  • This study examined effects of self-perceived obesity, peer victimization, stress, and maternal child rearing behaviors on self-esteem in an obese group(OG) and a normal weight group(NWG) of elementary school children. Subjects were 1,501 elementary school children in the 4th to the 6th grades in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Andong and their mothers. Major findings were that maternal child rearing behaviors and stress related to parents and home environments influenced children's self esteem only in the NWG; school-related stress was an influential variable on children's self esteem in both the NWG and OG. Peer victimization influenced children's self-esteem in both NWG and OG. Self-perceived obesity influenced some domains of children's self-esteem, especially in girls.

  • Fifth instar larvae of the new bivoltine hybrid (CSR2 ${\times}$ CSR5) were reared under different temperature and humidity viz., $20^{\circ}C$ and 85 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T1), $25^{\circ}C$ and 70 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T2-Optimum), $30^{\circ}C$ and 80% ${pm}$ 5 R.H (T3) and $35^{\circ}C$and 50 ${pm}$ 5% R.H (T4). The cocoon yield, cocoon characters and disease incidence were studied in normal (non infectious source, i.e control) rearing as well as in 1% infectious source of rearing. The results indicated that V instar larval duration was prolonged and cocoon weight was improved in T1. ERR and shell ratio were significantly improved and disease incidence was minimised in T2. Further significant difference was observed among the treatments with regard to spread of diseases.

  • It was first succeded in rearing the silkworm on the artificial diets in Japan in 1960. Since then, the researches on the artificial diets have been carried out intensively but the artificial diets have not been applied to the silkworm rearing practically till now. There are difficulties in rearing the silkworm on the artificial diets, such as uneven silkworm growth, higher production cost and decay. The results were not satisfactory, but the author hopefully expects that the artificial diet rearing would be possible for maintaining normal silkworm growth throughout improvement of diet composition, rearing techniques and aseptics add to the diets. Especially the author considered that the aseptic rearing will contribute to the research of sericultural science. Within a few years, the artificial diet rearing would be applied to the practical silkworm rearing.

  • Investigation of atmospheric data and rearing results was conducted to analyze the effects of atmospheric factors such as temperature and precipitation on silkworm in 8 rearing places in which local adaptation test was being conducted with different mulberry growth condition, soil and atmosphere during spring and autumn rearing season of 2006. The atmospheric characteristics of spring rearing time are as follows. The average temperatures of young silkworm, old silkworm, mounting were $17.7^{\circ}C$, $19.8^{\circ}C$, $21.5^{\circ}C$ respectively, and $1^{\circ}C$ higher than normal year. The precipitation of young silkworm, old silkworm, mounting were 15.1 mm, 6.9 mm, 7.0 mm, respectively, and 22.9 mm lower than normal year in old silkworm and mounting. The daylight hours in larval stage was 1.7 hour shorter than normal year, but no difference in mounting. Thus precipitation was lower and temperature was higher than normal year in 2006. The rearing results of 2006 were 1 kg lower than normal year in cocoon yields per 10,000 3 rd molted larvae, single cocoon weight and cocoon shell percentage were a little higher. The atmospheric characteristics of spring rearing season are as follows. The average temperatures of young silkworm, old silkworm, mounting were $25.1^{\circ}C$, $20.5^{\circ}C$ and $19.9^{\circ}C$ respectively, temperature in young silkworm was $1^{\circ}C$ higher than normal year, and temperature in old silkworm was $1.3^{\circ}C$ lower than normal year. The precipitation of young silkworm, old silkworm, mounting were 110.2 mm, 4.6 mm, 3.7 mm, respectively and there were little differences compared to normal year. The atmospheric condition of 2006 which was similar to normal year did not affect the autumn rearing results of 2006. Namely, the single cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight were not different from normal year, and the same was cocoon shell percentage.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the awareness of child rearing among parents of children in early childhood and to provide fundamental data for parent education programs according to child rearing type. Methods: Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Forty Q items which were derived from a literature review and interviews with nurturing mothers were classified into a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. Collected data were analyzed using the QUANAL PC Program. Results: Four types of parents' child rearing were identified. Type I was named 'affection-respect type', type II, 'concern-rule compliant type', type III, 'solicitude-model type', and type IV, 'geniality-encouragement type'. Conclusion: For proper growth and development during early childhood, parents should have rational information and awareness of their child rearing type. Results of this study can be used as essential data to develop child rearing education programs according to parents' child rearing attitude.

  • The recent type of dysfunctional family is caused not only by the loss of a family member, which is the traditional type of dysfunction, but also by the absence of a functional aspect. In order for a family to function healthily, it is necessary to have the right child rearing by the parents and the right parental role. Accordingly, this study is to identify the difference in stress from child rearing and the parental role in dysfunctional families, which have been increasing enormously in recent times. With this aim, 45 persons from dysfunctional families owing to divorce, 51 persons from other dysfunctional families, and 48 persons from general families were subject to a test about stress from child rearing and the parental role. As a result, for stress from child rearing, mothers in dysfunctional families perceived stress from child rearing more highly than ones in general families; and also for parental role, the level of parental role was proven lower for mothers in dysfunctional families than ones in general families.

  • This study was conducted to confirm the possible use of female Yangwonjam as a host for synnemata production of Isaria tenuipes in eight local areas in Korea. Silkworm pupation rate, infection rate and synnemata characteristics of I. tenuipes were examined. Normal silkworms had a higher pupation rate than silkworms inoculated with I. tenuipes. The pupae survival percentage of normal silkworm in cocoons was 92.5~97.6%, whereas it ranged from 91.1~95.6% in silkworms sprayed with I. tenuipes. Female Yangwonjam showed the highest survival percentage at 97.6% among the silkworm varieties tested. I. tenuipes infection rate of larvae of 5th instar newly-exuviated silkworms was 89.2~90.7% in the spring rearing season and 98.2~99.3% in the autumn rearing season. Synnemata production of I. tenuipes was excellent in female Yangwonjam with an incidence rate of 98.0% followed by male Yangwonjam (94.1%) and Baegokjam (93.3%) in the spring rearing season. Synnemata living weight ranged from 1.44~0.94 g in the spring rearing season. The female Yangwonjam had the heaviest synnemata weight (1.44 g) in the spring rearing season. The synnemata of I. tenuipes produced on pupae were white or milky-white in color, and were similar in shape and color to wild synnemata collected in Korea.

  • Objects:This study is investigated to compare psychopathology and their perceived parental rearing pattern of the children of schizophrenic mother with those of normal control group. The correlation were also assessed between perceived parenting style and problem behaviour Method:Thirty children(age 12-18) of schizophrenic mother and normal control subjects completed self-report questionnaires containing child·adolescent behaviour problem check list(K-CBCL) and Parental bonding instrument(PBI). Result:The result were as follow in the children of schizophrenic mother:1) the mean score of problem behaviour significantly higher than normal control group. 2) Parenting style was perceived to be less caring and more overprotective than in the control subject. 3) there was positive correlation between maternal overprotection and problem behaviour and negative correlation between maternal care and problem behaviour. Conclusion:We succeed in identify that the children of schizophrenic mother have more problems in social adjustment than normal control subjects. Parental rearing style are thought to be significantly negativistic in the children of schizophrenic mother. It is guessed that less caring and more overprotective rearing style of schizophrenic mother could have influence on problem behaviours of their children.
