  • Climate changes from global warming and reduction in agricultural land result in volatility of prices of agricultural products, causing a imbalance of food market in Korea. It is necessary to develop a transnational food industry cooperation system among Korea, China and Russia that directly or indirectly affect food industry in terms of the whole industrial network. This study analyzes the value chain and linkage in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries in three nations. The unit structure and the industrial patterns of three nations were derived using the World Input-output Table (WIOT) from 2004 to 2014 every five years. This paper is expected to contribute to develop food security cooperation in the northern part of the Korean peninsula and to promote the mutual growth of food industry through industry linkage and cooperation.

  • This survey report introduced briefly peat deposits in SAKHALIN island of eastern SIBERIA continent. Peat industry was promoted as leading resources for development in this island by national control economic plan of central government before CIS. But development of deposit was left suspension of operation due to investment now. In southern area, about 10km from Yuzunosakhalinsk, two deposits of peat field were explored. One of them (Troisk) was suspended at begining stage of peat harvest from 300ha field and the other(Missilop) was producing the compact peat through drying and pulverizing from 350ha peat field which showed long run harvest activities. There are plenty of peat deposits near the Polonai Reika (river) in the central area of this island, At Zbaikaritz, 40km nothern area from Polonaisk, 135ha of peat field was developed. This field was left without working but established field preparation and could be able to be harvested any time if machines and utlities were settled. At southern suburb 10km from Polonaisk, about 40ha field of virgin deposit has been established planning for development. The plan involved estimated amount of peat, deposit depth, water level, drainage and leading road. The most of peat deposits accumulated from sphagnum moss. Texture is coarse but it contains more than 95% of organic carbon near to 0.5% of total nitrogen and acidity showed pH4-5.

  • The border area between the South and North Korea is considered a stage for promoting Green Détent through the transformation of the Demilitarized Zone into the Green Peace Zone. This paper proposes 'Prosuming-index' composed of items to evaluate the multi-layered nature of industrial and infrastructure projects in the ecological and environmental fields planned in the border area. Based on the prosuming-index, we derived the following four types of potential for Green Detent practice in the border area-first, the Incheon and Ganghwa regions as 'a logistics/human network and agricultural/fishery production area', second, the northern Gyeonggi region as a 'cooperative network area based on the smart technology industries', third, the western Gangwon and the parts of nothern Gyeonggi region, as 'a multiple prosumer's area based on carbon neutral technologies', lastly, the eastern Gangwon region, as 'a transition area from idle or aged infrastructure to green infrastructure through the renewable energy industries'.

  • The author colelcted crabs (Tribe Brachyura ) on the coasts of fourteen western islands of South Korea (Paenyong Do, Taechong Do, Sochong Do, Taeyonpyong Do, Kanghwa Do, Yongjong Do, Chagyak Do, Tokchok To. Moktok To. Pukkyoknyolbi Do. Ong Do, ANmyon Do, Pigum Do, and Taehuksan Do) mainly in summers during a period ranging from 1955 to 1962. Of these Islands, Paeknyong , Taehong, Taeyonpyong, Ong, Anmyon, Pigum and Taehuksan Do are the localities where the crabs were investigated firstly by the present author. The collections made by the author consist of 1779 specimens of crabs involving 9 families. 25 genera, 33 species and 5 subspecies (Table2). 23 species of crabs had been reported hitherto from Tokchok To and 7 from Kanghwa Do. In present paper the author adds 1 species to the fauna of crabs of Tokchok To and 7 to that of Kanghwa Do. In present paper the author adds 1 species to the fauna of crabs of Tokchok To and 7 to that of Kanghwa D. Among 38 species or subspecies of crabs collected, Oregonia gracilis, Cancer amphioetus and Chaesmagnathus convexus are new to the fauna of the west coast of Korea. 57 species of crabs are therefore identified in this area. The author collected Pinnotheres cardii on Taechong Do and Scopimera bitympana on Pigum Do. It became, therefore, clear that these two kinds of crabs occur much wider areas than known hitherto in Korea. The nothern limit of the distribution of Ocypoda stinpsoni and Sesarma haematocheir is Kyungki Bay as known already, that of Helice tridens is ,however, more northern part than Kyungki Bay, since they were collected on Paeknyong Do.

  • This study attempts to characterize Taebaek mountainous region as a natural unit, relating to morphoclimatic milieu and landform development patterns of the mountains of each lithologic type. In the case of granitic mountains of Nothern parts of this region, the slopes presents more or less steep or irregular profile because of abundant microforms of exposed bedrocks and blocks. The development of such landscape is essentially due to differential weathering, associated with difference of joint density. In the case of gneissic mountains, the slopes are well regularized straight steep ones, due not only to generalized superficial weathering but also to massmovement of weathered materials. In the Middle parts of this region, especially in Taegwallyong area, with frequent alternations both of freezing-thawing and of snow accumulation-melting, the roles played by cryo-nival processes proved to be important in weathering of granite as well as in morpho-pedogenesis. In this area, weathered mantle, developed by cryogenic activity under humid condition of nival environment, covered almost all over the slopes. Although Southern parts of this region consist of limestone, on the mountainous volume, distribution of Karst forms are limited while predominate none karst forms such as cockpit type peaks, V-shaped type valleys dissecting steep slopes covered with thin deposits in thickness containing rock debris.

  • A relationship between SST (Sea Surface Temperature) fronts and formation of fishing grounds was examined using the data on fishing conditions obtained from 41 Korean purse-seiners during the period of 1991 to 1996. Good fishing grounds observed in the southern sea of Korea and the nothern area of the East China Sea were yearly found around the frontal zone and around the marginal area of Tsushima Current which was the periphery of fronts, Also, there were several fishing grounds, which are not related to the fronts. They can be classified into the following four types : The first type was found in the warm water pocket located in the western area of Cheju Island in winter. The second type was made in a intensive bending of isobathytherm with a higher temperature in the main stream of Tsushima Current between Cheju Island and the Goto Islands in winter. The third type was formed by the topographical vortex motion near the Tsushima Island in winter and spring. The fourth type was found at the area of the reflow Sea Warm Current in southwest sea of Korea between the costal front zone and the Yellow Bottom Cold Waters in summer and autumn.

  • The geomorphological environment of Suwon Basin consists of two great elements: mountains which surround the basin and plains and low relief hills by differential erosion of granitic area. Nothern and eastern parts of the basin surround with gneissic mountains(Mt. Kwangkyo), southern and western parts of the basin with granitic mountains(Mt. Chilbo, etc). The basin developed on granitic saprolites is composed of two types of sub-order geomorphic elements: flood plains alongside four river(Whangkuji-chon, Seoho-chon, Suwon-chon, Wonchonri-chon) and aligned hills and mounts between the river side plains. While the low down lands provided the spatial condition for the extention of downtown of Suwon, the gneissic mountains have played the positive roles by high ecological dam effects with stable supply of water and purification of air, etc.
