The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an aquarobics exercise program on the physical fitness and blood lipids in elderly women. The subjects of the study were twenty-six elderly women enrolled in an Aquarobics exercise program consisting of 60 minutes per session, 3 times a week during the period of 12 weeks. The effects of the program were assessed using the instruments to measure physical fitness and blood lipids before and after the aquarobics exercise program. Data was collected between September and December in 2006, and analyzed by frequency, paired with a t-test, using a SPSS. The results were statistically significant in muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary endurance, but no significant differences were found in agility, total cholesterol, triglycerides and high density lipoprotein cholesterol. Aquarobics exercise can be an effective nursing intervention to improve muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and cardiopulmonary endurance in elderly women.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of delirium care training program on the nurses' knowledge of delirium, self-confidence and performance levels in caring patients with delirium. Methods: The study was used a quasi-experimental design. The participants were 131 nurses in general nursing units in B and J hospitals. Sixty four nurses in B hospital were allocated into the experimental group and 67 nurses from J hospital into the control group. The delirium care training program was composed of lecture and clinical practice. Clinical practice of delirium care was applied everyday for 4 consecutive weeks starting from the admission day of the older adults(${\geq}70$ years old), using 'short CAM' and 'nursing checklist for delirium prevention'. Results: The knowledge of delirium, self-confidence in caring patients, and performance levels of nursing care were significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The findings of this study provided the evidence for the potential utility of the delirium care training program and underscored the needs of broader application of the training program of delirium care for nurses in general nursing units.
The increased potential for the lifespan of a child with cancer is largely due to advances in drug treatment, radiation treatment, and surgical techniques. In this generation cancer has become associated with chronic illness. Therefore supportive nursing intervention for children with cancer is needed to promote normal growth and development. This study was designed to develop and test the supportive nursing intervention program for promoting body image and self-esteem of children with cancer The supportive nursing intervention program involved emotional, physical, informational, and social support. The subjects were 41 children with cancer(20 in intervention group, 21 in control group) in K city. Measurements were taken concerning body image and self-esteem from both groups during pre and post test The data were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha, x$^2$-test, paired t-test and t-test. The results were as follows : The intervention group had a more positive body image as measured by the Body Cathexis Scale (t=2.436, p=.020) and a more self esteem as measured by the Cpopersmith self-inventory (t=2.768, p=.009) than the control group at post test. According to this study, the supportive nursing intervention program was effective for promoting the body image and self-esteem of children with cancer. Repeated research is needed to develop a refined supportive nursing intervention program for children with chronic illness.
Purpose: Due to the academic demands from a theory and practice-based educational program, nursing students often experience psychological burdens. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mindfulness meditation programs on nursing students' perceived stress, depression, and self-efficacy. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were recruited from two nursing colleges. The sample consisted of an intervention group (n=29) that participated in a mindfulness meditation program and a control group (n=30). The experimental group participated in the program for 120 minutes a week for a total of 8 sessions. The data were collected prior and after the intervention using self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, Fisher's exact probability test, and the t-test. Results: After the application of the mindfulness meditation program, the experimental group showed a significant difference in perceived stress(t=-10.33, p<.001), depression (t=-2.17, p=.035), and self-efficacy (t=2.57, p=.013) scores. However, there was no significant differrence in the control group. Conclusion: These findings provide a supportive evidence of mindfulness meditation program as a behavioral intervention to reduce stress, depression and increase self-efficacy among nursing students.

Purpose: This study developed a program to facilitate evidence-based practice (EBP) in one nursing organization, and identifies the effects of the program on the nurses' EBP facilitators. Methods: The program was based on the Transtheoretical Model of stages of organizational change, a literature review, the cases of hospitals overseas, and a prior study. To identify the effects of the program, a one-group pretest-posttest study was conducted with 45 nurses who participated in the EBP implementation. Results: The program consisted of EBP educational sessions, consultations with academic nursing faculty and clinical EBP mentors, and support from the administration and relevant departments. After the EBP program, there was a statistically significant difference in belief in the value of EBP between the pretest and the posttest (t=2.31, p=.026). However, no significant differences were found between the pretest and the posttest for organizational support to develop EBP (t=0.62, p=.537), skills in locating and evaluating research reports (s=-1.00, p=.987), knowledge of research language and skills (s=-1.00, p=.986), and time to devote to EBP (s=-23.00, p=.711). Conclusion: The findings provide important data that can be used to develop and implement strategies for enhancing EBP in clinical settings in Korea.
