Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS program. Results: The mean of person-centered care was 2.95±0.62 out of 5. There were significant differences in person-centered care in terms of age, shift pattern, total clinical career, and educational experience of person-centered care. Person-centered care and ethical sensitivity, person-centered care and person-environment fit showed a positive correlation. Factors affecting the person-centered care were the age (20-29), shift pattern (three shift), person-environment fit. The explanatory power was 42%. Conclusion: These results can be used to increase the person-environment fit and adopt a differented approach based on age and shift pattern in order to enhance person-centered care. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply an person-centered care program for nurses in long-term care hospitals.

  • Purpose: This study developed a structural model for explaining and predicting terminal care performance in long-term care hospital nurses. The model was based on the stress integration model of Ivancevich and Matteson(1980) and the results of previous studies. Method: Data was obtained from August to September 2022 from 267 nurses in 13 long-term care hospitals in G-do. Results: Results of model verification for this study, revealed that factors directly affecting the terminal care performance of long-term care hospital nurses were nursing work environment(β=0.43, p<0.001), death anxiety(β=-0.29, p<0.001), and terminal care stress(β=0.22, p=0.003). However, the attitude toward nursing care of dying(β=0.07, p=0.287) had no effect on the terminal care performance. Conclusion: The results of this study, confirmed the necessity of improving an individual's perceived nursing work environment, continuous education related to terminal care to reduce death anxiety, and an interventional approach for enhancing terminal care performance.

  • This study was aimed at examining the determinants of organizational creativity at nursing care units of university hospitals. Using some items of the Creative Nursing Practice Index(CNPI), the Nursing Work Index-Revised(NWI-R), and the Work Preference Inventory(WPI), an empirical study was conducted with a sample of 543 nurses at 49 nursing care units in two university hospitals in Korea. Data collected from the individual respondents were aggregated and transformed into the secondary data at organizational level. The data were analyzed, using Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple regression method. The results of the study showed that organizational creativity has positive relationships to task motivation, including enjoyment and challenge to work, and work environment supporting nurses' autonomy and collaboration. Task motivation of the units and autonomous work environment explained 16.3% and 7.9% respectively in the variance of the organizational creativity. Organizational creativity was found to be significantly influenced by challenge and autonomous environment. This result implies that nursing managers should make an efforts to enhance the organizational creativity of nursing units by motivating their staff to challenge to a novel way of doing at work and making the work environment more autonomous.

Methods: Participants were 211 nurses working in one tertiary hospital, two general hospitals, and one dedicated COVID-19 hospital in a metropolitan area. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 software. Results: Person-centered care was statistically significant. It positively correlated with nursing professionalism (r=.57, p<.001), communication competence (r=.56, p<.001), and nursing work environment (r=.60, p<.001). As a result, communication competence (𝛽=0.33, p<.001), hospital type (𝛽=0.25, p<.001), nursing professionalism (𝛽=0.23, p=.002), nursing work environment (𝛽=0.18, p=.006) and clinical career (𝛽=-0.11, p=.045) in that order. The regression model was statistically significant (F=30.467, p<.001) and showed an explanatory power of 49.6%. Conclusion: It is necessary for individuals and hospitals to provide opportunities for nurses to participate in various education and programs to improve person-centered care. This may enable them to enhance their nursing professionalism and communication competence.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the differences in nurses' psychosocial work environment (PWE) in integrated nursing care wards (IWs) with higher nurse staffing and general wards (GWs) with lower staffing, and to analyze the effect of PWE on their health outcomes. Methods: Data were collected from 151 nurses in IWs and 156 nurses in GWs at a tertiary hospital in Seoul in 2023. The Korean version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire III was used to measure PWE and health outcomes. Regression analyses were conducted to examine the effect of PWE on health outcomes. Results: The most negative aspects of the nurses' work environment were found in the work demand domain. IW nurses (vs. GW nurses) reported lower work demand, better work organization and job contents, and a more positive work-individual interface. Nurse health outcomes were also better in the IWs. Lower work demand and better work-individual interfaces were positively associated with improved health outcomes, while ward type (IW vs. GW) was not significantly related to health outcomes. Conclusion: Reducing work demand by expanding integrated nursing care services nationwide and improving nurse staffing in GWs is crucial for improving health outcomes.
