This study was designed to find the characteristics and patterns in subjectivity of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. Q-methodology was used as a research design and the research procedures were as follows. Q-sampling has been derived from the literature review and a questionnaire. Its credibility and validity were also tested by nursing professors. Total of 34 statements were selected. P-sampling has been drawn and 51 samples were selected. Based on 9 point scale, the selected respondents rated their operant definition on the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. The results of above procedures were analyzed by PCQ program. The perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student were analyzed based on the typical array, extreme comments, and the demographic information of study subjects. The results revealed that there were three types of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. The three types were named as follows; 1) The first type, agree of positive change by oneself perspectives, was consisted of 18 subjects. They thought that they did their best positive change for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. 2) The second type, agree of social support perspectives, was consisted of 13 subjects. They thought that they asked for an other person's help for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. 3) The third type, agree of looking on avoidance perspectives, was consisted of 5 subjects. They thought that they looked on or avoided problems for the most effective coping strategies about practical stress. As a result, this study discovered three types of the degree of the perspectives on the coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student. By identifying the nature of each of three types, this study can be useful to develop efficient coping strategies about practical stress in nursing student.

The purpose of this study was designed to analyze the influencing factors on nursing perspectives and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students. The data was collected through structured questionnaire. The subjects in this study were 192 nursing students who had been educated in three colleges and one university in Kwangju. Data collection was done from January to February, 1999. The data was analyzed by using SAS program. The results from this study were as follows; 1. The mean score of total nursing perspectives was $4.24{\pm}0.40$ and that of total clinical practice satisfaction was $2.63{\pm}0.38$. 2. Self experience of admission was significant in satisfaction of clinical practice(t=2.09, p=.03). 3. Nursing perspectives by religion was significant(t=2.26, p=.02). 4. The nursing perspectives was significant according to the classifications of clinical instructor(F=4.50, p=.01) and the most difficult interpersonal relationships of the clinical practice(F=4.14, p=.02). 5. The satisfaction of clinical practice was significant according to the most difficult interpersonal relationships of the clinical practice(F=3.61, p=.03). 6. The correlation between the scores of nursing perspectives and satisfaction of clinical practice was not significant(r=.191, p=.060). In conclusion, it was found that the more positive interpersonal relationships of clinical practice, the more higher degree of perceived satisfaction of clinical practice and nursing perspectives. And the clinical instructors should play a good role model to gain positive satisfaction of clinical practice perceived by nursing students.

The purpose of this study was to identify the formation and changing pattern of nursing perspectives of nursing students. 176 subjects were composed of 118 nusing students and 58 non-nursing students. The data were collected through openended question and structured questionair. The result were as follows : 1. Nursing perspectives were classified six categories(nature of nursing, image of nursing, component of nursing, meaning of nursing, range of nursing, function of nursing) 2. This descriptive survey design study was aimed to investigate nursing students' perspectives of nursing care. One hundred seventeen junior or senior students in BSN program and 131 junior or senior students in RN-BSN program at K University were compared and contrasted in terms of their perspectives on nursing care. Using the instrument developed by Cho Kyoul-Ja and Song Mi-Ryung(1997), the data were collected from April 1st to April 30th in 2003. The findings of the research are as follows. 1. The average perspective score of the RN-BSN students was higher than that of the BSN students. 2. The RN-BSN students reported higher scores than those of the BSN students in perspectives on personal qualification and meanings, and perspectives on scope and function of their nursing care. However, there was no significant difference between the groups in overall nature and domains of nursing care. 3. In terms of the participants' demographic backgrounds such as, grades in the program, religion, history of hospitalization, there was no significant difference between the BSN and RN-BSN groups. 4. No significant difference was found within the RN-BSN group in terms of their nursing perspectives associated with the years of clinical experience. In conclusion, the score of nursing perspectives in RN-BSN student group was higher than that of the BSN students. No other differences were found in this study. The higher nursing perspective score in RN-BSN group is attributed to their clinical experience. Thus, it is suggested that philosophy and value of nursing should be taught early in nursing program in order for nursing students to obtain proper points of views on nursing care. In addition, nursing philosophy, holistic view, and humanistic values should be stressed in continuing education for clinical nurses in order for them to maintain dignitary perspectives in nursing care.
Purpose: This article discusses nurses' moral dilemma and self-cultivation from the Foucauldian viewpoint. Methods: The philosophical inquiry approach is utilized to analyze the nurses' moral distress. Analyses are based on Foucauldian perspectives. Results: Foucault's codes of conduct comprising the mode of subjection and telos are discussed to explain nurses' moral dilemma. The dual process of caring is also discussed. Conclusion: From dilemmatic experience, nurses practice self-formation or self-cultivation to become more virtuous, well-balanced, or integrated people. Such characteristics form the essence of nursing practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this article was to describe feminism and to propose the integration of a feminist method into qualitative nursing methodology in order to expand the body of nursing knowledge. Method: The world view of feminism including philosophy, epistemology and methodology was outlined, and a feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were suggested as a way of strengthening nursing research methodology using literature review. Results: Four different philosophical perspectives of feminism, that is, liberal feminism, radical feminism, Marxist feminism, and social feminism were described. Also epistemological perspectives including feminist empiricism, feminist standpoint, and postmodem feminism, were explained and were related to the methodology and methods of feminism. To enhance the strengths of nursing research within the feminist perspectives, feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were exemplified in the paradigm of qualitative nursing research. Conclusion: This paper suggested that incorporation of feminist approaches within nursing is a valuable attempt to expand the body of nursing knowledge and to enhance the quality of nursing care services by rectifying male-oriented knowledge and by empowering women in the care of other people as well as themselves.

