  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of grit with well-being and self-efficacy. Grit was considered as a two-factor variable with consistency of interest and perseverance of effort. For the empirical analysis, data were collected from the sample of 237 nurses working at general hospitals. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26 to test the hypothetical relationships. It was suggested that two factors of grit would be possible associated with well-being. However, the results of this study showed that the consistency of interest part of grit had non-significant effect on well-being, Perseverance of effort part of grit had indirect effect on well-being through fully mediation effect of self-efficacy. This study confirmed that grit, some how, positively related to well-being and variables such as, self-efficacy, could be a important variable to bridge grit to well-being. Further studies were suggested to perform studies on more about grit's two factors and unexplored external variables between grit and well-being of nursing professionals.

  • Objectives: Epilepsy is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment and intervention from health workers. Medication adherence is a factor that influences the success of therapy for patients with epilepsy. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the role of pharmacists in improving the clinical outcomes of epilepsy patients, focusing on medication adherence. Methods: A scoping literature search was conducted through the ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. The literature search included all original articles published in English until August 2023 for which the full text was available. This scoping review was carried out by a team consisting of pharmacists and neurologists following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Extension for Scoping Reviews and the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, including 5 steps: identifying research questions, finding relevant articles, selecting articles, presenting data, and compiling the results. Results: The literature search yielded 10 studies that discussed pharmacist interventions for patients with epilepsy. Five articles described educational interventions involving drug-related counseling with pharmacists. Two articles focused on similar pharmacist interventions through patient education, both verbal and written. Three articles discussed an epilepsy review service, a multidisciplinary intervention program involving pharmacists and other health workers, and a mixed intervention combining education and training with therapy-based behavioral interventions. Conclusions: Pharmacist interventions have been shown to be effective in improving medication adherence in patients with epilepsy. Furthermore, these interventions play a crucial role in improving other therapeutic outcomes, including patients' knowledge of self-management, perceptions of illness, the efficacy of antiepileptic drugs in controlling seizures, and overall quality of life.

The statistical data was based upon the 359 question and answer papers that were done by inpatients that were hospitalized in two geriatric hospitals and two general hospitals, and the methods used for analyzing were frequency, t-test, factor analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. The results are as follows. 1. The factors on choosing hospitals between geriatric hospital and general hospitals were different. The priority for the geriatrics was kindness, and then considerate nursing, and the reliance of treatment. The patients of general hospitals looked first for reliance of treatment, reputation and history of the hospital, and the kindness of the staff. The kindness of the staff, good nursing, and easy procedures were the primary factors of choosing geriatric hospital. 2. The four primary factors in choosing which hospital patients would go to were the predominance of the facilities, kindness and convenience, the reliance and proximity of medical treatment, and recommendation. The patients in the geriatric hospital first looked for kindness and convenience, second the reliance and proximity of medical treatment, third predominance of facilities, and last recommendation. The general hospitals main priority was the reliance and proximity of medical care, second predominance of facilities, kindness and hospitality, and last recommendation. 3. The satisfaction rate was higher in the geriatric hospital compared to general hospitals, but the satisfactory of factors were very similar. Patients in the geriatric hospital were pleased with the hospital staffs kindness, quick nursing and the improvement of inconvenient matters, and clear diagnosis of the doctors. The general hospital patients were satisfied with the hospital staffs clear explanation and accurate diagnosis 4. The analysis in the satisfactory factors turned out to be the environment of the hospital, kindness of the staff, and convenience. Both the patients of the geriatric hospital and general hospitals were very pleased with the kindness of the hospital staff. Ranking second and third was convenience and service for the geriatric hospital, and environment of the hospital and convenience for the general hospital. 5. According to a rank of multiple recurrent analysis of the patients satisfaction and the intention of re-visiting in addition to intention of solicitation, in the case of a geriatric hospital, when the intention of re-visiting is the dependent variable, the first stage shows that the less insurance the patient has, the higher was the intention of re-visiting. In the second stage, the more satisfied the patient is of the staffs kindness, the higher was the intention of re-visiting. Further more, when the intention of solicitation is the dependent variable, the first stage shows that not all the independent variables were significant, but the second stage shows that the more satisfied the patient is of the staffs kindness and the hospital along with the medical treatment expenses, the higher was the intention of solicitation. 6. In the first stage of a rank of multiple recurrent analysis of the satisfaction of the general hospital and the intention of re-visiting, not all the variables were significant, but in the second stage, all the satisfaction by factors were significant. Moreover, when the intention of solicitation was the dependent variable, the first stage shows not all the variables were significant, but in the second stage, all the satisfaction by factors were significant. That is to say, in the case of a general hospital, the satisfaction of the hospital and the medical treatment expenses were high, and the more satisfied the patient is of the hospitals environment and the staffs kindness, the intention of re-visiting and the intention of solicitation was higher.

