In order to improve health and nutrition management of Korean women, a new strategy to develop an information system on the internet to provide the Information on health and nutrition management for women during the life cycle was suggested. To achieve the goal, an adequate database protocol for korean women as well as health and nutrition management information system based on our culture and lifestyle should be developed. We suggest to categorize the information on health and nutrition management of Korean women according to the lifecycle as follows : 1) Health and nutrition management of adolescent women 2) Health and nutrition management of women in the marritable age 3) Health and nutrition management of pregnant women 4) Health and nutrition management of delivering women 5) Health and nutrition management of lactating women 6) Health and nutrition management of menopausing women 7) Prevention of women diseases 8) Stress management of women This system including women health and nutrition management information database provides health and nutrition management Information on the network so that anyone can use the information at any time. To constuct the system, it is necessary. 1. to identify information need for health and nutrition management of Korean women. 2. to provide the guideline of information system for women health and nutrition management. 3. to construct Information system for women health and nutrition management.
Nowadays social environment is rapidly changed toward globalization and information age, and which demands the new paradigm for active utilization of information system in many fields. The increasing availability and ease of accessibility of the internet using world wide web have resulted in an enormous increase in the amount of nutrition information in countries with advanced information technology. However, Domestic web services in nutrition field are neither diverse nor professional currently. Nutrition experts need to take advantage of the resources offered though the web and take an active role in providing reliable and accurate information and preventing the growth of nutrition misinformation though web. Nutrition web sites on a variety of subjects should be developed depending upon the objectivity of nutrition resources and the target clients. Nutrition-related organizations are responsible for monitoring nutrition web information and encouraging open discussion and evaluation of hot issues among experts, and between experts and clients through the internet.
The studies on nutrition counseling and screening have been based on stand-alone program. This study introduces the nutrition counseling and screening management system. This system offers convenient user interface and the synthetic results of counseling and screening with various utilities, The system for nutrition counseling and screening consists of the general information of clients, the anthropometry data, the calculation of obesity and body mass index, the state of eating habits, the computation of calorie expenditure, the clinical symptoms, the convenient method for analysis of calorie and nutrients, nutrition prescription and alcoholism screening tests. Having interoperability, these functions preserve the information of clients and manage the historical data. The system inserts, stores and generates the synthetic information of clients, so it is able to provide suitable and efficient counseling to clients. The proposed system gathers various information of clients. With accumulated client data, it does the nutrition education, screening and counseling simultaneously. Managing clients' information connected to database, it can provide systematic and formal information. It is possible for the system to retrieve information and counsel in real time. It is expected that the nutrition counseling management system can improve the national health with animated nutrition counseling. (J Community Nutrition 7(4) : $220\∼229$, 2005)
This study examined the perception and behavior of fast food restaurant customers toward ordering kiosk nutrition information. Specifically, the influence of nutrition information transparency and information quality on behavioral intention and revisit intention were identified. In addition, the difference in the nutrition information transparency and information quality was analyzed according to the health consciousness of the customers. The study employed a self-administered survey that was distributed both online and offline from November 8~22, 2018. The sample of the study was customers who had experienced ordering from the kiosk in a fast food restaurant in the six months prior to taking the survey. A total of 250 (98.0%) respondents completed the survey, which was used for data analysis. As a result, there was a significant relation between transparency and nutrition information quality (P<0.001). The higher the visibility and inferability of the nutrition information, the better the nutrition information quality. Nutrition information quality has a significant impact on the levels of customer satisfaction and revisit intention (P<0.001). For the differences in the transparency and nutrition information quality by health consciousness of customers, the results indicated that groups with high health consciousness (3.74 or higher) perceived a higher transparency and nutritional information quality than those with a lower health consciousness. These findings can form the basis of a strategy in developing nutrition information of ordering kiosks in restaurants. In addition, it can be applied to academia and industry.
This study attempted to investigate use of information for school foodservice management and perception of informations offered on Office of Education homepages according to Daegu and Gyeongbuk nutrition teachers and dietitians. The most frequently used web site information source and information type were 'charged foodservice information sites'(63.5%) and 'information on nutrition or menus'(63.5%), respectively. Subjects belonging to schools that served more meals per day tended to use informations more frequently. Information on 'management of the foodservice production process' showed a low satisfaction level as compared to importance in all groups, and information on 'nutrition education' showed a similar tendency for subjects belonging to schools that served 1 meals per day. Overall, efforts for development and dissemination of information are required to improve the quality and efficiency of school foodservice.
This study was to examine the needs among elementary school dietitians (n = 115) for developing a nutrition information internet site for children. A survey questionnaire included general characteristics, internet use regarding health and nutrition information, and needs for developing a nutrition information site. The mean age of the subjects was 36.2 years. The higher working experience group (> 10 years of working as dieticians) had higher mean age (p < 0.001), had a larger number of enrolled students at school (p < 0.01) and the number of those receiving school lunch (p < 0.01) than the counterparts (${\le}10$ years group). Sources of health and nutrition information were mainly PC/internet (60.4%) and seminar (14.4%). About 95% used health or nutrition information using the internet, however, the majority of users (71.6%) used internet information only when they needed it. Major reasons for using internet information was 'to get nutrition education materials' (63.8%) and 'to obtain general nutrition information' (21%). One third of the subjects were satisfied with nutrition information internet sites; major problems with internet sites were 'lack of content' (38.9%) and 'lack of practical information' (33%). These characteristics regarding internet use were not different between work experience groups. Major problems with nutrition education were 'lack of nutrition educational materials' (41.1 %) and 'lack of nutrition education skills' (32.1%). These were significantly different between the work experience groups (p < 0.01). Subjects preferred CD/internet to leaflet/booklet as nutrition educational materials. In developing nutrition sites for children, subjects wanted topics such as obesity assessment, dietary assessment, and obesity. Subjects responded that contents of nutrition information should be 'suitable to the children's knowledge levels' (31.1%), 'interesting enough by including quizzes, games and songs' (27.8%), 'inserting many illustrations/icons' (16.3%). In terms of designing internet sites for children, they wanted that internet sites should 'be easy enough to find the sites' (29.2%), 'use illustrations and characters' (24.8%), 'use communication channels such as Q&A' (18.7%). Needs for developing internet sites for children were not different by the work experience group. This study suggests that web sites for children should be carefully developed considering the contents and design, have less information with more illustrations, designed to induce the interest of children, as well as including sections such as eating habit assessment and games.
