Saxifraga stolonifera (Saxifragaceae) is a perennial herbaceous plant growing in Korea, China, Japan and Russia. The aerial part has been used as herbal medicine for treatment of pneumonia, frostbite, inflammation and microbial infection. In this study, fresh juice and methanol extract were prepared from the aerial part of S. stolonifera, and their antimicrobial, antithrombin, and antioxidant activity were evaluated, respectively. The fresh juice showed weak antimicrobial activity against Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Candida albicans with ignorable DPPH scavenging activity. But, the methanol extract showed strong antioxidant activity ($IC_{50}$ of $37.5{\mu}g/mL$) with minor, broad-range antimicrobial activity. Antithrombin activities were not observed in fresh juice and extract, up to 1.5 mg/mL. Sequential organic solvent fractionation of methanol extract showed that $IC_{50}s$ of ethylacetate and the butanol fraction were 6.9 and $7.8{\mu}g/mL$, respectively, that is comparable with vitamin C or butylated hydroxytoluene. Analysis of component in extract and fractionates suggested that the antioxidants in fractions are diverse and the active substances have glycosylated phenolic structure. Our results suggest that the aerial part of S. stolonifera could be used as the natural source of potential antioxidant.

Calcium-binding protein calretinin is thought to play important roles in calcium buffering. Recently, we reported on the distribution, morphology of calretinin-immunoreactive (IR) neurons and the effects of eye enucleation on the immunoreactivity of calretinin in the superficial layers of the hamster superior colliculus (SC). In the present study, we describe the distributions and types of labeled cells and effects of enucleation in the deeper layers by immunocytochemistry. We also compare this labeling to that of GABA, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. In contrast to the superficial layers, the deeper layers contained many calretinin-IR neurons which formed two tiers. The first tier, which was very distinctive, was found within the intermediate gray layer. The second tier was found in the deep gray layer. Labeled neurons varied dramatically in morphology and included vertical fusiform, stellate, round/oval, and horizontal neurons. In contrast to the superficial layers, enucleation appeared to have no effect on the distribution of calretinin immunoreactivity in the deeper layers. Two-color immunofluorescence revealed that none of calretinin-IR neurons were labeled with an antibody to GABA. The present results demonstrate that calretinin identifies unique neuronal sublaminar organizations in the hamster SC. The present results also demonstrate that none of the calretinin-IR neurons in the hamster SC is GABAergic interneurons. As many calretinin-IR cells are GABAergic interneurons in most other brain areas, this phenomenon in hamster SC is exceptional.
Nitric oxide (NO) and calcium-binding proteins occur in various types of cells in the central nervous system. They are important signaling and calcium buffering molecules, respectively. In the present study, using immunocytochemistry we examined the distribution and the co-localization pattern of neurons containing neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and parvalbumin in the visual cortex of hamster. The overall number of parvalbumin-immunoreactive (IR) neurons was 17 times higher than that of the nNOS-IR neurons in the hamster visual cortex. The highest differences were found in layer V, where parvalbumin-IR neurons were 54.7 times more abundant than nNOS-IR neurons. Many nNOS- and parvalbumin-IR neurons were similar in size, shape, and manner of distribution in the visual cortex. However, two-color immunofluorescence revealed that no neurons in the hamster visual cortex expressed both nNOS and parvalbumin. The present results indicate that there are subtle species differences in the co-localization pattern between nNOS and calcium-binding proteins. The present results also suggest not only the heterogeneity and functional diversity of nNOS-IRneurons in the visual cortex, but also the importance of understanding animal diversity
The purpose of his study was to explore the effect of crossover musical activities applying the traditional Korean Jang-dan on the multicultural perception of young children. The subjects of this study were one class of 21 5-year-old children(experimental group) in J kindergarten and two classes of 5-year-old children (20 children in comparative group and 20 children in control group) in S kindergarten located in Y city, totaling 61 children (31 male children and 30 female children). Twenty sessions of Crossover musical activities applying the traditional Korean Jang-dan (rhythmic patterns) developed by the author were applied to the experimental group, musical activities focusing on traditional Korean music to the comparative group and musical classes from Nuri curriculum for 5-year-olds to the control group, respectively. The result of this study showed the following, among the sub-factors of multi-cultural perception, the scores of post-cultural openness and post-cultural acceptability showed a significantly higher level in statistical terms in the experimental group, for which crossover musical activities applying the traditional Korean Jang-dan were conducted, than those in the comparative group and the control group. The comparative group which participated in musical activities of traditional Korean music exhibited a significantly higher level of post-cultural respectfulness statistically (than other groups). The result of this study implies that crossover musical activities applying the traditional Korean Jang-dan have the effect of enhancing the perception of cultural openness and cultural acceptability which are the sub-factors of young children's multi-cultural perception.

This study examined the effect sizes of psychological burnout-related factors on the psychological burnout of early childhood teachers by applying meta - analysis focusing on master 's theses, doctoral dissertations and journals that have been published in Korea for the past 20 years. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the total effect size, the factor group, the sub-factor, and the positive and negative effect factors of the inducing and inhibiting factors showed a significant effect size. Second, in terms of inducing factors, the task problem group showed a larger effect size than the negative relationship group. Third, among the lower factor of the negative relationship group, all the sub factors excluding the negative relationship with the director, effect size showed a medium effect size. Fourth, task stress showed the greatest effect size among the sub factors of the task factor group, followed by role conflict, task overload, and role ambiguity. Fifth, resilience showed the greatest effect size among the inhibition factors, followed by organizational support factor, teacher efficacy factor, social support factor, and emotional factor. Sixth, all sub factors of the emotional labor factor group, organizational support factor of the organizational support factor group, general teacher efficacy factor of the teacher efficacy factor group, and all sub factors of social support factor Medium effect size. In addition, the lower factor of all the other factors showed a large effect size. Seventh, of the effect factors, job satisfaction factor, depression factor, and turnover intention factor all showed a large effect size.
