A Study on the Effective Algorithm by Fourier Transform for Numerical Conformal Mapping

  • Conformal mapping has been a familiar tool of science and engineering for generations. The methods of numerical mapping are usually classified into those which construct the map from standard domain such as the unit disk onto the 'problem domain', and those which construct the map in the reverse direction. We treat numerical conformal mapping from the unit disk onto the Jordan regions as the problem domain in this paper. The traditional standard methods of this type are based on Theodorsen integral equation. Wegmann's method is well known as a Newton-like efficient one for solving Theodorsen equation. An improved method for convergence by applying low frequency pass filter to the Wegmann's method was proposed. In this paper we propose an effective algorithm for numerical conformal mapping based on the improved method. This algorithm is able to determine the discrete numbers and initial values automatically in accordance with the given region and the required accuracy. This results come from analyzing the shape of given domain as seen in the Fourier Transform.

A Study on the Methods for Solving the Theodorsen Equation for Numerical Conformal Mapping

  • Conformal mapping has been a familiar tool of science and engineering for generations. Determination of a conformal map from the unit disk onto the Jordan region is reduced to solving the Theodorsen equation, which is an integral equation for boundary correspondence functions. There are many methods for solving the Theodorsen equation. It is the goal of numerical conformal mapping to find methods that are at once fast, accurate, and reliable. In this paper, we analyze Niethammer’s solution based on successive over-relaxation (SOR) iteration and Wegmann’s solution based on Newton iteration, and compare them to determine which one is more effective. Through several numerical experiments with these two methods, we can see that Niethammer’s method is more effective than Wegmann’s when the degree of the problem is low and Wegmann’s method is more effective than Niethammer’s when the degree of the problem is high.

  • This paper is to discuss the numerical conformal mapping from the unit disk onto Jordan region, which can be solved by Theodorsen equation. Wegmann's method has been known as the most efficient one for the Theodorsen equation. However, we found divergence through numerical experiments by the iterative method of Wegmann. The divergence occurs especially when some degree of difficulty is high. We analyze the cause of divergence and propose an improved method by applying a low frequency pass filter to Wegmann's method. By this proposed method we can get a stable convergence for all the problems which was unstable with the Wegmann's method.

  • 단위원의 내부로부터 Jordan 영역으로의 등각사상을 구하는 것은 일반적으로 비선형방정식인 Theodorsen 방정식을 푸는 것으로 귀결된다. 저자는 이 비선형 방정식의 수치적 해법 중 가장 효율적인 방법으로 알려진 Wegmann의 해법에 저주파 필터를 적용하여 개선하고 새로운 산법의 수렴성을 이론적으로 증명한 바 있다[1, 2]. 또한 이 해법에 있어 참값을 모르더라도 오차평가가 가능한 방법을 제안하였다[3]. 본 논문에서는 참값을 모르더라도 오차평가가 가능한 연구결과를 이용하여 주어진 문제영역과 허용오차에 따라 자동으로 수치등각사상이 결정되는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이 알고리즘에서는 지금까지 경험에 의존했었던 표본수와 저주파 필터 파라메터가 주어진 문제영역에 따라 자동으로 결정된다. 이것은 문제의 난이도가 문제영역의 변형에 의존한다는 전제로 문제영역의 모양을 결정하는 함수를 Fourier 급수로 전개, 분석하여 얻을 수 있다. 수치실험을 통해 그 유효성을 입증한다.

  • A numerical model to obtain the temperature distribution in a radiation shield of cryogenic systems was proposed. Conformal mapping was used to transform the eccentric physical region of the upper plate to the concentric numerical region. The effects of the thickness of the radiation shield, the emissivities of the vacuum chamber and the radiation shield, and the eccentricity between the centers of the upper plate and the contact area with a cryocooler on the maximum temperature difference in a radiation shield were shown.

  • 등각사상은 함수론의 기본적인 문제의 하나로 물리학, 공학 등에 응용되고 있다. 예를 들어 선박이나 비행기의 모양을 고려할 때 나타나는 유체의 문제등에 유용하게 쓰이고 있다. 본 논문에서는 단위원 내부로부터 Jordan 영역 내부에로의 수치등각사상을 구하는 문제를 다루는데 이것은 비선형 적분방정식인 Theodorsen방정식을 푸는 것으로 귀착된다. Theodorsen방정식을 구하는 해법 중 Wegmann의 방법은 계산량에 있어서 가장 유효하다고 알려져 있다. 그러나 수치실험을 통하여 난이도가 높은 문제에 있어 수렴하지 않는 문제점을 발견하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 수렴하지 않는 불안정의 원인을 이론적으로 분석하고 저주파필터에 의하여 개선한 방법을 제안한다. 개선한 방법에 의한 수치 실험결과를 보고한다.

Some general properties in the degenerate scale problem of antiplane elasticity or Laplace equation

  • This paper investigates some general properties in the degenerate scale problem of antiplane elasticity or Laplace equation. For a given configuration, the degenerate scale problem is solved by using conformal mapping technique, or by using the null field BIE (boundary integral equation) numerically. After solving the problem, we can define and evaluate the degenerate area which is defined by the area enclosed by the contour in the degenerate configuration. It is found that the degenerate area is an important parameter in the problem. After using the conformal mapping, the degenerate area can be easily evaluated. The degenerate area for many configurations, from triangle, quadrilles and N-gon configuration are evaluated numerically. Most properties studied can only be found by numerical computation. The investigated properties provide a deeper understanding for the degenerate scale problem.

고차 등매개요소에서 내부절점의 위치와 해의 안정성 연구 (A study on the solution stability by the position of internal nodes in hihger order isoparametric elements)

  • Higher order isoparametric elements are usually used in the finite element analysis because they can represent easily the geometric shape of a complex structure ad can improve the solution quality. When these elements are used, the position of internal nodes affects greatly on the solution accuracy. Decreasing of the accuracy related to the position of internal nodes is due to non-conformal mapping often results in an unstable Jacobian value. This paper, in order to remove this difficulty, suggests a modified shape function which can establish conformal mapping between two coordinate systems. Numerical experiments with the proposed shape function show that a stable solution can be obtained without respect to the position of internal nodes, and offer convenience that one can take arbitrarily the position of internal nodes considering only the geometric shape of element boundaries.

등각사상에 의한 대칭 스트립 전송선의 고차모드 차단주파수의 변분적 계산 (Variational Calculations for Higher Order Mode Cut-off Frequencies of Symmetrical Striplines by the Conformal Mapping)

  • 등각사상이 결합된 변분적 유한요소법을 이용하여 대칭 스트립 전송선의 고차모드 차단주파수를 계산한다. 등각사상은 스트립 전송선의 무한영역을 적절한 유한영역으로 변환하는데 사용된다. 변환된 유한영역에 대한 변분 방정식을 유도하고 유한요소법으로 그 해를 구하여 차단주파수를 계산한다. 다른 해석법에 의한 결과와 비교하여 이 해석법이 무한영역이 포함된 전송선의 고차모드 차단주파수 계산에 적합함을 확인한다.

We proposed as an improved method for convergence by applying a low frequency filter to the Wegmann's method. In this paper, we investigate error analysis and propose an automatic algorithm based on this analysis.
