obtains the characteristic frequency.

  • As a truly meshfree method, meshless equilibrium on line method (MELM), for 2D elasticity problems is presented. In MELM, the problem domain is represented by a set of distributed nodes, and equilibrium is satisfied on lines for any node within this domain. In contrary to conventional meshfree methods, test domains are lines in this method, and all integrals can be easily evaluated over straight lines along x and y directions. Proposed weak formulation has the same concept as the equilibrium on line method which was previously used by the authors for enforcement of the Neumann boundary conditions in the strong-form meshless methods. In this paper, the idea of the equilibrium on line method is developed to use as the weak forms of the governing equations at inner nodes of the problem domain. The moving least squares (MLS) approximation is used to interpolate solution variables in this paper. Numerical studies have shown that this method is simple to implement, while leading to accurate results.

  • Dynamic analysis of a transmission line which is compensated by a FACTS device such as STATCOM, SSSC and UPFC is carried out in this paper and the impacts on conventional line protection methods such as the DCPM (Differential Current Protection Method) and the DPM (Distance Protection Method) are reviewed. A refined DCRM is proposed to detect faults properly regardless of the FACTS operation. The proposed method is applied to a FACTS-compensated line with a variety of faults and is verified by simulation results. An adaptive DPM on a FACTS-compensated line was proposed previously in the literature. In order to emphasize the necessity of the modified DPM, the conventional DPM is applied to a FACTS-compensated system. Significant factors such as fault types, fault locations, and fault resistances as well as FACTS device types are considered for relaying setting.

  • In this paper, we are concerned with a 3D line segment extraction method by area-based stereo matching technique. The main idea is based on line fitting of elevation data on 2D line coordinates of ortho-image. Elevation data and ortho-image can be obtained by well-known area-based stereo matching technique. In order to use elevation in line fitting, the elevation itself should be reliable. To measure the reliability of elevation, in this paper, we employ the concept of self-consistency. We test the effectiveness of the proposed method with a quantitative accuracy analysis using synthetic images generated from Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images. Experimental results indicate that our method generates 3D line segments almost 7.5 times more accurate than raw elevations obtained by area-based method.

  • In this paper, a new edge detection method for area images is presented based on the scan-line image segmentation technology. The existing algorithms are lack of precision in its detections due to the noise factors such as depth perception and illumination problems when processing the 3D image into a 2D image. The general process of applying the scan-line method is to extract straight line components to determine the shape of the objects. However, we implement this method to an arc curve for precise detections. the paper proved precise detections that from off line to on line.

  • This paper proposes a robust on-line fault detection method for uncertain systems. It is based on the fault detection method [10] accounting for modelling errors, which is shown to have superior performance over traditional methods but has some computational problems so that it is hard to be applied to on-line problems. The proposed method in this paper is an on-line version of the fault detection method suggested in [10]. Thus the method has the same detection performance robust to model uncertainties as that of [10]. Moreover, its computational burden is shown to be considerably lessened so that it is applicable to on-line fault detection problems.
