REFLECTANCE-COLOR TRENDS ON THE LUNAR MARE SURFACE

  • The lunar surface progressively darkens and reddens as a result of sputtering from solar wind particles and bombardment of micrometeoroids. The extent of exposure to these space weathering agents is frequently calculated as the location in a diagram of reflectance at 750 nm vs. 950 nm/750 nm color (R-C). Sim & Kim (2018) examined the R-C trends of pixels within ~3,500 craters, and revealed that the length (L) and skewness (s) of R-C trends can be employed as a secondary age or maturity indicator. We broaden this research to general lunar surface areas (3,400 tiles of 0.25° × 0.25° size) in 218 mare basalt units, whose ages have been derived from the size-frequency distribution analysis by Hiesinger et al. (2011). We discover that L and s rise with age until ~3.2 Gyr and reduce rather rapidly afterward, while the optical maturity, OMAT, reduces monotonically with time. We show that in some situations, when not only OMAT but also L and s are incorporated in the estimation utilizing 750 & 950 nm photometry, the age estimation becomes considerably more reliable. We also observed that OMAT and the lunar cratering chronology function (cumulative number of craters larger than a certain diameter as a function of time) have a relatively linear relationship.

Maturity of the Crater Rim Walls as a function of the Crater Size

  • Space weathering agents such as micrometeoroids and solar wind particles continuously age the uppermost regolith of the lunar surface by comminuting as well as darkening and reddening. Among several maturity indices, we investigate median grain size () and optical maturity (OMAT) of the crater rim walls. Crater rim wall is the most immature place among the impact crater features because the vertical mixing process by mass-movement can enhance the gardening of regolith and the supply of immature materials in the deeper layer to the surface. More than 140 simple and complex craters were considered. Both and OMAT values of the inner rim wall initially increase as the crater size increases until ~10-20 km, then decrease. This transition crater size happens to correspond to the transition diameter from simple to complex craters. For larger craters, i.e., complex craters, it is clear that the inner rim wall of the craters formed in recent eras tend to remain fresh and become mature along with time. For the simple crater case, smaller craters are more mature, which is opposite to the case of complex craters. This is thought to be because smaller craters become flattened more quickly, thus have smaller vertical mixing in the regolith due to mass-movement. We will also discuss on the maturity indices of the crater rim walls at high latitudes as a function of the position angle to see the latitude dependence of the space weathering process.

  • 달은 global magnetic fields가 존재하지 않으나, 달 표면에 국지적으로 자기장이 존재하며 이러한 현상의 원인은 계속 연구중이다. 달의 자기이상 현상이 나타나는 지역 중 광학적으로 밝고 어두운 패턴이 관측되는 지역을 Swirl이라한다. Mare Crisium ($17.18^{\circ}N$, $59.1^{\circ}E$)은 표면에 2개의 자기이상 지역과 광학적으로 밝은 지역들이 존재하지만, Swirl로 잘 알려진 Reiner Gamma와 같은 지역의 광학적 밝기와 패턴의 차이가 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 Lunar Prospector (LP) 위성의 magnetometer (MAG) 자료를 이용하여 자기장 분포에 관한 연구 및 Clementine 위성의 UV/VIS 영상자료를 이용하여 광학적 특성 연구를 진행하였다. LP의 MAG 자료는 Mare Cirisium지역의 22.3 km 고도에서 관측된 744개의 자료를 활용하였으며, Clementine의 영상자료는 750 nm, 950 nm의 반사도에 따른 Optical Maturity (OMAT)를 활용하였다. Mare Crisium의 북쪽지역은 자기이상 현상과 OMAT의 고유특성이 동시에 나타나며 이는 swirl과 유사하다. 특히, Mare Cirisum서쪽에 있는 Proclus crater 잔해 일부가 Mare Crisium의 북쪽지역까지 퍼져있어 이와 관련하여 자기장 존재여부에 따른 광학적 특성의 차이점을 조사하였다. 본 논문에서는 Mare Crisium 지역의 Swirl 진위여부를 추론하며, 본 논문에서 이용한 방법의 유용성에 대하여 검증하고자 한다.

