The purpose of this paper is to present a new nonlinear feedback control called AACC (Augmented automatic choosing control) for nonlinear systems. Generally, it is easy to design the optimal control laws for linear systems, but it is not so for nonlinear systems, though they have been studied for many years. One of most popular and practical nonlinear control laws is synthesized by applying a linearization method by Taylor expansion truncated at the first order and the linear optimal control method. This is only effective in a small region around the steady state point or in almost linear systems. Controllers based on a change of coordinates in differential geometry are effective in wider...
In this paper, we consider an optimal control problem of a nonlinear stochastic system. Dynamic programming approach is employed for the formulation of a stochastic optimal control problem. As an optimality condition, dynamic programming equation so called the Bellman equation is obtained, which seldom yields an analytical solution, even very difficult to solve numerically. We obtain the numerical solution of the Bellman equation using an algorithm based on the finite difference approximation and the contraction mapping method. Optimal controls are constructed through the solution process of the Bellman equation. We also construct a test case in order to investigate the actual performance of the algorithm.
A tubular reactor model represented by partial differential equations was studied as one of nonlinear distributed parameter optimal control problems. An optimal control theory in the form of maximum principles based on nonlinear integral equations was used to develop an algorithm to solve the problem.
In this paper we use iterative dynamic programming in the discrete case to solve a wide range of the nonlinear equations systems. First, by defining an error function, we transform the problem to an optimal control problem in discrete case. In using iterative dynamic programming to solve optimal control problems up to now, we have broken up the problem into a number of stages and assumed that the performance index could always be expressed explicitly in terms of the state variables at the last stage. This provided a scheme where we could proceed backwards in a systematic way, carrying out optimization at each stage. Suppose that the performance index can not be expressed in terms of the variables at the last stage only. In other words, suppose the performance index is also a function of controls and variables at the other stages. Then we have a nonseparable optimal control problem. Furthermore, we obtain the path from the initial point up to the approximate solution.
For feedback control of a linear dynamic system the optimum linear slace regulator (OLSR) can be implemented only if all state are available for feedback. This work demonstrates that when only the output state is available for feedback, a nonlinear controllers can be improved performance over that obtained by a proportional controller. This paper found the optimal control law by well-known dynamic programming and principles of optimality. Thus, performance of both proportional and nonlinear controllers is compared with performance of optimum linear state regulator.

The design and implementation of Generalized Minimum Variance control laws for nonlinear multivariable systems that can include severe nonlinearities is considered. The quadratic cost index minimised involves dynamically weighted error and nonlinear control signal costing terms. The aim here is to show the controller obtained is simple to design and implement. The features of the control law are explored. The controller obtained includes an internal model of the process and in one form is a nonlinear version of the Smith Predictor.
In this paper, we investigate a priori error estimates and superconvergence of varitional discretization for nonlinear parabolic optimal control problems with control constraints. The time discretization is based on the backward Euler method. The state and the adjoint state are approximated by piecewise linear functions and the control is not directly discretized. We derive a priori error estimates for the control and superconvergence between the numerical solution and elliptic projection for the state and the adjoint state and present a numerical example for illustrating our theoretical results.

Two-wheeled driying mobild robots are precise controlled in terms of linear contol methods without considering the nonlinear dynamical characteristics. However, in the high maneuvering situations such as fast turn and abrupt start and stop, such neglected terms become dominant and heavy influence the overall driving performance. This study describes the nonlinear optimal control method to take advantage of the exact nonlinear dynamics of the balancing robot. Simulation results indicate that the optimal control outperforms in the respect of transient performance and required wheel torques. A design example is suggested for the state matrix that provides design flexibility in the control. It is shown that a well-planned state matrix by reflecting the physics of a balancing robot greatly conrtibutes to the driving performance and stability.
Both parametric and parameter-free necessary and sufficient optimality conditions are established for a class of nondiffer-entiable nonconvex optimal control problems with generalized fractional objective functions, linear dynamics, and nonlinear inequality constraints on both the state and control variables. Based on these optimality results, ten Wolfe-type parametric and parameter-free duality models are formulated and weak, strong, and strict converse duality theorems are proved. These duality results contain, as special cases, similar results for minmax fractional optimal control problems involving square roots of positive semi definite quadratic forms, and for optimal control problems with fractional, discrete max, and conventional objective functions, which are particular cases of the main problem considered in this paper. The duality models presented here contain various extensions of a number of existing duality formulations for convex control problems, and subsume continuous-time generalizations of a great variety of similar dual problems investigated previously in the area of finite-dimensional nonlinear programming.

Overhead cranes consist of trolley, girder, rope, objects, trolley motor, girder motor, and hoist motor. If objects are regarded as mass point, and the acceleration of hoisting motion for objects is neglected, analytical model of overhead cranes becomes a nonlinear model because the length of a rope changes. Equations of motion this model is derived of simultaneous differential equations fur motors and object. Positions of the model are controlled by optimal inputs which obtain from a nonlinear optimal control method. From the results of computer simulation, even if initial states of objects suing, it is founded that position of overhead cranes is controlled, and that swing of objects is suppressed.
