  • This is an quasi experimental study using nonequivalent pre-test post-test control design for the development of the CAI program and an analysis of its effects, for nursing college students to learn emergency patient triage. This program was developed from November, 2000 to middle of September, 2001 with the aid of curriculum design experts. The subjects of this study were 86 randomly sampled freshmen students of C nursing college in Ulsan. They were divided into 45 for the test group and 41 for the control group. The CAI program for the learning of the emergency patient triage has been developed on the basis of Merrill's Component display theory and Keller's ARCS theory and through the curriculum design process of Hannafin & Peck. It has also been done with the use of Tool book 8.0, the multimedia righting tool. The experiment to verify the effect of the CAI program has been carried on from September, 20 to October, 8 2001. There were six hypotheses to accomplish the purpose of the study, and the analysis of the data was done with the use of SPSS/win program. As a result of this study, the author concluded that this CAI program is an effective mediation method to promote the learning accomplishment and learning motive for nursing college students. Therefore in the field of emergency nursing education, it would be possible to use this program as means for widening the possibility of self-learning and to promote individual learning of nursing college students.

There were significant differences in current level and need of the nurse managerial competency(p=.000). Education needs of the nurse managerial competency were influenced by age, clinical career, position, education level, experience of nurse manager education(p<.05). 5) Education program operations were preferred to 'the theme course', 'lecture', 'external education institution'. Methods: The design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were university students in nursing, of which 31 were assigned to the experimental group and 43 to the control group. The education was carried out for 2 hr, once a week for 7 weeks. Data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 14 program, and included $x^2$ test, independent t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. Results: NIE showed significant differences in the changes of attitude toward environment (F=4.461, p=.036). Conclusion: Findings suggest that this NIE in environmental education was effective in changing students' attitudes toward the environment. Therefore this NIE is recommended for inclusion in education for university students in nursing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing the nursing practice readiness of newly graduated nurses. Methods: The participants were 120 new nurses with 1 to 12 months of work experience at two tertiary hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The data were collected through an online questionnaire from February 6 to April 30, 2023. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25 program, and the independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: The participants' nursing practice readiness was found to be positively correlated with their confidence in core nursing skill performance, satisfaction with clinical practice, satisfaction concerning simulation education, satisfaction regarding preceptorship, length of preceptorship and length of current unit placement. The regression analysis showed that the significant variables affecting nursing practice readiness were confidence in core nursing skill performance and satisfaction with clinical practice, and the explanatory power of the variables on nursing practice readiness was 36.0%. Conclusion: In order for newly graduated nurses to achieve nursing practice readiness, it is necessary to develop a nursing education program that can improve their confidence in core nursing skills performance and satisfaction with clinical practice in the nursing college curriculum and further research on the factors affecting nursing practice readiness is needed.

Method : Thirteen participated in free discussion group, and fourteen participated in expert-guided discussion group for five weeks. Two weeks before the education, DIT and JAND were assessed, and JAND was assessed again on month, three months and six months after the five weeks' education program. Results : 1) Average realistic scores of JAND did not showed significant differences as times went by. However, scores were highest at three months after the education in general. 2) In both of free discussion and expert-guided discussion group, JAND score increased after the education, and highest at three months in general. 3) Low level moral development group showed highest scores at one month after the education, and declined at three month. However, in middle and high level of moral development groups, scores were higher at three months than at one month after the education. Scores were declined again at six months after the education. Conclusion : Effects of moral education program were highest at three months after the education, and were lessened as times went by. Especially for the low moral development group, effect was not continued more than one month. Therefore, more persistent, periodic education program was required until the ability of ethical decision making is settled down.

  • Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted to identify the attitudes of nursing college students to North Korean refugees (NKR) and to examine factors influencing these attitudes. Methods: A total of 195 participants completed a structured questionnaire between September and October 2016. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The results of this study were as follows: attitudes toward NKR was 2.74 out of 4 points; cultural receptivity was 3.25 out of 5 points; nationalism was 2.46 out of 4 points. Cultural receptivity (r=.26, p<.001) and nationalism (r=-.18, p=.036) were significantly related to attitudes toward NKR. Unification attitude (${\beta}=0.27$, p <.001) and cultural receptivity (${\beta}=0.20$, p=.005) explained 13.7% of the variance in attitudes toward NKR. Conclusion: The findings of this study provide fundamental data for the development of a nursing education program on multicultural perspectives. Furthermore, these findings might highlight the need for a nursing education program that could enhance understanding of patients from different backgrounds and recognize their differences, going beyond a national point of view as commonly found in Korea. The nursing education program should also promote an open and receptive attitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the difference in learning styles, learning stages, and preferred nursing specialties between two groups of nursing programs, regular BSN and RN-BSN. The survey instrument was a simplified version of the Kolb's Learning-Style Instrument which was developed by the researcher, a self- reported learning style questionnaire with twelve questions related to the four learning stages. The sample of the study was the 218 nursing students in a university in Korea which consisted of 58 junior and 67 senior students in the regular BSN program, and 58 junior and 35 senior students in the RN-BSN program. Main findings of the study were as the following. 1) Over all, the major learning style was either the diverger or the accomodator; the most preferred learning stage was the concrete experience and the leastly preferred learning stage was the abstractive conceptualization learning stage; and the most preferred nursing specialty in the future was the clinical nursing. 2) Students in the BSN program preferred four learning stages with rather equal proportion, whereas the students in the RN-BSN program preferred the concrete experience learning stage as high as 60.3% and the abstractive conceptualization learning stage as low as 9.5%. 3)For the future career, the junior students of both programs preferred clinical and educational nursing areas, and the senior students of both programs preferred clinical and research areas. The main reason of the difference seemed to result from the different courses such as Health Education or Teaching Method for the juniors and the Nursing Research for the seniors of both groups. Because the sample of the study was limited to a university, it is difficult to generalize the study results for the entire nursing students in Korea. Continuous studies with larger numbers of nursing students and nurse educators, and experimental studies measuring the effects of new curricula are needed for the future.
