Dynamic response of post-tensioned rocking wall-moment frames under near-fault ground excitation

  • The dynamic responses of a rocking wall-moment frame (RWMF) with a post-tensioned cable are investigated. The nonlinear equations of motions are developed, which can be categorized as a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) model. The model is validated through comparison of the rocking response of the rigid rocking wall (RRW) and displacement of the moment frame (MF) against that obtained from Finite Element analysis when subjected ground motion excitation. A comprehensive parametric analysis is carried out to determine the seismic performance factors of the RWMF systems under near-fault trigonometric pulse excitation. The horizontal displacement of the RWMF system is compared with that of MF structures without RRW, revealing the damping effect of the RRW. Frame displacement spectra excited by trigonometric pulses and recorded earthquake ground motions are constructed. The effects of pulse type, mass ratio, frame stiffness, and wall slenderness variations on the displacement spectra are presented. The paper shows that the coupling with a RRW has mixed results on suppressing the maximum displacement response of the frame.

Impact of the homogenization models on the thermoelastic response of FG plates on variable elastic foundation

  • This paper presents a theoretical investigation on the response of the thermo-mechanical bending of FG plate on variable elastic foundation. A quasi-3D higher shear deformation theory is used that contains undetermined integral forms and involves only four unknowns to derive. The FG plates are supposed simply supported with temperature-dependent material properties and subjected to nonlinear temperature rise. Various homogenization models are used to estimate the effective material properties such as temperature-dependent thermoelastic properties. Equations of motion are derived from the principle of virtual displacements and Navier's solution is used to solve the problem of simply supported plates. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of FG plate with temperature-dependent material properties are investigated. It can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the thermoelastic bending behavior of FG thick plates.

  • This paper describes a theory to calculate sound source field from the spatial transform of sound field and the measured cross-power spectrum of sound pressure over a hologram plane close to a sound source, Calculating method is proposed to solve sound pressures from cross-power spectrums over a hologram plane, For this, Taylor series for the nonlinear equations is expanded, and it is calculated using Newton-Raphon method, Also, a wave number filter is used to reduce errors that is occurred on the backward propagation, and is performed numerical simulation of the circular piston sound source with infinite baffle in water to verify the proposed theory.

  • We consider a mathematical model which describes the quasistatic frictional contact between a piezoelectric body and an electrically conductive obstacle, the so-called foundation. A nonlinear electro-viscoelastic constitutive law is used to model the piezoelectric material. Contact is described with Signorini's conditions and a version of Coulomb's law of dry friction in which the adhesion of contact surfaces is taken into account. The evolution of the bonding field is described by a first order differential equation. We derive a variational formulation for the model, in the form of a system for the displacements, the electric potential and the adhesion. Under a smallness assumption which involves only the electrical data of the problem, we prove the existence of a unique weak solution of the model. The proof is based on arguments of time-dependent quasi-variational inequalities, differential equations and Banach's fixed point theorem.

Continuous Blood Pressure Prediction Using PTT During Exercise (PTT를 이용한 자전거 운동 중 지속적인 혈압의 예측)

  • The purpose of this work is to predict the systolic blood pressure (BP) during exercise from pulse transit time (PTT) for warning of possible danger. PTT was calculated as the time between R-peak of ECG and the peak of differential photoplethysmograph (PPG). For the PTT-BP model, we used regress equations from previous studies and 3 kinds of new models combining linear and nonlinear regress equation. The model parameters were estimated with the data measured under low to middle intensity exercise, and then was tested with the data measured under high intensity exercise. Predicted BP values after high intensity exercise were compared with those measured by cuff-type sphygmomanometer. The results showed that the error between measured and predicted values were acceptable for the monitoring BP. We tested PTT-BP models 1 month after the identification without further calibration. Models could predict the BP and the errors between measured and predicted BP were about 5mmHg. The suggested system is expected to be helpful in recognizing any danger during exercise.

  • By setting a new model to describe the time-discontinuous operation of PLL loop which used tri-state and sample-hold method, the stability analysis of nonlinear PLL has been performed in z-domain and the state equations for the transient response has been introduced. Until now, the lin-ear analysis by approximation of time-discontinuous to time-continuous operation had not found then stable region of time-discontinuous digital PLL exactly. However, the analysis In z-domain by the new model has been found the unstable region where the time-continuous analysis had have not. 1'herefore the limit of loop coefficient has been computed to design digital PLL optimally.

  • The most important problem in traget tracking can be said to be modeling the tracking system correctly. Although the simple linear dynamic equation for this model has used until now, the satisfactory performance could not be obtained owing to uncertainties of the real systems in the case of designing the filters based on the dynamic equations. In this paper, we propose the extended robust Kalman filter(ERKF) which can be applied to the real target tracking system with the parameter uncertainties. To solve the robust nonlinear fettering problem, we derive the extended robust Kalman filter equation using the Krein space approach and sum quadratic constraint. We show the proposed filter has better performance than the existing extended Kalman filter(EKF) via 3-dimensional target example.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Sliding Response of Unconstrained Objects to Base Excitations (바닥진동에 의한 비구속 물체의 거동파악 실험과 수치해석 전산프로그램의 개발)

  • Safety related devices unconstrained temporally in the process of operation of nuclear power plants could be damaged by the sliding during seismic activity. In this study sliding response of unconstrained objects to the base excitations is studied experimentally and analytically. In experiments static and dynamic tests to determine the coefficient of friction and the shaking table experiments to verify the sliding response of the analytic results were conducted. Numerical solutions by solving the nonlinear differential equations of motion governing sliding were found by the computer program using the step by step acceleration method. The exact solutions of the sliding response to the simple forms of base excitations were found to verify the computer program developed in this study. Relative displacement envelopes were suggested as a colliding criteria of the unconstrained objects.

Intelligent Attitude Control of an Unmanned Helicopter

  • This paper presents a new attitude stabilization and control of an unmanned helicopter based on neural network compensation. A systematic derivation on the dynamics of an unmanned small-scale helicopter is performed. Combined rotor-fuselage-tail dynamics is derived in body-fixed reference frame with its origin at the C.G. of the helicopter. And the resulting nonlinear equation of motion consists of 6-DOF air vehicle dynamics as well as the rotor flapping and engine torque equations. A simulation model was modified using the existing simulator for an unmanned helicopter dynamic model, which reflects the unmanned test helicopter(CNUHELI). The dynamic response of the refined model was compared with the flight test data. It can be shown that a good coincidence was accomplished between the real unmanned helicopter system and the mathematical model. This dynamic model was linearized for classical controller design using small perturbation method. A Neuro-PD control system was designed for both longitudinal and lateral flight modes, and the results were compared with the PD-only control response. Simulation results show that the proposed Neuro-PD control system demonstrates better performance.

  • For a real-time quadruped robot running control, there are many important objectives to consider. In this paper, the running control architecture based on global states, which describe the cyclic target motion, and central pattern is proposed. The main goal of the controller is how the robot can have robustness to an unpredictable environment with reducing calculation burden to generate control inputs. Additional goal is construction of a single framework controller to avoid discontinuities during transition between multi-framework controllers and of a training-free controller. The global state dependent neuron network induces adaptation ability to an environment and makes the training-free controller. The central pattern based approach makes the controller have a single framework, and calculation burden is resolved by extracting dynamic equations from the control loop. In our approach, the model of the quadruped robot is designed using anatomical information of a cat, and simulated in 3D dynamic environment. The simulation results show the proposed single framework controller is robustly performed in an unpredictable sloped terrain without training.
