  • Solvolyses of isobutyl chloroformate (4) in 43 binary solvent mixtures including highly aqueous media, water, $D_2O$, $CH_3OD$, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) as well as aqueous 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-isopropanol (HFIP) solvents were performed at $45^{\circ}C$, in order to further investigate the recent results of D'Souza, M. $J^1$. et al.; solvolyses of 4 are found to be consistent with the proposed mechanism ($Ad_E$). The variety of solvent systems was extended to comprise highly ionizing power solvent media ($Y_{Cl}$ > 2.7 excepted for aqueous fluorinated solvents and pure TFE solvent) to investigate whether a mechanistic change occurs as solvent compositions are varied. However, in case of 18-solvent ranges having aqueous fluorinated solvent systems (TFE-$H_2O$ and HFIP-$H_2O$) and/or having $Y_{Cl}$ > 2.7 solvent systems, the solvent effect on reactivity for those of 4 are evaluated by the multiple regression analysis as competition with $S_N2$ - type mechanism. And in pure TFE and 97 w/w % HFIP solvents with high $Y_{Cl}$ and weak $N_T$, these solvolyses are understood as reactions which proceed through an ionization ($S_N1$) pathway.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of 2.45GHz Low-IF Mixer using CMOS 0.18um. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique, and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. And the design of this Double Balance Mixer is based on its lineaity since it is important in the interference cancellation system. The low flicker noise mixer is implemented by incorporating a double balanced Gilber-type configuration, the RF leakage-less current bleeding technique, and Cp resonating technique. The proposed mixer has a simulated conversion gain of 16dB a simulated IIP3 of -3.3dBm and P1dB is -19dBm. A simulated noise figure of 6.9dB at l0MHz and a flicker corner frequency of 510kHz while consuming only 10.65mW od DC power. The layout of Mixer for one-chip design in a 0.18-um TSMC process has 0.474mm$\times$0.39 mm size.

  • The excited state intramolecular proton transfer and physical properties of 7-hydroxyquinoline are studied in various solutions and heterogeneous systems by measuring steady state and time-resolved fluorescence, reflection and NMR spectra. Proton transfer is observed only in protic solvents owing to its requirement of hydrogen-bonded solvent bridge for proton relay transfer. The activation energies of the proton transfer are 2.3 and 5.4 kJ/mol in $CH_3OH$ and in $CH_3OD$, respectively. Dimers of normal molecules are stable in microcrystalline powder form and undergo an extremely fast concerted double proton transfer upon absorption of a photon, consequently forming dimers of tautomer molecules. In the supercage of zeolite NaY, its tautomeric form is stable in the ground state and does not show any proton transfer.

  • Plant phenotype is affected by a community of associated microorganisms which requires dissection of the functional fraction. In this study, we aimed to culture the functionally active fraction of an upland soil microbiome, which can suppress tomato bacterial wilt. The microbiome fraction (MF) from the rhizosphere of Hawaii 7996 treated with an upland soil or forest soil MF was successively cultured in a designed modified M9 (MM9) medium partially mimicking the nutrient composition of tomato root exudates. Bacterial cells were harvested to amplify V3 and V4 regions of 16S rRNA gene for QIIME based sequence analysis and were also treated to Hawaii 7996 prior to Ralstonia solanacearum inoculation. The disease progress indicated that the upland MM9 $1^{st}$ transfer suppressed the bacterial wilt. Community analysis revealed that species richness was declined by successive cultivation of the MF. The upland MM9 $1^{st}$ transfer harbored population of phylum Proteobacteria (98.12%), Bacteriodetes (0.69%), Firmicutes (0.51%), Actinobacteria (0.08%), unidentified (0.54%), Cyanobacteria (0.01%), FBP (0.001%), OD1 (0.001%), Acidobacteria (0.005%). The family Enterobacteriaceae of Proteobacteria was the dominant member (86.76%) of the total population of which genus Enterobacter composed 86.76% making it a potential candidate to suppress bacterial wilt. The results suggest that this mixed culture approach is feasible to harvest microorganisms which may function as biocontrol agents.

