Methods: The study utilized the one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were recruited from a corporation group member of a private health maintenance organization. The data of 35 subjects who completed the program out of initial 114 subjects were analyzed for this study. The program included 6 times of monthly face-to-face visits and additional short messages by cellular phone. They were given education for self-management of hypertension and coaching for lifestyle modification. Dependent variables were measured at the beginning and at the end of 6months program and compared by paired t-test. Results: There were significant reductions in systolic and diastolic BP, BMI, total cholesterol, and fasting blood sugar. Among the variables in life style, significant changes were shown in alcohol consumption (frequency and quantity) and exercise (frequency and duration). Conclusion: This study showed that 6 months lifestyle coaching program has potential for positive outcomes on BP control and modifying lifestyle for adults with hypertension. However, additional study is needed to find sustainability of lifestyle and the long-term effect of the program with larger sample.

  • Purpose: Purposes of this study were to develop a community-based respite program for family caregivers and to test the effects of the program. Methods: Focus group interviews were performed to extract meaning of respite care for family caregivers (13 participants) and a survey was done to identify respite needs of family caregivers (157 participants). The community-based respite program for family caregivers was developed based on results of the focus group interview and survey. The program was used with 41 participants (19 experimental and 22 control). Independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U-test were used to test differences between control and experimental groups for respite needs, burden of caregivers, subjective wellbeing, social support, fatigue and functional status of elders with dementia. Results: There were statistical differences in caregiver burden, subjective wellbeing, and social support after the program, but, none for respite needs, fatigue and functional status of elders with dementia. Conclusion: The results indicate that a respite program can be useful to decrease burden of caregivers and increase subjective wellbeing and perceived social support of family caregivers in community settings. Further intervention research is needed to increase the functional status of elders with dementia and decrease fatigue in caregivers.

  • This is a single-group pre-post study conducted to determine the effect of a calligraphy program on nursing students' career decision-making self-efficacy and self- leadership. The data collected from 231 second-year nursing students were analyzed using SPSS WIN 25.0 to determine descriptive statistics, paired t-test to analyze the effect of calligraphy, and Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the relationship between career decision self-efficacy and self-leadership. After the program, both career decision self-efficacy (t=7.23, p<.001) and self-leadership (t=6.81, p<.001) improved. The analysis of career decision self-efficacy and self-leadership after the program showed a strong correlation (r=.849, p<.001). The results of this study are significant in that they validate the effectiveness of a calligraphy program in promoting self-leadership and career decision-making self-efficacy among nursing students who do not have clear career goals. Students' overall satisfaction with the calligraphy program was 4/5 points, and they most highly evaluated the smooth interaction between fellow students through the program. At a time when the importance of cultural arts education is gradually increasing in social and educational fields around the world, calligraphy has the advantage of laying the foundation for the promotion of basic arts for the revitalization of cultural arts, so educational support is needed not only in terms of improving the quality of life and pursuing self-actualization of individuals with emotional expression and creative problem-solving skills, but also at the social level.

  • Purpose: South Korea is rapidly changing into a multicultural society; the nursing discipline faces the need to educate its students in cultural competence to meet the health care needs of an ethnically diverse population. However, there is little evidence suggesting that nursing programs provide this education. The purpose of this study was to measure nursing students' cultural awareness in a nursing education program. Methods: Four hundred thirty-three nursing students at 4 universities in Daejeon participated in this cross-sectional descriptive study, which was held from August to September 2012. Data collection was conducted via questionnaires based on the Cultural Awareness Scale(CAS), and demographics included general and cultural characteristics. Results: The mean cultural awareness score was 4.54, which was relatively low compared to studies completed in other countries. The highest rating was in the cognitive awareness subscale, and the lowest was in the general education experiences subscale in CAS. The level of cultural awareness was significantly different in those who had experienced overseas travel. Those students also perceived a greater need for cultural education. Conclusion: The study's finding suggest the need for a transcultural nursing education program designed to enhance the level of cultural awareness in Korea's nursing students.

Method: Participants comprised 60 nurses in a university hospital. The experimental group participated in a 3-hour delirium education program. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Chi square and independent t-tests were conducted to examine similarities in demographic and dependent variables, and an independent t-test was used to test the hypothesis. Results: The experimental group obtained significantly higher scores than the control group in knowledge of delirium(t=14.52, p<.001), importance of nursing intervention(t=13.76, p<.001), and nursing practice (t=13.71, p<.001). Conclusion: Results suggest that delirium education is an effective tool to improve knowledge of delirium, importance of nursing intervention, and nursing practice. Method: The data were collected from 165 nursing college students and 92 non-nursing college students using a structured questionnaire, and then analyzed by $X^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Compared to previous research, the score of some items of the knowledge and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS improved. However, the score of several items of the knowledge and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS needs further improvement. In both groups of college student, total attitudes toward HIV/AIDS were correlated with total knowledge of HIV/AIDS. There was a significant difference between two groups in the Teaching Effectiveness of the nursing students(t= 3.68, p<0.001). There was a no significant difference between two groups in the Clinical Nursing Performance of the nursing students.(t = 1.724, p = 0.089). The simulation nursing education by standardized patient instructor program can help then relieve the Teaching Efficacy of the nursing students. In addition, it is required to develop an appropriate simulation nursing education by standardized patient instructor program considering level and experience of nursing students.

  • Purpose: This study intends to examine the effects of a stepwise communication education program among nursing college students, focusing on scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. Methods: The study design was a one-group repeated measure ANOVA. Participants were 27 nursing students in practice. Students participated in 5-week stepwise communication education program using SBAR; including 1 week of lecture education, 4 weeks of scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. The data were collected at each level of the education process: pre-education, after 1 week of lectures, and after completion of scenarios and nursing case-based role playing. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine changes in SBAR technique knowledge and communication self-efficacy. Results: The stepwise communication education program using SBAR was effective in increasing SBAR technique knowledge, and communication self-efficacy. The lecture-based education was effective only in the area of SBAR technique knowledge and its subscale, attitudes towards SBAR. However, scenarios and nursing case-based role playing was broadly effective across communication self-efficacy, SBAR technique knowledge, and its subscale, knowledge of the SBAR. Conclusion: Based on this study, we propose that it is necessary to confirm the effect of long-term SBAR communication education using scenarios and nursing case-based role playing in nursing students' practice.
