Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand and describe the leadership experience of clinical nurses. Methods: During 2014, data were collected using focus group interviews. Three focus group interviews were held with a total of 20 clinical nurses participating. All interviews were recorded as they were spoken and transcribed and data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Fifteen categories emerged from the five main themes. 1) Thoughts on the leadership category: to lead others, to cope with problem situations adequately and to serve as a shield against difficulties. 2) Situations requiring leadership: situation that requires correct judgement, coping and situations that need coordination and cooperation. 3-1) Leadership behaviors: other-oriented approach and self-oriented approach. 3-2) Leadership behavior consequences: relevant compensation and unfair termination. 4-1) Facilitators of leadership: confidence and passion for nursing and external support and resources. 4-2) Barriers to leadership: non-supportive organization culture and deficiency in own leadership competencies. 5) Strategies of leadership development: strengthen leadership through self-development and organizational leadership development. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results indicate that it is necessary to enhance clinical nurses' leadership role in healthcare. Enhancement can be achieved through leadership programs focused on enlarging leadership experience, constant self-development, leadership training, and development of leadership competencies suited to the nursing environment.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the needs of teachers in daycare centers for preschoolers in providing health education and health care services and to identify competencies and barriers to health education among the teachers. Method: A total of 410 teachers from 496 public daycare centers were recruited. Participating daycare centers were selected using a stratified sampling method. Data were collected from June to August 2002 using mailed questionnaires. Result: About 37% of the daycare centers provided health education more than 6 times during the past year and 92% provided annual health screenings. Traffic safety, personal hygiene, and sexuality education were most frequently provided. Regarding in-service education for daycare teachers, 62.7% had obtained health related education. Sexuality education, traffic accident, and injury prevention were the main topics for the in-service education. The teachers had relatively higher competencies and lower barriers to health education, while they also had proper knowledge related to health of children. Conclusion: Based on the study results, health professionals could plan and develop health promotion programs to meet the needs of teachers and children in daycare centers.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Bibliotherapy Program for competency enhancement in nursing students. A quasi-experimental design was employed in this study. Participants for the study were 24 nursing students, 10 in the experimental group and 14 in the control group. This Program was conducted on the experimental group once a week for 90~120minutes/session during 10weeks(9session). Data were analyzed by using the SPSS/WIN. 21.0 program with ${\chi}^2$ test, t-test and two-way ANOVA. As a result, Participants in the bibliotherapy reported significantly different in total competency(F=10.62, p=.001) scores from those in the control group. Components of competence were significant differences in the Basic competencies(F=8.74, p=.001) and Practical competencies(F=8.58, p=.001) scores, but the Results competence in citizenship competency(F=.229, p=0.797), there was no significant difference. This Program was effective in increasing competency(basic competencies and practical competencies) for nursing students. Therefore, this approach is recommended as enhance the competency strategy for nursing students.
Purpose: This study was done to provide fundamental data for the development of competency reinforcement programs to prevent addictive behavior in adolescents through the construction and examination of an addiction prevention core competency model. Methods: In this study core competencies for preventing addictive behavior in adolescents through competency modeling were identified, and the addiction prevention core competency model was developed. It was validated methodologically. Results: Competencies for preventing addictive behavior in adolescents as defined by the addiction prevention core competency model are as follows: positive self-worth, self-control skill, time management skill, reality perception skill, risk coping skill, and positive communication with parents and with peers or social group. After construction, concurrent cross validation of the addiction prevention core competency model showed that this model was appropriate. Conclusion: The study results indicate that the addiction prevention core competency model for the prevention of addictive behavior in adolescents through competency modeling can be used as a foundation for an integral approach to enhance adolescent is used as an adjective and prevent addictive behavior. This approach can be a school-centered, cost-efficient strategy which not only reduces addictive behavior in adolescents, but also improves the quality of their resources.
The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the effectiveness (knowledge, attitude, skills of Evidence-Based Practice, and problem solving skills) of nursing information literacy competency enhancement program for nursing students. It is a pre-post design study carried out with a single group of 72 sophomores in a nursing college. Nursing information literacy competency enhancement program of 6 times (8 hours) was provided to nursing students. Our results have demonstrated that knowledge, attitude, skills of evidence-based practice, and problem solving skills were significantly higher in nursing students. In conclusion, the nursing information literacy competency enhancement program was effective in promoting knowledge, attitude, skills of evidence-based practice and problem solving skills. Based on our results, the nursing information literacy competency enhancement program can provide a basis for enhancing evidence-based nursing practice competencies and problem solving skills of nursing students.
