Sintering of a Mixture of $UO_2$ and $Gd_2 O_3$ Powders Doped With $Cr_2 O_3-SiO_2$

  • Mixtures Of AUC-UO$_2$and Gd$_2$O$_3$ Powders doped With Cr$_2$O$_3$ or Cr$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ were Pressed and sintered at 1730 t in hydrogen gas witk various water-vapor contents. The density of UO$_2$- 6wt% Gd$_2$O$_3$ pellets can be increased from 91% TD to 94.5% TD in 1 vol% $H_2O$-H$_2$ gases by the addition of 0.02wt% Cr$_2$O$_3$-(0.01~0.04) wt% SiO$_2$. The magnitude of density increase is much larger in (1~3 vol%) $H_2O$-H$_2$ gases than in 0.05 vol% $H_2O$-H$_2$ gas. The densification of U0$_2$- Gd$_2$O$_3$ compact is significantly delayed in the temperature range between 1300 and 1500 t , but that of compacts with Cr$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$ is not. The role of Cr$_2$O$_3$ and SiO$_2$ in densification is discussed.

  • The aim of this study is the development of technologies of methanol production from carbon dioxide by catalytic hydrogenation. Experiments about carbon dioxide hydrogenation by catalyst mixed with CuO, ZnO, $Cr_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ were conducted to find optimum catalyst and reaction condition. Reactions were carried out at atmospheric and high pressures between 200 to $350^{\circ}C$. High yield of methanol was obtained with $Cu/ZnO/Cr_2O/Cr_2O_3/Al_2O_3$ catalyst at $250^{\circ}C$ and above 30 atmospheric pressure. There was not any increament of hydrogenation reactivity for the catalysts which was made by the addition of Pd to $Cu/ZnO/Cr_2O/Cr_2O_3/Al_2O_3$.

Structural and Microwave Dielectric Properties of the $0.94MgTiO_3-0.06SrTiO_3$ Ceramics with Sintering Temperature (소결온도에 따른 $0.94MgTiO_3-0.06SrTiO_3$ 세라믹스의 구조 몇 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • The $0.94MgTiO_3-0.06SrTiO_3$ ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature and composition ratio by XRD, SEM and DT-TGA. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of the $0.94MgTiO_3-0.06SrTiO_3$ ceramics, the cubic $SrTiO_3$ and hexagonal $MgTiO_3$ structures were coexisted. Increasing the sintering temperature from $1325^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$, average grain size was increased from $5.026{\mu}m$ to $8.377{\mu}m$. In the case of the $0.94MgTiO_3-0.06SrTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1325^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 21.66, 2,522(at 7.34GHz), $+71ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

The Study on the High Nocturnal Concentration of Ground Level Ozone (야간 지표 고농도 오존에 관한 연구)

  • The diurnal variation of O3 concentration shows two peaks, the first peak at noontime and the secondary peak at night. In order to show why the secondary peak, high nocturnal O3 concentration, occurs without sunlight which is a essential factor of a photochemical response, the O3 concentration, several weather elements and synoptic weather map were used for June∼September at 1995, 1996. The mean concentration of high nocturnal O3 concentration days is higher by 5.4 ppb than that of low nocturnal O3 concentration days. The nocturnal O3 concentration is higher than that of diurnal O3 concentration during high nocturnal O3 concentration days, at July, 1995 and June, 1996. The high nocturnal O3 concentration is related to low air pressure, high cloud cover and high wind speed. The correlation coefficient, r. between nocturnal O3 concentration and wind speed, pressure and cloud cover is 0.387, -0.218, and 0.194, respeftiviely. It is interesting that the O3 concentration increases at Pusan when the typhoon passes by. The same result showed at Taegu when the typhoon FAYE passed by. According to the analysis of nocturnal O3 concentration for June∼September at 1995 and 1996, it seems that the high nocturnal O3 concentration relates to the trough and cyclones passing by Pusan.

