The effect of the vertical excitation on horizontal response of structures

  • It is usual in design and assessment of structures to isolate the effects of vertical and horizontal excitations by ignoring their coupling effects. In this situation, total structural response is obtained by employing the well-known combination rules whereby independent assumed response components of earthquakes are combined. In fact, the effects of the simultaneity of the ground motion components are ignored. In this paper, the effect of vertical excitation on horizontal response of structures, the coupling of vertical and horizontal responses, has been evaluated. A computer program is prepared to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis based on the derived governing equations of coupled motions. In the case of simultaneous excitation the results show significant increases in spectral displacement in some periods of vibration in comparison to only horizontally excited systems. Moreover, whenever ratio of the vertical peak ground acceleration to horizontal one become larger, the significant increase in horizontal spectral displacements are observed.

  • In this paper, the double displacement coupled statics and dynamics of the electromechanical integrated electrostatic harmonic drive are developed. The linearization of the nonlinear dynamic equations is completed. Based on natural frequency and mode function, the double displacement coupled forced response of the drive system to voltage excitation are obtained. Changes of the forced response along with the system parameters are investigated. The voltage excitation can cause the radial and tangent coupled forced responses of the flexible ring. The flexible ring radius, ring thickness and clearance between the ring and stator have obvious influences on the double displacement coupled forced responses.

  • This paper addresses vibration and instability of embedded functionally graded (FG)-carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced pipes conveying viscous fluid. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled by temperature-dependent orthotropic Pasternak medium. Flugge shell model is applied for mathematical modeling of structure. Based on energy method and Hamilton's principal, the motion equations are derived. Differential quadrature method (GDQM) is applied for obtaining the frequency and critical fluid velocity of system. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of CNTs, elastic medium, boundary condition and geometrical parameters are discussed.

  • Unlike a general inverted pendulum system which is moved on the cart the proposed inverted pendulum system in this paper has an inverted pendulum which is moved on the two-degree-of-freedom parallelogram link. The dynamic equation of the pendulum system activated by the DD(Direct Drive)motor includes many nonlinear terms and has the high degree of freedoms. The problem is followed hat the exact mathmatical equations can not be analized by a general linear theory However the neural network trained by a simple learning method can control the dynamic system with hard nonlinearities. Learning procedure is the backpropagation algorithm with super-visory signal. The plant inputs obtained by the designed neural network in this paper can stabilize the pendu-lem and get the servo control. Experiment results have proce the effectiveness of the designed neural network controller.

  • This paper studies on the design of an ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) looper control system for hot strip mills. The looper which is placed between each stand plays an important role in controlling strip width by regulating strip tension variation generated from the velocity difference of main work rolls. The mathematical model for looper is firstly obtained by Taylor's linearization of nonlinear differential equations, where it is given as a linear and time invariant state-space equation. Secondly, a looper servo controller is designed by ILQ control algorithm, which is an inverse problem of LQ(Linear Quadratic optimal control) control. By tunning control gain arbitration parameters and time constants, it is shown that the ILQ looper servo controller has the performance that makes well to follow desired trajectories of both strip tension and looper angle.

Robot Control of a Revolute Joint Robot (회전 관절형 로봇의 강인제어)

  • In this paper, a robust controller is proposed to control a robot manipulator which is governed by highly nonlinear dynamic equations. The controller is computationally efficient since it does not require the dynamic model or parameter values of a robot manipulator. It, however, requires uncertainty bounds which are derived by using properties of revolute joint robot dynamics. The stability of the robot with the controller is proved by using Lyapunov's direct method. The results of computer simulations also show that the robot system is stable, and has excellent trajectory tracking performance.

  • A simplified modeling approach of forced vibration for occupied car seats was demonstrated by using a mathematical model presented in previous paper. Nonlinear and linear equations of motions were rederived for forced vibration, and the transfer function was used to calculate the frequency response function. The experimental apparatus were set up and hydraulic shaker was used to obtain the system responses. Through the tests, mannequin's head had a lot of problems, and the responses with a head and without a head were measured. To explore the effects of linear dampings and friction moments at the joints, linear analyses were performed. New sets of linear spring and damping coefficients, and torsional dampings at the joints were calculated through parameter study to match up with experimental results. Good agreement between experimental and simulation frequency response estimates were obtained both in terms of locations of resonances and system deflection shapes at resonance, indicating that this is a feasible method of modeling seated occupants.

  • Continuous-time controller design is proposed using feedback system identification in frequency domain. System stability imposed by a new controller is checked in the function of a conventional closed-loop system, instead of a poorly modeled plant due to non-linearity and disturbance as well as unstable components, etc. The stability of the system is evaluated in view of Nyquist stability. All the equations are formulated in the framework of the discrete-time system. Simulation results are shown on the plant with input saturation and DC disturbance.

  • 이 논문에서는 Diruchlet 경계 조건을 갖는 비선형 타원형 방정식 $-{\Delta}u+g(u)=f(x)$의 해의 존재에 대한 연구를 하였다. 존재하는 해의 다중성을 증명하기 위하여 임계점 이론과 롤의 정리를 사용하였으며, 대응되는 범함수에 따라서 방정식의 해와 임계점이 동시에 나타난다는 정리를 이용하였다. 이 때 $g(u)=bu^+-au^-$으로 나타날 때 외력항 (방정식의 우변)의 상수로 주어지는 경우 적어도 두 개의 해가 존재한다는 것을 증명하였다. 만약 우변(외력항)의 상수가 음수이거나 0인 경우이 방정식의 해가 존재하지 않거나 자명한 해만 존재하기 때문에 상수는 양수인 것으로 가정하였다.

A Calculation Method on Heat Flux from Ondol Floor Surface (온돌면(溫突面)의 방열량(放熱量) 산정방법(算定方法)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Until recently there was a lack of reliable performance data for the design and operation of Ondol heating systems. This paper presents a calculation method on heat flux from Ondol floor surface. Total heat flux from floor consists of radiation and convection component. In order to analyse the characteristics of both radiation and convection heat flux, each surface temperature is measured and several temperatures near each wall are measured vertically and horizontally in a practical Ondol heating space. Radiation heat flux is calculated and analysed by Gebhart's Absorption Factor Method with the consideration of instantaneous radiant exchanges. Convection heat output is derived from the vertical temperature profiles near floor. The vertical temperature profiles could be expressed by nonlinear regression equation models and convection coefficients could be estimated by the equations. As a result, radiation, convection and total heat flux are suggested by the expression of difference between floor surface and room air temperature.