  • The fuel rod performance has great importance for the safety and economy of an operating reactor. The fuel rod performance analysis code, which considers the thermal-mechanical response and irradiation effects of fuel rod, is usually developed in order to predict fuel rod performance accurately. The FRIPAC (${\underline{F}}uel$ ${\underline{R}}od$ ${\underline{I}}ntegral$ ${\underline{P}}erformance$ ${\underline{A}}nalysis$ ${\underline{C}}ode$) is such a fuel rod performance analysis code that has been developed recently by China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute Co. Ltd. The code aims at the computational simulation of the Pressurized Water Reactor fuel rod behavior for both steady-state and power ramp condition. A brief overview of FRIPAC is presented including the computational framework and the main behavioral models. Validation of the code is also presented and it focuses on the fuel rod behavior including fuel center temperature, fission gas release, rod internal pressure/internal void volume, cladding outer diameter and cladding corrosion thickness. The validation is based on experimental data from several international projects. The validation results indicate that FRIPAC is an accurate and reliable fuel rod performance analysis code because of the satisfactory comparison results between the experimental measurements and the code predictions.

  • Ethanol extracted propolis (EEP) was mixed with honey (honeypolis) to dissolve well in water and in vitro skin irritation test was conducted. In vitro method is designed to predict and classify the skin irritation potential of a chemical by assessment of its effect on $EpiDerm^{TM}$, a reconstituted three-dimensional human epidermis model. Cytotoxicity is expressed as the reduction of mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity measured by formazan production from MTT after a 60 min exposure period. In this study under the given conditions honeypolis showed no irritant effects. Honeypolis meets acceptance criteria if: mean absolute OD 570 nm of the three negative control tissues is ${\geq}0.8$ and ${\leq}2.8$, mean relative tissue viability of the three positive control tissues is ${\leq}20%$, standard deviation of relative tissue viability obtained from each three concurrently tested tissues is ${\leq}18%$. Honeypolis is therefore classified as "non-irritant" in accordance with UN GHS "No Category".

  • Immunoglobulin M (IgM) of sevenband grouper (Epinephelus septemfasciatus) was purified by mannan-binding protein (MBP) affinity column. The purified IgM had an apparent molecular weights of 76 (heavy chain) and 28 (light chain) kDa in sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Eight hybridoma clones secreting monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against sevenband grouper IgM were established. Antibody detection enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with bovine serum albumin (BSA, antigen) and the 8 mAbs revealed that optical density (OD) values were clearly different between sera from BSA-immunization and non-immunization of sevenband grouper. These results suggest that the produced mAbs in this study are specifically reacted with IgM of sevenband grouper.

  • The cucurbit powdery mildew (CPM) caused by different fungal species is a major concern for cucurbit crops around the world. In Argentina CPM constitutes the most common and damaging disease for cucurbits, especially for squash crops (Cucurbita moschata). The present study displays initial insights into the knowledge of the disease in western Argentina, including the determination of the prevalent species causing CPM, as well as the evaluation of the resistance of squash cultivars and breeding lines. Fungal colonies were isolated from samples collected in Mendoza province, Argentina. A field trial was also performed to assess the resistance of five squash accessions, including commercial cultivars and breeding lines. The severity of CPM was analyzed and epidemiological models were built based on empirical data. The morphological determinations and analysis with specific molecular markers confirmed Podosphaera xanthi as the prevalent causal agent of CPM in Mendoza. The results od the field trial showed differences in the resistance trait among the squash accessions. The advanced breeding line BL717/1 showed promising results as source of CPM resistance for the future development of open pollinated resistant cultivars, a crucial tool for an integrative control of the disease.

  • Considering the greater role of α-amino acids in our daily lives, the enantiomer resolution of seven α-amino acids derivatized with fluorogenic reagent (4-fluoro-7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole, NBD-F) by chiral HPLC on amylose or cellulose trisphenylcarbamate derived chiral stationary phases (CSPs) under simultaneous ultraviolet (UV) and fluorescence (FL) detection was performed. The degree of enantioseparation and resolution was affected by nature and selector backbones of the CSPs as well as the kind of amino acids. Baseline enantiomer separation and resolutions were observed for the enantiomers of all analytes as NBD derivatives especially on coated type amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) derived CSPs (Chiralpak AD-H and Lux Amylose-1). The other CSPs also showed good enantioselectivity except for the CSPs (Chiralpak IB, Chiralcel OD-H and Lux Cellulose-1) having cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) as chiral selectors. The developed analytical chiral method was applied to determine the enantiomeric purity of seven commercially available L-α-amino acids and the impurities as D-forms were found to be in the range 0.08-0.87 %, respectively. The intra- and interday accuracy and precision assays showed high accuracy and precision of the developed analytical method. This chiral HPLC method for the enantiomer resolution of amino acids using fluorescent derivatization could be useful for the determination of enantiomeric purity of pharmaceuticals and biological study for amino acid type compounds among chiral drugs.
