Ebb and flow 저면관수 시스템에서 칼랑코에(Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'New Alter') 생육단계별 배양액 농도에 따른 생육, 양분흡수 및 배지 양분 집적 (Plant Growth and Nutrient Uptake of Kalanchoe Plants (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'New Alter') and Nutrient Accumulation of Growing Media with Growth Stage at Different Nutrient Strengths in Ebb and Flow Subirrigation Systems)

  • Ebb and flow저면관수 시스템에서 배양액 농도에 따른 칼랑코에(Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'New Alter')의 생육단계별 생육특성, 양분흡수율 및 배지의 양분집적 상태를 조사하였다. 생육단계별 배양액 농도 처리(EC 0.8, 1.6, 2.4, $3.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$)에 따른 작물 생육은 유의한 차이가 있었다. 1, 3, 5, 8, 11주 처리 후에 작물 생육을 조사한 결과, 5주 후부터 처리 별 차이가 매우 컸고, 각 생육단계에서 생장이 가장 양호하였던 처리구는 EC $1.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$이었으며, 엽면적, 초장, 건물중은 EC $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$을 지나 EC $3.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$에서 급격히 감소하는 현상을 보였다. 칼랑코에 각 생육단계에서 생장이 가장 양호하였던 EC $1.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$처리구에 대해 양분흡수 특성을 조사한 결과 무기이온의 흡수율은 생육단계별 다소 차이가 있었으나 $NO_3$-N가 가장 크고 $Mg^{2+}$가 가장 낮게 나타났다. 배양액 농도 처리구에서 배지 위치 별 EC를 조사한 결과 배지 상층부의 EC는 하층부 EC보다 1-3배 높았고 또한 생육이 진행됨에 따라 배지 상층부 및 하층부에서 집적되는 무기양분의 누적량이 증가되었으며 집적량이 많은 EC $3.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$처리구에서는 작물의 생장을 억제시키는 효과가 나타난 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 EBB저면관수 시스템에서는 배양액의 EC에만 의존할 것이 아니라 배지 내 양분 집적을 고려하여 배양액 공급 시 조성 및 농도를 결정할 필요가 있다.

한국에서 분리한 Pseudomonas syringae의 빙핵활성 (Ice-Nucleation Activity of Pseudomonas syringae Isolated in Korea)

  • 단감나무와 차나무의 표면에서 분리한 Pseudomonas syringae 2계통 PS8401, PS8402를 $2.5\%$ glycerol이 첨가된 nutrient agar에서 배양한 다음, 증류수로 세포현탁액($10^8$ colony forming unit/ml)을 조제하여 마이크로피펫법으로 동결온도를 측정하여 본 결과, 각각 -2.5와 $-3.8^{\circ}C$에서 동결하여 빙핵활성이 인정되었다. 한편 동일한 방법에 의한 증류수의 동결온도는 $-21.8^{\circ}C$였고 옥수수를 비롯한 8가지 작물즙액의 동결온도는 $-11.6^{\circ}C$ 이하였다. PS 8401의 nutrient broth 현탁액$(10^8\;cfu/ml)$을 살포한 옥수수유묘는 $-2^{\circ}C$에서부터 얼기 시작하여 $-4^{\circ}C$가 되면, 거의 전체 식물이 상해를 입었으나 nutrient broth만 살포한 대조구의 유묘는 온도가 $-9^{\circ}C$로 내려가기 전까지는 피해를 입지 않았다. PS8401 현탁액을 살포한 후 48시간에 측정한 유묘의 피해는 살포한 세균의 량이 증가함에 따라 심해지는 경향이었다. 상기 PS 8401의 빙핵활성은 현탁액내 세포의 수가 많아짐에 따라 증가하였으며 세균을 배양한 배지의 조성이 배양온도에 따라서도 빙핵활성이 변하였는데 $2.5\%$ glycerol 혹은 $2.5\%$ glucose를 첨가한 nutrient agar와 탄소원을 별도로 첨가하지 않은 nutrient agar에서 자란 세균현탁액$(10^2\;cfu/ml)$의 동결온도는 각각 -4.0, -4.4, $-7.2^{\circ}C$였고, 배지를 $2.5\%$ glycerol을 함유한 nutrient agar로 고정하고 온도를 달리하여 생육시킨 세균현탁액 $(10^2\;cfu/ml)$의 동결온도는 $-4.0^{\circ}C$(생육온도가 $15\~25^{\circ}C$인 경우)와 $-7.6^{\circ}C$(생육온도가 $30^{\circ}C$인 경우)였다.

