  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the major trends in research studies in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration from 2010 to 2012. Methods: A review using analysis criteria developed by researchers was done of 132 studies published between 2010 and 2012. Research design, participants, research domain, and keywords were analyzed from the Journal of Korean Nursing Administration. Results: Job satisfaction, stress, organizational commitment, safety, turnover, nursing education, and performance were found to be major keywords. Of the research in the Journal, quantitative methods were used in 93.2% of studies. The major setting and participants were hospitals (58.2%) and nurses (65.5%) respectively. Prevalent analysis methods used were t-test, ANOVA, correlation, regression, chi-square, AMOS, and factor analysis. Major domains in the articles were: controlling, directing, staffing, nursing management education, and professionalism & legal principles. Conclusion: Through this study, the research trends in nursing administration were identified, but there is a need to include more of the following topics in future research: new concepts in nursing policy, enhanced deliberations of IRB, rationalization of the effects in sample size calculations, theoretical development of planning and organizing, and development of interventions for management support of the nursing management process.

A total of 30 studies were analyzed using descriptive statistics. 70% of the studies was published for the last five years, and 76.7% of studies were conducted in a descriptive study. Nursing students accounted for 83.1% in terms of the participants, and a questionnaire was used for the data collections in the entire studies. The studies considered ethical aspect accounted for 90.0%. In the experimental studies, the nursing intervention was a education program, and dependent variables of the studies included consciousness of bioethics, moral sensitivity, critical thinking and moral judgment. Among the top 10 priorities in the key words, the first priorities was the bio-medical ethics. In conclusion, it is suggested to develop an expanding-iterative studies, qualitative studies, and development of bioethics programs for nurses.

  • Purpose: To identify research trends in the Journal of Muscle and Joint Health. Methods: In total, 315 studies published between 2008 and 2020 in the Journal of Muscle and Joint Health were reviewed using analysis criteria developed by the authors Results: Most participants were adults or older adults, they mostly had arthritis. The types of research design were descriptive research (46.4%), quasi-experimental design (21.9%), randomized controlled trial (1.9%), and qualitative research (4.1%). The occupation of most authors was professor in universities (61.0%). Data were collected mostly in hospitals (41.6%) or communities (24.4%) using a questionnaire (52.4%). Written consent was obtained at 75.6% and 47.9% of studies were approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The instruments measuring physical concepts such as pain, flexibility, sense of balance and fatigue were mostly used. The most common interventions in experimental studies were physical interventions, with the main being exercise. Key words were categorized into four nursing meta-paradigms: human, health, environment and nursing. The most frequently reported key words were included in the health domain. The most frequently used key words were physical intervention, older patient, osteoarthritis, pain and depression. Conclusion: The results suggest that more research studies targeting various age groups related to muscle and joint health are required. Additionally there is a need to increase the number of qualitative studies, randomized experimental studies, and systematic review studies. It is necessary to pay attention to compliance with research ethics publication regulations.

Methods: Key words in English and Korean were used to search through eight electronic databases-PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CINAHL, RISS, DBpia, NDSL, and the National Assembly Library. Results: Ten studies were ultimately selected for the integrative review and were evaluated in terms of contextual and methodological quality. The studies consisted of seven quasi-experimental studies and three case report studies. The selected studies utilized music, art, forest therapy, dancing, education, and play programs to change mothers' perceptions, emotions, and behavior and to improve their relationships with their babies or others. Conclusion: It is important to consider mothers' self-awareness and emotional expression, and to improve their relationships with their babies or others as core elements when developing intervention programs for anxiety and/or depression among unmarried mothers living in residential facilities.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to review the nurse demand forecasting methods in empirical studies published during 1991~2014 and suggest ideas to improve the validity in nurse demand forecasting. Methods: Previous studies on nurse demand forecasting methodology were categorized into four groups: time series analysis, top-down approach of workforce requirement, bottom-up approach of workforce requirement, and labor market analysis. Major methodological properties of each group were summarized and compared. Results: Time series analysis and top-down approach were the most frequently used forecasting methodologies. Conclusion: To improve decision-making in nursing workforce planning, stakeholders should consider a variety of demand forecasting methods and appraise the validity of forecasting nurse demand.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the trends regarding diet and exercise intervention studies for Korean obese children between 2010 and 2017. Methods: This study was synthesized and reviewed systematically by meta-analysis. In addition, a total of thirty nine studies were investigated. The random effect model was used for meta-analysis. Results: Most studies used single interventions and that their theoretical frameworks still required improvement. In addition, on-line education programs still need to increase their number over that of off-line ones. Regarding the dependent variables for understandings the influences obesity may have on Korean children, most studies took advantage of biological indicators. In terms of the effects of obesity management programs, multiple interventions have gained a competitive edge over single ones for Korean obese children's diet and exercise. In a similar vein, healthy eating habits and adequate physical activities would have more positive effects on Korean children' obesity management programs. Conclusion: Further various studies will be needed for the early detection and prevention of obese children through varied interventions and qualitative improvement of studies.

  • This study was conducted to examine trends in research about nurse educators in Korean hospitals. The methodological framework consisted of previous work by Arksey and O'Malley. A literature search was performed of electronic databases (RISS, KISS, CINAHL, and PubMed) from January 2000 to June 2022. Each study was collated and analyzed, and the studies' data were abstracted into the following categories: publication year, study design, study participants, and education program details. Eight studies were reviewed. Most of the studies were published after 2020 (87.5%). The most frequently used design was quasi-experimental (50.0%). There were three studies whose subjects were nursing educators and five studies were conducted on programs in which nurse educators participated. In Korean medical institutions, clinical nurse educators have various roles, including the development and operation of programs and serving as facilitators and evaluators. In most studies, knowledge and skills were measured as outcome variables of educational programs led by nurse educators. The roles of nurse educators were diverse in Korean medical institutions. Therefore, a program to enhance the competency of nurse educators is needed. Judging from the effects of nurse educators in Korean medical institutions, it is necessary to expand the nurse educator system, and additional research on nurse educators should be conducted.