Effect of Transverse Magnetic Field on Dose Distribution of High Energy Electron Beam (횡방향 자기장이 고에너지 전자선의 선량분포에 미치는 영향)

  • In this work we have measured the dose distribution and the percent depth dose of 20 MeV electron beam using the X-OMAT films in order to verify the effects of transverse magnetic field on high energy elecrtron beam in a phantom. The result shows about 30% increase of the percent depth dose at 4.5 cm depth under the transverse magnetic field of 1.5 Tesla at 7.5 cm depth. We have verified that these were in an agreement with other theoretical results.

Regional Differences of Proteins Expressing in Adipose Depots Isolated from Cows, Steers and Bulls as Identified by a Proteomic Approach

  • Adipose tissue in the loin muscle area of beef cattle as a marbling factor is directly associated with beef quality. To elucidate whether properties of proteins involved in depot specific adipose tissue were sex-dependent, we analyzed protein expression of intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) and omental adipose tissue (OMAT) from Hanwoo cows, steers, and bulls of Korean native beef cattle by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based proteomic analysis, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blot analysis. Two different adipose depots (i.e. intramuscular and omental) were collected from cows (n = 7), steers (n = 7), or bulls (n = 7). LC-MS/MS revealed a total of 55 and 35 proteins in IMAT and OMAT, respectively. Of the 55 proteins identified, 44, 40, and 42 proteins were confirmed to be differentially expressed in IMAT of cows, steers, and bulls, respectively. In OMAT of cows, steers, and bulls, 33, 33, and 22 were confirmed to be differentially expressed, respectively. Tropomyosin (TPM) 1, TPM 2, and TPM3 were subjected to verification by quantitative PCR and western blot analysis in IMAT and OMAT of Hanwoo cows, steers, and bulls as key factors closely associated with muscle development. Both mRNA levels and protein levels of TPM1, TPM2, and TPM3 in IMAT were lower in bulls compared to in cows or steers suggesting that they were positively correlated with marbling score and quality grade. Our results may aid the regulation of marbling development and improvement of meat quality grades in beef cattle.

Dose Characteristics by the Co-60 Source Oscillations in High Dose Rate After Loading Irradiations (고선량율 원격강내조사의 코발트-60 이동선원에 의한 선량특성)

  • Dose distributions around Co- 60 moving source in high dose rate remote afterloading unit, Buchler 3K unit, were experimented with X-omat V films and calculations. In our experiments, film dosimetries have achieved to evaluated the axial dose distributions for source oscillations were 0, 3.5, 5.0 and 6.0 cm in periodically, In results, the dose distributions in axial of source movement showed apparently higher than in transverse direction caused by source locations, dwelling time and air gap in the applicator. In the calculations, the dose rate was derived by using the inverse square law, filteration corrections and Meisberger constant for scatter corrections as source movings. In our experiments and calculations, the average dose uncertainties were showed -2.1$\pm$1.9% in fixed sourdce, -2.9$\pm$1.8%, -7.4$\pm$6.1% and -6.7$\pm$4.6% at 3.5 cm, 5.0 cm and 6.0 cm source oscillations, but the calculations have showed very close to experimental dose rate within 4 cm distance from source.

구동 팬톰 시스템을 통한 내부 장기 움직임의 선량 평가

  • 본 연구의 목적은 호흡 운동에 영향을 받는 내부 장기의 움직임을 정량적으로 분석하고, 그 결과를 토대로 움직이는 내부 장기의 선량 분포를 측정하고 평가하는 것이다. 그리고 이전에 보고된 논문에서 개발된 움직임 감소 장치의 사용 유무에 따른 내부 장기의 선량 분포 또한 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 1차원적으로 움직이는 구동 팬톰 시스템을 개발하였고, 6MV X-ray에서 Kodak X-omat V 필름을 사용하여 움직이는 내부 장기의 선량분포를 실험적으로 측정하였다. 이 결과로부터 호흡 운동으로 인한 움직이는 내부 장기 및 종양에 조사되는 선량의 부정확도를 평가할 수 있었고, 움직임 감소 장치를 사용했을 때 선량의 부정확도가 감소함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Customer Acceptance Procedure for Clinac (21EX-Platinum)