  • Purpose : The hospice movement began about 30 years ago in Korea. However, basic studies have seldom been conducted about the general public's knowledge concerning hospice care and their needs for it. The purpose of this study was to investigate the general public's knowledge of and attitude toward hospice, and their needs for hospice care, and to analyze the needs for hospice care in relation to their knowledge and attitude in residents from a specific community. Methods : The survey was conducted with 924 people randomly selected from a district in Seoul. The data were collected through a self-reporting questionnaire constructed by the authors. With 30 items given in the questionnaire, the level of hospice needs showed Cronbach's alpha .89 in a pilot study and .92 in this study and the items were classified into four areas by a factor analysis. The data collected were analyzed by means of t-test and ANOVA. Results : 1) The average age of the respondents was 38. The majority of the respondents were well-educated. 2) Regarding awareness of hospice care, 54%(501 people) indicated they have heard of hospice. About 74% thought that people should be able to prepare for death in advance. About 83% wanted to be informed when they have life threatening illnesses such as terminal cancer. Also, about 63% responded that patients with terminal diseases should be provided with physical, spiritual, and psychological care for minimizing pain and peaceful death. Regarding the attitude toward hospice care, 74% responded that they would use hospice care if needed. The number of the respondents who preferred home visitation by the hospice team to care for the terminally ill ranked first with 34%. Concerning needs for hospice care : 1) By needs area, physical need showed highest mean(M=4.37), followed by social need(M=3.96), emotional need(M=3.87), and the spiritual need(M=3.79). The overall need level showed the mean value of 4.00 which reflects a considerable need for hospice care. 2) By demographic characteristics, people age over 50, the married, and the unemployed indicated higher level of needs for hospice care. Women showed higher level of needs than did men, and Catholics demonstrated higher level of needs than believers of other religion(P<0.0001). 3) As for the knowledge of and attitude toward hospice rare, the level of hospice care needs was significantly higher in the following groups: those who have heard of hospice, those who are aware of death preparation, those who want information on terminal diseases, those who want to use every method to sustain life, and those who are aware of hospice needs(P<0.001). Conclusion : It is assumed that the findings of this study on the knowledge, attitude, and needs for hospice care in the public can contribute to planning a successful hospice care program. Furthermore, the findings of this study will serve as useful data for the promotion of home hospice care to improve the quality of life of community residents, and contribute to the development of hospice care as a whole.

  • This study aimed to clarify any factors that may have effect on the appropriateness of hospital admission and hospitalization with the intention of facilitating more efficient occupancy of hospital beds and better medical services in the aspect of their quality, minimizing unnecessary occupancy of beds, and ultimately helping patients requiring acute treatments to use immediately hospitals. This paper selected 154 Stroke patients who left neurology department of one general hospital from March, 1, 2006 to September, 31, 2010 as targets to meet the rate according to medical care security and to see the trend of recent 4 years. As study method, this paper analized medical treatment record with AEP to evaluate the appropriateness of hospital admission and stay and the collected data was computerized through SPSS 12.0. Based upon the results above, the conclusion was drawn that the higher appropriateness of hospital admission and the shorter length of hospital stay will lead to the higher appropriateness of hospitalization. In other words, it is required to provide hospitalized patients with all kinds of behaviors including medical treatments and nursing care service, management of pharmaceuticals, tests, rehabilitation and symptoms, as well as instructions and information for patients. Meanwhile, as it was found that the length of hospital stay may affect the appropriateness of hospitalization, the longer length of hospital stay may result in reduced bed turnover rate. In this light, it is necessary to organize a task force team responsible for evaluation and control of the appropriateness of hospitalization and hospital stay length to improve the quality of medical service in a medical center, so that patients can leave the center timely. Ultimately, governmental supports such as expansion of long-term care facilities will reduce the necessary length of hospital stay so that patients with stroke can receive rehabilitative treatments and long-term care service shortly after completion of acute treatments.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the need for child hospice care in families of children with cancer for outpatient. The participants were 83 parents of children with cancer. This survey was conducted from January 2011 to March 2011 at four hospitals in Daegu. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA using the SPSS/WIN Program. Needs for hospice care for the participants were high. The need for "emotional care of children" showed the highest, "control of secondary physical problems", "acceptance of the family's difficulty", "management for terminal physical symptoms", "spiritual care for preparing for death". With respect on the demographic characteristics of the participants, there were statistically significant differences in hospice care needs, among to the religion, sibling, relatives, whether of the cancer. The above findings indicate that needs for hospice care for the participants were high about emotional care, especially as it is related to children's anxiety. Therefore hospice care, based on emotional part, should be provided systematic hospice care with specialized multidisciplinary child hospice care team, child hospice center.
