  • This paper deals with a new multi-level high voltage source inverter with GTO Thyristors. Recently, a multi-level approach seems to be the best suited for implementing high voltage conversion systems because it leads to harmonic reduction and deals with safe high power conversion systems independent of the dynamic switching characteristics of each power semiconductor device. A conventional multi-level inverter has some problems; voltage unbalance between DC-link capacitors and larger blocking voltage across the inner switching devices. To solve these problems, the novel multi-level inverter structure is proposed.

  • This review covers current developments in molecular-based studies of the structure and function of carboxylesterases. To allay the confusion of the classic classification of carboxylesterase isozymes, we have proposed a novel nomenclature and classification of mammalian carboxylesterases on the basis of molecular properties. In addition, mechanisms of regulation of gene expression of carboxylesterases by xenobiotics, and involvement of carboxylesterase in drug metabolism are also described.

  • The structural topology optimization presented in this paper is based on an evolutionary procedure, developed by Xie and Steven, in which the low stressed material of a structure is removed from the structure step-by-step until an optimal design is obtained. By appling this procedure a layout or topology of a structure can be found from a initial block of material. The purpose of this paper is to implement the evolutionary procedure, introduce some novel features and investigate its feasibility by studying a few examples.

  • The defected ground structure (DGS) for microstrip structure can be used to protect analog/RF signal from SSN interference of digital circuits on PCB with common ground. However, the basic DGS gives rise to undesired emissions that may interfere with nearby circuitry due to the ground discontinuity. In this paper, we have proposed the modified structure, Corrugated DGS and the method to reduce the radiation by adding the lumped resistor on the proposed Corrugated DGS.

  • In this paper, low-pass filters using DGS-CPW cell are suggested. The bandwidth of stopband is extended up to 3 times of cutoff frequency. The novel DGS-CPW cell reduces the size of the circuit. This structure can be used in microwave and milimeter-wave circuits.

  • The goal of this study is to realize the PBG lowpass filter using novel PBG structure modification both upper layer and ground layer. It has been designed three aperture slots of ground layer for PBG structure which the center slot shape of ground is two type, rectangular and dumbbell. This PBG LPF llas the character of the broader stopband and smaller size than typical LPF. The measurement results have matched the simulated ones. It has the cutoff frequency of each 4.4650Hz and 3.520Hz and at least -2OdB of the signal suppression at the stopband.

  • We have investigated the electrical characteristics of the poly-Si TFT's with the novel gate insulator structure. The gate insulator makes the offset region to reduce leakage current, and the electrical characteristics are obtained by employing Virtual Wafer Fab. simulator. As increases the gate insulator thickness above the offset region of this structure from $0{\AA}$ to $2000{\AA}$, the OFF state current at $V_G$=10V decrease by two orders in magnitude while ON state current doesn't decrease significantly. ON/OFF current ratios for conventional device and the proposed device with $2000{\AA}$ gate insulator thickness are $1.68{\times}10^5$ and $1.07{\times}10^7$, respectively.

  • In this paper a bridge flutter prediction is performed by using advanced numerical simulation. Two novel approaches were developed simultaneously by utilizing the ANSYS v12.1 commercial software package. The first one is a fluid-structure interaction simulation involving the three-dimensional elastic motion of a bridge deck and the fluid flow around it. The second one is an updated forced oscillation technique based on the dynamic mode shapes of the bridge. An aeroelastic wind tunnel model was constructed in order to validate the numerical results. Good agreement between the numerical results and the measurements proves the applicability of the novel methods in bridge flutter assessment.

  • Novel azopyrazolin-5-one dyes 4a-f were synthesized by the regioselective reaction of phenylhydrazine with 2,3,4-chromantrione-3-arylhydrazones 2a-f. The acid dissociation constants $pK_a$ for the series prepared were determined and correlated by the Hammett equation. The results of such correlation together with the spectral data indicated that the studied compounds exist predominantly in the hydrazone keto structure, (D) as the Z-configuration. The dyes were applied to polyester fabrics, affording orange-yellow shades and assessments of their dyeing performance are considered. Further, the compounds 4a-f were screened for their antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms.

  • The nonorthogonality between the real and imaginary FBMC/OQAM modulated signals complicates the channel estimation (CE) process, and conventional OFDM CE methods cannot be directly applied to FBMC/OQAM. The conventional preamble-based CE schemes in FBMC/OQAM systems are mainly based on the interference approximation method (IAM) to improve the estimation performance. In this paper, we develop a novel preamble structure to improve the CE performance. We exploit the symmetry pattern to cancel interference and take into account the interference weights in this symmetric structure. The conventional preamble and the proposed preamble are compared via simulations in the IEEE 802.22, 3GPP Vehicular A and Pedestrian A channels. Numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed preamble can achieve better bit error ratio (BER) and mean squared error (MSE) performance under the three channel models considered.