Properties of the $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$ Composites with $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives ($Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$를 첨가한 $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$ 복합체의 특성)

  • The electrical resistivity and mechanical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed ${\beta}$-SiC+39vol.%$ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$(6:4wt%). In this microstructures. no reactions were observed between $\beta$-SiC and $ZrB_2$, and the relative density is over 97.6% of the theoretical density. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed mostly of a $\alpha$-SiC(6H, 4H), $ZrB_2$ and weakly $\beta$-SiC(15R) phase. The fracture toughness decreased with increased $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ contents and showed the highest for composite added with 4wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ additives. The electrical resistivity increased with increased $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ contents because of the increasing tendency of pore formation according to amount of liquid forming additives $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$. The electrical resistivity of composites is all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) against temperature up to $700^{\circ}C$.

Dielectric and Magnetic Properties of BaTiO3-LaMnO3 Composites

  • We have investigated the dielectric and magnetic properties of ferroelectric-antiferromagnetic $BaTiO_{3}-LaMnO_{3}$ composite with changing relative mole percents. Due to high sintering temperature, i.e. $1150^{\circ}C$, the Ba ion in $BaTiO_{3}$ seems to diffuse into $LaMnO_{3}$; resulting in $BaTiO_{3}-(La,Ba)MnO_{3}$ ferroelectric-ferromagnetic composite. At room temperature, $0.9BaTiO_{3}-0.1LaMnO_{3}$ composite exhibits considerable magnetization (${\sim}0.7\;emu/g\;at\;2000\;Oe$) and low coercive field (${\sim}5\;Oe$). Also it exhibits high dielectric constant (${\sim}560$) and low loss (${\sim}0.08$) at 10 kHz. This result may imply that $BaTiO_{3}-LaMnO_{3}$ could be suitable for a low leakage multiferroic composite.

  • The structural and microwave dielectric properties of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics with sintering temperature were investigated. All the sample of the $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics were prepared by conventional miked oxide method and the sintering temperature was $1425\~1500^{\circ}C$. The hexagonal phase of $Mg_4Ta_2O_9$ and the cubic phase of $SrTiO_3$ were coexisted. The porosity of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics were reduced with increasing sintering temperature. In the case of $0.7Mg_4Ta_2O_9-0.3SrTiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1475^{\circ}C$, dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 14.51, 82,596 GHz and $-3.14\;ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Ethanol Gas Sensing Properties of In2O3 Nanowires Coated with Co3O4 Nanoparticles (Co3O4 나노입자가 코팅된 In2O3 나노와이어의 에탄올 가스 검출 특성)

  • $In_2O_3$ nanowires were coated with $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles to investigate the improvement of ethanol gas sensing performance compared with as-synthesized $In_2O_3$ nanowires. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the nanowires synthesized by VLS mechanism had diameters and lengths of approximately 50-100 nm and a few micrometers, respectively. $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles produced by hydrothermal method was in the size range of a few to a few tens nm. As-synthesized and $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles coated $In_2O_3$ nanowires sensors exhibited responses of 1.96% and 4.57%, respectively for the ethanol gas concentration of 200 ppm at $200^{\circ}C$. The underlying mechanism for the improved responses of $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles coated $In_2O_3$ nanowires sensors is discussed.

Quantitative Analysis of Cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside and Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside from Extracts of Morus alba Fruit (오디 추출물로부터 Cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside와 Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside의 함량분석)

  • Morus alba fruit contains several anthocyanins and flavonoids like cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside. Extractions from Morus alba fruit were performed with five different compositions of ethanol/water [v/v]. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used for the validation and content determination of cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside. The contents of cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside in ethanol extracts (100%, 70%, 40%, 20% and 0%, ethanol/water [v/v]) were 1.150%, 0.822%, 0.749%, 0.663% and 0.597%, respectively. Quercetin-3-O-rutinoside contents of ethanol extracts (100%, 70%, 40%, 20% and 0%, ethanol/water [v/v]) were 0.167%, 0.161%, 0.159%, 0.155% and 0.096%, respectively. The highest contents of cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside were in the ethanol extract with 100% ethanol/water [v/v]. These HPLC analysis method could be used as basic data for standardization of functional food from Morus alba fruit.