Chemical Composition, In vivo Digestibility and Metabolizable Energy Values of Caramba (Lolium multiflorum cv. caramba) Fresh, Silage and Hay

  • The experiment was conducted to determine nutritive values of caramba (Lolium multiflorum cv. caramba) fresh, silage and hay by in vivo and in vitro methods. There was a statistically significant difference (p<0.01) in crude protein content value between fresh caramba (12.83%) and silage (8.91%) and hay (6.35%). According to results of experiment, the crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin contents of the three forms of caramba varied between 30.22% to 35.06%, 57.41% to 63.70%, 35.32% to 43.29%, and 5.55% to 8.86% respectively. There were no significant differences between the three forms of caramba in digestibility of nutrients and in vivo metabolizable energy (ME) values (p>0.05). However, the highest $ME_{CN}$ (ME was estimated using crude nutrients) and $ME_{ADF}$ values were found in fresh caramba (p<0.01). As a result, it could be said that, there were no differences between the three forms of caramba in nutrient composition, digestibility and ME value, besides drying and ensiling did not affect digestibility of hay. Consequently, caramba either as fresh, silage or hay is a good alternative source of forage for ruminants.

영양가 계산을 위한 새로운 식품코드화 (New Food Code Numbering for Calculation of Nutritive Value)

  • New food item numbers for each food included in Food Composition Table in Korea (4th ed) and other Food Composition Table. New Food item numbers classified to base 5-basic food groups and its classification was as follows. 1 As for the 1569 food items , they were classified as 20 food sub-groups(82 food sorts) for 5-basic food groups. 2. As for the 82 food sorts, they were individually classified with raw prepared , fat sugar content and arranged in order, ㄱ , ㄴ and ㄷ and made the item number. 3. The data set of nutritive value of food with new item numbers was accessed on computer files. 4. The Food & Description Table was drafted as 1572 food items were arranged in order, ㄱ, ㄴand ㄷ. 5. The Food Table arranged in the order or each nutrient content (energy, carbohydrate, protein , etc....) was drafted. Clipper program for computing nutritive values and tabulation of nutrients of daily diet were coded by applying new food item numbers. It is expected that should utilized as a basic data of computer program for calculating the nutritive value of diet, evaluating the nutrition and counseling the nutrition.

Effect of Harvesting Frequency, Variety and Leaf Maturity on Nutrient Composition, Hydrogen Cyanide Content and Cassava Foliage Yield

  • The experiment studied the effect of harvesting frequencies and varieties on yield, chemical composition and hydrogen cyanide content in cassava foliage. Foliage from three cassava varieties, K94 (very bitter), K98-7 (medium bitter) and a local (sweet), were harvested in three different cutting cycles, at 3, 6 and 9 months; 6 and 9 months and 9 months after planting, in a 2-yr experiment carried out in Hanoi, Vietnam. Increasing the harvesting frequency increased dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) production in cassava foliage. The K94 variety produced higher foliage yields than the other two varieties. Dry matter, neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and total tannin content increased with months to the first harvest, whereas CP content decreased. Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) content was lower at the first harvest than at later harvests for all cutting cycles. At subsequent harvests the content of total tannins tended to decline, while HCN content increased (p<0.05). Chemical composition differed somewhat across varieties except for total tannins and ash. Dry matter, NDF, ADF and total tannins were higher in fully matured leaves, while CP and HCN were lower in developing leaves.

  • Triticale을 사료로서의 특성을 알기 위하여 밀(북견 66호, 월한1호, 치오쿠코무기), 호밀(Amilo, W Warko, Mardar), triticale(Moniko, Presto, Tewo)을 출수기, 유숙기, 호숙기, 황숙기에 수확하여, 건물 수량, 사료성분 및 IVDMD을 조사했다. 1. 재료의 건물수량은 어느 초종도 생육에 따라 증가했고, triticale은 다른 2종의 초종보다 수량성이 우수했다. 2. triticale의 사료성분은 대부분 멸과 호밀의 중간에 위치했다. 3. triticale과 호멸의 IVDMD는 출수기부터 호숙기까지 저하하고, 성숙기에 향상한 것에 반해 밀은 생육에 따라 저하했다. triticale의 IVDMD는 출수기와 성숙기에서 가장 높았고, 유숙기와 호숙기에서는 밀이 높았고, 호밀은 출수기를 제외한 모든 시기에서 최저였다.