The purpose of menu labeling is to offer eating environments with improved healthy food selection. Similar to U.S. policies, the Korea government enforces the Special Act on Children's Food Safety and Nutrition for provision of nutritional labeling in chain restaurants. Considering the importance of dining services for college students and their interests in health, this study examined college students' perception toward nutrition information provided by university dining services. A survey was conducted for university students. Students' recognition of nutrition information for university dining services was lower than recognition of nutrition information for commercial food services. The most common reason cited by students for considering nutrition information of university dining services was customer rights, followed by health maintenance. Students showed a high tendency to use nutrition information of university dining services. College students' motivation for knowing nutrition information of university dining services included health and value interests. Students' knowledge of nutrition had a positive effect on their intention to know nutrition information. The findings of this study offer university administrators and contract food service management companies directions for developing menu labeling for university dining services.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: With the advances in technologies, self-service kiosks at foodservice operations are becoming a new way of service provision. This study examined the relationships among the menu information quality, nutrition information quality, technology acceptance characteristics, and customer behavioral intention toward the kiosks in fast food restaurants. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A survey with a self-administered method was distributed online and offline. The sample consisted of customers who had used the kiosks at fast food restaurants in the last six months prior to the survey. The study hypotheses were tested by applying structural equation modeling. RESULTS: Structural equation modeling revealed the positive impacts of menu information quality and nutrition information quality, technology acceptance characteristics, and behavioral intention toward kiosks at fast food restaurants. On the other hand, one hypothesis (Hypothesis 4) on the impact of nutrition information quality on the perceived usefulness was rejected. CONCLUSION: The study is the first to investigate nutrition and menu information at foodservice kiosks and relate them to technology acceptance. The study is very timely and adequate in the time of the 4th industrial revolution. The critical importance of the presentation of nutrition information and menu information at the kiosks at fast food restaurants was verified. The academic and industrial implications of the study findings were discussed.
The purposes of this study were to investigate use patterns of nutrition information service of 50-and-older adults and analyze the differences in use patterns of nutrition information service according to their socio-demographic variables. The survey was conducted with 500 adults aged 50-and-over living in Seoul between March 28 and April 10, 2007. A total of 401 questionnaires were used for analysis (use rate 80.2%) and the statistical data analyses were completed using SPSS Win (ver 12.0). The main results of this study were as follows. First, most respondents (73.3%) realized the need for nutrition counseling or education. However, 65.3% of respondents have little experience in nutrition counseling or education. Second, the most preferred methods of nutrition counseling or education were field trips (27.7%), counseling in hospitals/public health centers (23.4%), cooking classes (23.2%). And the most often cited sources of nutrition information were TV/radio (66.6%) and newspapers/magazines/books (41.6%). Third, sociodemographic variables such as sex, age, education level, occupations were significantly related to methods of nutrition counseling or education. And variables such as age, education level, occupations were significantly related to often cited sources of nutrition information. Also sex, age, education level, occupations were significantly related to needs for nutrirtion information service.
This study was to investigate utilization status of internet, health/nutrition websites among children, and to assess the needs for developing nutrition websites and education programs for children. The survey questionnaire was administered to 5-6th grade students (n=434) at two elementary schools. About 32% used the internet every day while 19.5% used it whenever they needed, showing significant differences in internet usage by gender (p<0.01). Although the subjects used the internet frequently, those who used health/nutrition websites were 23.3%. The purpose of using these sites were mainly 'to obtain health/nutrition information' (55%), 'to get information regarding weight control' (17%). Fifty-six percent of the users were satisfied with the nutrition websites, but only 30% said that they were helpful. The preferred topics in developing nutrition websites were assessment of obesity, exercise methods, weight control methods, nutrition information (e.g., diet for stature growth), dietary assessment and food hygiene. Girls showed more interest in these topics than boys (p<0.05). For school nutrition education, girls showed more interest than boys in topics for cooking snacks (p<0.001) and selecting snacks (p<0.05). In nutrition websites, subjects wanted to have information and game/quiz, as well as getting information using Flash animation. The favorite colors for screen and text were slightly different by gender (p<0.01). In school nutrition education, 89.5% of subjects liked to have activities (e.g., cooking, exercise, game). They also liked materials using computers, video and internet than printed materials. If nutrition education was done at schools, subjects wanted to receive 5.7 times of education per semester on average (mean length: 42.6 min/session). This study suggests that nutrition websites and education programs for children should include the topics such as assessment of obesity or diet, weight control and special information (e.g., diet for growth) as well as general information. In designing nutrition websites and programs, methods including game, quiz, Flash animation and activities (cooking, exercise) could be appropriately used to induce the interest and involvement of children.