  • Purpose : For qualify improvement in radiotherapy, it is important to set up and evaluate equipment (linac) accurately. In addition, technicians are needed to be fully aware of the equipment's detailed quality and its manual. Therefore, the result of ATP is evaluated and introduced, in order that the technicians are skilled by participating in quality assurance (QA) and understanding the quality of the equipment before clinical use. Method and Material : QA for LINAC 21EX (Varian, US) was done with suppliers its procedure was divided into radiation survey, mechanical test, radiation isocenter test, bean performance, dosimetry, and enhanced dynamic wedge and using X-omat film (Kodak), multidata, densitometer, and electrometer. QA of MLC (Millennium, 120 leaf) attached to LINAC and EPID (Portal vision) were done separately. Result : The leakage dose by survey meter was below the tolerance. In mechanical test, collimater, gantry, and couch rotation were less than 1mm, and the angles were ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}$ for digital and ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$ for mechanical. The alignment test of the light field and crosshair were evaluated less than 1mm. The (a)symmetrical jaw field was less than ${\pm}0.5mm$. The radiation isocenter test using X-mat film was less than 1mm. The consistency of light field and radiation field was less than ${\pm}0.1mm$. PDD for photon energy was less than ${\pm}1\%$ and for electron energy of $90\%,\;80\%,\;50\%,\;and\;30\%$ were evaluated within the tolerance. Flatness for photon and electron energy was evaluated $2.3\%$ (tolerance $3\%$) and $3\%$ (tolerance $4.5\%$), respectively, and symmetry was $0.45\%$ (tolerance $2\%$) and $0.3\%$ (tolerance $2\%$), respectively. Dosimetry test for short term, MU setting, rep rate, and dose rate accuracy of photon and electron energy was within the tolerance depending on energy, MU, and gantry angle. Conclusion : Accuracy and safety for clinical use of Clinac 21EX was verified through customer acceptance procedure and the quality of the equipment was found out. These can reduce the difficulties in using the equipment. Furthermore, it is useful for clinically treatment of patients by technicians' active participations.

INDEPENDENT JAW를 이용한 인접한 HALF BEAM 조사야 경계에서 조작방법과 조작자에 따른 선량오차의 경향

  • I. 목적 : Half beam을 이용하여 인접한 조사면 치료시, 경계부위에서 발생할 수 있는 Jaw Position에 의한 기하학적 오차는 정확한 선량전달에 문제를 일으킨다. 이에 본 저자는 QA용 필름을 이용하여 조사면 setting 방법과 조작자간의 오차를 분석하고 이를 최소화할 수 있는 방법을 찾고자 한다. II. 대상 및 방법 : 본 실험은 6MV선(CL2100C, Varian, USA)을 대상으로 하였으며, 폴리스틸렌팬톰($25{\times}25cm2$)을 SSD 100 cm으로 고정한 후, 측정용 필름(X-omat V2, Kodak, USA)을 5 cm 깊이에 위치 시켜 조사면의 중심에서 경계를 이루는 비대칭 조사면 ($0/7.5{\times}15,7.5/0{\times}15 cm$)을 쌍으로 조사하였다. 조사된 필름은 자동현상기를 이용하여 현상한 후 농도계(Densitometer, Multidata, USA)를 이용하여 중심축상에서의 농도분포를 측정하여 인접한 조사면에서의 오차를 분석하였다. 조작방법과 조작자간의 오차를 분석하기 위하여 5명의 방사선사를 대상으로 auto및 manual set-up을 실시하였고 각 방법의 평균 오차를 분석하기 위해 5회 반복하였다. III. 결과 : 필름 농도곡선을 이용하여 두 조사면이 만나는 경계에서의 오차를 분석한 결과, remote console set-up의 경우 주변 조사면에 비해 $-0.16{\pm}3.44\%$, pendant방식에서는 $+5.04{\pm}4.37\%$로 나타났고, 조작자간의 유의성이 관찰되었다. IV. 결론 : 비대칭 조사면을 이용한 근접 조사면의 치료시 pendant 방식보다 remote console 방식에서 오차가 적 게 나타나므로 Auto set-up 기능의 이용은 치료시에 조사면 경계에서의 선량 오차를 최소한으로 줄이는데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다. 또한 manual 방식으로 set-up 시 오차의 편차가 크게 나타나므로 치료시에 세심한 주의가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