The four types were named as follows; 1) The first type. agree of problem-solving perspectives. was consisted of 8 subjects. They emphasized that the nurse should solve a patient's problem promptly and precisely for advancing nursing image. 2) The second type. agree of kindness perspectives. was consisted of 5 subjects. They insisted that the nurse should be kind to patient and his family for advancing nursing image. 3) The third type. agree of love and service perspectives. was consisted of 4 subjects. They emphasized nursing spirit based on love and service for advancing nursing image. 4) The fourth type. agree of professional knowledge perspectives. was consisted of 6 subjects. They emphasized that the nurse should construct of professional nursing knowledge for advancing nursing image. As a result. this study discovered three types of the degree of importance of professional nursing for advancing nursing image. By identifying the nature of each of four types. this study can be useful to develop efficient strategies for advancing nursing image.
Purpose: Nursing homes are a type of residential care that provide diverse services such as planned activities, convalescent care, skilled nursing and memory care. Nursing homes are good facilities for old people with dementia to improve their quality of life. On the other hand, the subjectivity toward nursing homes can vary to greater or lesser degrees. The purpose of this study was to identify the subjective attitudes and viewpoints toward nursing homes in undergraduate nursing students. Methods: The Q methodology, which is a research method to study the people's subjectivity, was used. The 40 Q-statements selected from each of 43 participants were classified into the shape of a normal distribution. The data collected were analyzed using the QUANL program. Results: Three types of subjectivity toward nursing homes emerged: 'Type I, in terms of usage of nursing homes-hesitative perspectives;', 'Type II, in terms of running of nursing homes-progressive perspectives;', and 'Type III, in terms of admission to nursing homes-constructive perspectives'. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that nursing intervention programs should be developed for the three types. The study results will lead to further research.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop visions of nursing service, nursing strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an intensive care unit (ICU) based on a Balanced Scorecard (BSC). Methods: This study was undertaken by using methodological research. The development process consisted of four phases; the first phase was to develop the vision of nursing in ICUs. The second phase was to develop strategies according to 4 perspectives of a BSC. The third phase was to develop KPIs according to the 4 perspectives of BSC and the final phase was to combine the nursing visions, strategies and KPIs of ICUs. Results: Two main visions of nursing service for ICUs were established. These were 'realization of harmonized professional nursing with human respect' and 'recovery of health through specialized nursing' respectively. In order to reach the aim of developing nursing visions, thirteen practical strategies and nineteen KPIs were developed by four perspectives of the BSC. Conclusion: The results will be used as objective fundamental data to attain business outcomes for the achievement of nursing visions and strategies of ICUs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution score of nursing organizational level for Performance Management Indicators (PMIs) in the nursing department in a hospital. Methods: The process consisted of three stages. Stage I: The strategies based on 4 perspectives of Balanced Scorecard (BSC) were identified by BSC committee in the hospital nursing department. Stage II : PMIs according to the strategies were developed. Stage III : The contribution score according to nursing organizational level (nursing department, nursing unit, nurse) for PMIs were surveyed by questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive statics and ANOVA test. Results: Eight strategies were defined according to 4 perspectives of BSC. Eighteen PMIs were determined according to the strategies. The nurse considered the contribution of nursing department most highly on the 13 among 18 PMIs. Conclusion: This study provided basic data for further study to identify the subject of responsibility on the strategic management of performance.