Purpose: The study was aimed to assess the competency and professional attitude of school health nurses who are occupied with adolescent health, and to provide basic information for the development of continuing education programs for them to improve their competencies. Method: The self-reported questionnaire based on WHO assessment tool were used to assess the competencies of the school health nurses providing health care for adolescents. The subjects were 584 school health nurses and the data were collected from January 28 to March 5, 2002. Result: The school health nurses in middle schools showed significantly higher scores than the school health nurses in primary schools on the level of competency. The nurses were scored the highest in the area of dealing with sexual issues for the students, followed by providing them direct care and application of primary care concept to the field of school health nursing. The areas showing the lowest scores were counseling and utilization of the system. There was a significant positive correlation between competency and professional attitude of the school health nurses. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop various continuing educational programs for school health nurses using different teaching methods such as web-based program.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a new course entitled 'Clinical Research Management' to enhance nursing students' clinical competency in handling clinical trials. Methods: The goals and content of the existing current education program for clinical research professionals such as clinical research coordinators and clinical research associates provided by the Korea National Enterprise for Clinical Trials were analyzed to identify the core educational concepts. A focus group interview was performed to investigate essential competency levels for the professionals who were to begin their career in the area of clinical trials after graduating from the college of nursing. Through these initial processes, we identified the core competency required for clinical research professionals and the related course content. Goals and objectives based on the specified four competencies were set and confirmed by expertise review. Results: We developed a new course entitled Clinical Research Management, a 16-week elective subject consisting of various teaching and learning strategies based on four core competencies: basic knowledge on clinical trials, communication, risk management, and ethics. Conclusion: The results of this study will contribute to enhancing nursing students' clinical competency, including knowledge, skills, and attitudes relevant to clinical trials.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of preceptorship on On the Job Training of new nurses. The research design was a retrospective survey and one group pre-post test design. The subjects were 49 entry nurses and 49 preceptors. The data were collected from Feburary 1, 1998 to December 1, 1998. One questionnair applied in this study consisted of general characteristics, the responses of new entry nurses and their preceptors and their qualities. The other questionnair consisted of job satisfaction of new entry nurses and preceptors and their competencies. The data were analyzed for frequencies, mean score, standard deviation, t-test, and ANOVA. The results of the study were as follows: 1) Preceptees's responses were that the nurses' affiliation of unit, cooperation of other nurses, and competencies of nursing skills improved after OJT applied preceptorship. 2) Preceptors's answers were that preceptorship had a positive effect on their continuing education. 3) While preceptees's job satisfaction scores were high in interaction, administration, and organization, they were low in autonomy and pay. 4) Pre-competency scores were the same as post-competency scores. 5) After preceptorship, preceptors responded that their nursing skill & communication competency increased, but their nursing administration competency decreased. 6) Finally, preceptorship's other effects were as follows: (1) Checklists for preceptee education at the nursing unit were developed separately. (2) It was proved that 'preceptor interview note' was effective on manage preceptorship. (3) We obtained duty overlap periods; medicalsurgical units-1 month, 5 ICU-2 months, operation room-3 months. (4) We prepared a preceptor program based on the study results.
This study to examine the effects of the convergence fundamental nursing program on nursing students' communication competence, interpersonal relationship, and compassion. One-group pretest-posttest design was used. The data were collected from 40 students in the second grade who took the fundamental nursing and fundamental nursing practice. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-test. As a result, it was significantly found that communication competence(t=-3.452, p=.001), understanding of interpersonal relationship(t=-5.405, p=<.001) and compassion(t=-7.226, p=<.001). The results of this study suggest that convergence fundamental nursing program of nursing students can contribute to nursing job competency improvement and necessity to apply them various major subjects.
Purpose: This study was performed to determine whether positive psychological capital and role conflict among hospital nurses influence patient safety competencies. Methods: Data were collected from nurses working at one hospital with more than 800 beds in J Province. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé's test, Pearson's correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 26.0 program. Findings: In the hierarchical regression analysis, positive psychological capital, role conflict, bachelor's degree or higher as the highest level of education achieved, and three or more experiences reporting accidents impacting patient safety were found to significantly correlate with subjects patient safety competency. Among these, positive psychological capital emerged as the strongest factor, and the explanatory power of Model 4 was determined to be 38.1%. Conclusion: This study confirmed that hospital nurses' positive psychological capital and role conflict impact patient safety competency, underscoring the importance of organizational measures to increase patient safety awareness. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an educational program to strengthen hospital nurses' patient safety capabilities and conduct follow-up research to test its efficacy.
