This paper presents a new neural network control for nonlinear bridge systems with earthquake excitation. We design multi-layer neural network controllers with a single hidden layer. The selection of an optimal number of neurons in the hidden layer is an important design step for control performance. To select an optimal number of hidden neurons, we progressively add one hidden neuron and observe the change in a performance measure given by the weighted sum of the system error and the control force. The number of hidden neurons which minimizes the performance measure is selected for implementation. A neural network was trained for mitigating vibrations of bridge systems caused by El Centro earthquake. We applied the proposed control approach to a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) and a two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) bridge system. We assessed the robustness of the control system using randomly generated earthquake excitations which were not used in training the neural network. Our results show that the neural network controller drastically mitigates the effect of the disturbance.

The purpose of the present study is to examine the heat transport limitations in a screen mesh heat pipe for electronic cooling by theoretical analysis. Diameter of pipe was 6mm, and mesh numbers were 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250, and water was investigated as working fluid. According to the change of mesh number, wick layer, inclination and saturation temperature, the maximum heat transport limitations by capillary, entraintment, sonic and boiling were analyzed by a theoretical design method of heat pipe, including capillary pressure, pumping pressure, liquid friction coefficient in wick, vapor friction coefficient, etc. Based on the results, the capillary limitation in a small diameter of heat pipe is largely affected by mesh number and wick layer. Mesh number of 250 is desirable not to be used in pipe diameter of 6 mm, because capillary heat transport limitation decreases by the abrupt increase of liquid friction pressure due to the small liquid flow area. For the heat transport of 15 watt in 6mm diameter pipe, mesh number of 100 and one layer is an optimum wick condition, which thermal resistance is the smallest.

Titanium oxide ($TiO_2$) thin films were synthesized on polymer insulator and Si substrates by atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. The surface and electrical properties of $TiO_2$ films synthesized at various ALD cycle numbers were investigated. The synthesized $TiO_2$ films exhibited higher contact angle and smooth surface. The contact angle of $TiO_2$ films was increased with the increase of ALD-cycle number. Also, the rms surface roughness of films was slightly rough with the increase of ALD-cycle number. The leakage current on $TiO_2$ film surface synthesized at various conditions were uniformed, and the values were decreased with the increase of ALD-cycle number. In the results, the performance of $TiO_2$ films for self-cleaning critically depended on a number of ALD-cycle.
We have investigated the changes in magnetoresistive characteristics, interfacial roughness, and preferred orientation with the Fe buffer layer thickness, annealing temperature, and the stacking number of layers variation in Fe/[NiFe/Cu] multilayers by using the 3-gun d.c. magnetron sputtering method. Intensity of the (200) orientation was increased with the increment of the Fe-buffer layer thickness. We found a maximum magnetoresistance ration of 4.7%, when the buffer layer thickness was 70$\AA$, and the field sensitivity also showed a maximum value at the same thickness. We varied the stacking number of multilayers with fixing the Fe buffer layer thickness of 70$\AA$. When the stacking number was 40 layers, maximum MR ratio(5.3%) was observed. With the variation of annealing temperature no change in the MR ratio was found beyond $300^{\circ}C$. But decrement of MR ratio was observed above $300^{\circ}C$. This decrement of the MR ratio was responsible for the increment of paramagnetic mixed layer caused by the diffusion of Cu layer and the change of antiferromagnetic coupling.

In this paper, we introduce a dependence of number of nodes of hidden-layer in fall detection system using Long Short-Term Memory that can detect falls. Its training is carried out using the parameter theta(θ), which indicates the angle formed by the x, y, and z-axis data for the direction of gravity using a 3-axis acceleration sensor. In its learning, validation is performed and divided into training data and test data in a ratio of 8:2, and training is performed by changing the number of nodes in the hidden layer to increase efficiency. When the number of nodes is 128, the best accuracy is shown with Accuracy = 99.82%, Specificity = 99.58%, and Sensitivity = 100%.