Changes in Dietary Guidance: Implications for Food Composition Tables

  • New Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) forthe United States and Canada have recently been set for both macronutrients and micronutrients, and are likely to be of interest to health professionals in Korea as well. DRIs are now available for nutrients that did not have Recommended Dietary Allowances set in the past (amino acids, n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, total fiber, added sugar, choline, boron, nickel, and vanadium). Furthermore, the units for the DRIs do not always match those traditionally carried on food composition tables (FCTs). FCT developers will also need to consider carrying new variables to allow the calculation of folate intake in $\mu$g of dietary folate equivalents, vitamin E intake as mg of a-tocopherol (not as mg of a-tocopherol equivalents), and vitamin A intake as $\mu$g of retinol activity equivalents (not as $\mu$g of retinol equivalents). Because the new recommendations for upper levels of intake sometimes refer to a specific form or source of a nutrient, nutrients occurring in foods must be separated from added or supplemental forms for vitamin E, niacin, and folate; pharmacological magnesium must be carried as a separate variable; and preformed vitamin A must be separated from vitamin A from carotenoids. Influence of Varying Level of Sodium Bicarbonate on Milk Yield and Its Composition in Early Lactating Nili Ravi Buffaloes

  • Influence of varying level of sodium bicarbonate (SB) supplementation on milk yield and its composition was examined in a randomized complete block design in early lactating Nili Ravi buffaloes during summer. Four iso-nitrogenous and iso-caloric diets were formulated. The diet 0B contained 0 while LB, MB and HB diets contained 0.50, 1.0 and 1.50% SB levels, respectively. The diets were randomly allotted to twenty buffaloes, five in each group. A linear increase in nutrient and water intake was recorded with increasing SB level. Buffaloes fed MB and HB diets showed higher nitrogen balance than those fed 0B and LB diets. A significant increase in blood pH and serum bicarbonate was noticed with increasing SB level. Urine pH increased significantly with increased SB level. A linear increase in milk yield was also noticed with increasing SB level. Milk fat% increased significantly in buffaloes fed MB and HB diets compared with those fed 0B and LB diets. Buffaloes fed HB diet had higher conception rate and less services per conception than those fed 0B diet. This study indicated that a high SB diet not only increased dry matter and water intake, milk yield, milk fat% but also increased conception rate in early lactating buffaloes during summer.

Germ Tube Formation of Ascospores of Two Terrestrial Higher Ascomycetes, Hypoxylon mammatum and H. truncatum

  • Two wood decay ascomycetes fungi identified as Hypoxylon mammatum and H. truncatum were isolated from backyard of Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) in Korea. Hypoxylon truncatum is newly recorded as a wood degrader in Korea. Unusual germination mechanisms of ascospores in H. mammatum and H. truncatum are described and illustrated. The differences between two species were noticed on the process of germ tube formation. In the process of germ tube formation, the fast movement to pigmented ascospores activated from their perispores was termed as spore eclosion that was only found in H. mammatum. This sophisticated recognition mechanism indicated the existence of specific eclosion and germ tube formation due to the composition of cell wall layers and their preferable host derive, based on examined two species under a genus. The observation on present study postulates different composition of wall layers of ascospore and different nutrient composition for germination.

Chemical Composition and Size of Floating and Sunken Eggs of Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus

  • Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is one of the most commercially important species of farmed marine fish in Korea. Although techniques for rearing the larva of this species are improving, production costs are also increasing due to microbial influences and genetic degradation caused by successive culturing. Since the demand for healthy seed, which requires eggs of good quality of, is high, we examined the effects of nutrient composition on the size of P. olivaceus eggs. We analyzed floating (live) and sunken (dead) eggs of P. olivaceus from five different hatcheries for their size and amino and fatty acid composition. The sizes of eggs and oil globules from floating vs. sunken eggs were significantly different at p<0.05. No significant relationships were observed, however, among larval length, hatching percentage, and egg and oil globule size. The dry weight and amino acid levels of floating eggs were greater than those of sunken eggs (p<0.05), but no difference in fatty acid content was observed.