Back propagation algorithm based on a gradient-decent method has been widely used to the training of a neural network. However, this algorithm have some problems such as dropping the minimum value in a local area according to an initial value and setting the number of units in a hidden layer when training the neural network. Accordingly, to solve the above-mentioned problems, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm using the training method of the neural network. Thus, the improved genetic algorithm using a new crossover and mutation method is proposed to discriminate 3 bit parity. Experiments confirm that the proposed system is effective for training speed after demonstrating for generation gap, the number of units in the hidden layer, and the number of individuals.

A Navier-Stokes code with a low Reynolds number k-.epsilon. turbulence model was tested to investigate its predictability for the unsteady transitional boundary layer flow due to rotor-stator interaction. A preliminary calculation with three different numbers of time steps 300, 600, and 1000 for a rotor wake passing period was carried out to see the effects of time steps on the unsteady flow and pressure fields due to rotor-stator interaction. Numerical solutions showed that unsteady pressure was much more sensitive to the number of time steps and over 600 time steps should be used to get a numerical solution independent of the number of time steps for a rotor wake passing period. The original low Reynolds number k-.epsilon. turbulence model showed very poor prediction of the unsteady transitional boundary layer flow due to rotor-stator interaction. This was due to the excessive production of turbulent kinetic energy near the leading edge. A modification suggested by Launder was incorporated and the modified model captured well the wake induced transitional strip. Present solutions also showed improved prediction over previous Euler/boundary layer solution in terms of the onset of unsteady transition and its extent.
A numerical study is made of the spin-up from rest of a three-layer fluid in a closed, vertically-mounted cylinder. The densities in the upper layer $\rho_1$, middle layer $\rho_2$ and lower layer $\rho_3\;are\;\rho_3\;>\;\rho_2\;>\;\rho_1$, and the kinematic viscosities are left arbitrary. The representative system Ekman number is small. Numerical solutions are obtained to the time-dependent axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations, and the treatment of the interfaces is modeled by use of the Height of Liquid method. Complete three-component velocity fields, together with the evolution of the interface deformations, are depicted. At small times, when the kinematic viscosity in the upper layer is smaller than in the middle layer, the top interface rises (sinks) in the central axis (peripheral) region. When the kinematic viscosity in the lower layer is smaller than in the middle layer, the bottom interface rises (sinks) in the periphery (axis) region. Detailed shapes of interfaces are illustrated for several cases of exemplary viscosity ratios.
Five layers in mean flow are proposed by using the direct numerical simulation data of turbulent pipe flow up to Reτ = 3008. Viscous sublayer, buffer layer, mesolayer, log layer and core region are investigated. In the buffer layer, the viscous force is counterbalanced by the turbulent inertia from the streamwise mean momentum balance, and a log law occurs here. The overlap layer is composed of the mesolayer and the log layer. Above the buffer layer, the non-negligible viscous force causes the power law, and this region is the mesolayer, where it is the lower part of the overlap layer. At the upper part of the overlap layer, where the viscous force itself becomes naturally negligible, the log layer will appear due to that the acceleration force of the large-scale motions increases as the Reynolds number increases. In the core region, the velocity-defect form is satisfied with the power-law scaling.

We fabricate encapsulation-layer of OLED panel from organic-inorganic hybrid thin film by atomic layer deposition (ALD) molecular layer deposition (MLD) using Al2O3 as ALD process and Adipoyl Chloride (AC) and 1,4-Butanediamine as MLD process. Ellipsometry was employed to verify self-limiting reaction of MLD. Linear relationship between number of cycle and thickness was obtained. By such investigation, we found that desirable organic thin film fabrication is possible by MLD surface reaction in monolayer scale. Purging was carried out after dosing of each precursor to eliminate physically adsorbed precursor with surface. We also confirmed roughness of the organic thin film by atomic force microscopy (AFM). We deposit AC and 1,4-Butanediamine at $70^{\circ}C$ and investigated surface roughness as a function of increasing thickness of organic thin film. We confirmed precursor's functional group by IR spectrum. We calculated WVTR of organic-inorganic hybrid super-lattice epitaxial layer using Ca test. WVTR indicates super-lattice film can be possibly use as encapsulation in flexible devices.
