Due to nonlinear-synthetic uncertainty including the total unknown nonlinear load torque, the total parameter variation and the fixed load torque, a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) driving a continuously variable transmission (CVT) system causes a lot of nonlinear effects. Linear control methods make it hard to achieve good control performance. To increase the control performance and reduce the influence of nonlinear time-synthetic uncertainty, an admixed recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomials neural network (ARGOPNN) with a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) control system is proposed to achieve better control performance. The ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system is composed of an observer controller, a recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomial neural network (RGOPNN) controller and a remunerated controller. To insure the stability of the control system, the RGOPNN controller with an adaptive law and the remunerated controller with a reckoned law are derived according to the Lyapunov stability theorem. In addition, the two learning rates of the weights in the RGOPNN are regulating by using the MPSO algorithm to enhance convergence. Finally, three types of experimental results with comparative studies are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system.

The recent earthquake in Korea caused a lot of damage to reinforced concrete (RC) columns with non-seismic details. The nonlinear analysis enables predicting the hysteresis behavior of RC columns under earthquakes, but the analytical model used for the columns must be accurate and practical. This paper studied the nonlinear analysis models built into a commercial structural analysis program for the existing RC columns. The load-displacement relationships, maximum strength, initial stiffness, and energy dissipation predicted by the three analysis models were compared and analyzed. The results were similar to those tested in the order of the fiber, Pivot, and Takeda models, whereas the fiber model took the most time to build. For columns subjected to axial load, the Pivot model could predict the behavior at a similar level to that of the fiber model. Based on the above, it is expected that the Pivot model can be applied most practically for existing RC columns.

The purpose of this study is that to develop computer program, which is about to analy size nonlinear behaviour of elastic framed structures include to geometric & material nonlineality, and to formulate between stress-strain relationship. In order to examplity the efficiency of this program, a few analytical results have been obtained on : (1) nonlinear behaviour of beam which is subject to vertical force (2) nonlinear behaviour of portal frame which is subject to vertical & horizontal force.

The behavior of composite beams, which are composed of cold-formed steel sheeting and normal strength concrete, have been studied. An analytical method has been developed to trace the nonlinear behavior of composite beams. The nonlinear material properties of steel sheeting, reinforcing steel bar and concrete have been included in the analysis. The nonlinear moment-curvature relation of the composite beam has been described using a cross section analysis method and a simple power model, separately. The load-deflection behavior of the beams has been simulated by step-by-step numerical integration method and is compared with test results.

A component based method out of load modeling is to aggregate component load model according to the composition rate of each component load at load bus based on the circuit theory. But the most of component loads respond complex nonlinear characteristics respect to voltage and frequency variation due to the control techniques and semiconductor elements applied to component load. It needs to verify this approach through actual experiment of the aggregation of component load even if it can be down. To identify this aggregation method well known, this paper is proposed the classifying method of component load characteristics for component loads to group by quantitative analysis. The component load characteristics were divided into several types by KSOM (kohonen self organizing map), which can classify multi-dimension vector, component load pattern, into two-dimension vector. Some ambiguous cases happened from KSOM were classified by the proposed closing degree.

Nonlinear response structural optimization is performed using equivalent loads (NROEL). Nonlinear response optimization is extremely cost because many nonlinear analyses are required. In NROEL, the external loads are transformed to the equivalent loads (EL) for linear static analysis and linear response optimization is carried out based on the EL in a cyclic manner until the convergence criteria are satisfied. EL is the load set which generates the same response field of linear analysis as that of nonlinear analysis. The primitive from of theory has been published. In this research, the theory is investigated with large scale example problems. Four examples are solved by using NROEL. Conventional optimization with sensitivity analysis using the finite difference method (FDM) is also applied to the same examples. Moreover, response surface optimization method is applied to the last two examples. The results of the optimizations are compared. In nonlinear response optimization of large scale problems, hundreds (or even thousands) of nonlinear analyses are expected to satisfy the convergence criteria. However, in nonlinear response optimization using equivalent loads, only tens of nonlinear analyses are required. The results are discussed and the usefulness of NROEL is presented.
The objective of this work is to analyze geometrically nonlinear static analysis a simply supported laminated composite beam subjected to a non-follower transversal point load at the midpoint of the beam. In the nonlinear model of the laminated beam, total Lagrangian finite element model of is used in conjunction with the Timoshenko beam theory. The considered non-linear problem is solved considering full geometric non-linearity by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. There is no restriction on the magnitudes of deflections and rotations in contradistinction to von-Karman strain displacement relations of the beam. In the numerical results, the effects of the fiber orientation angles and the stacking sequence of laminates on the nonlinear deflections and stresses of the composite laminated beam are examined and discussed. Convergence study is performed. Also, the difference between the geometrically linear and nonlinear analysis of laminated beam is investigated in detail.
Limit load of pressure bearing structures was reviewed in this article. By means of the finite element analysis, limit load of pressurized cylinder with nozzle was taken as an example. Stress classification method and Elastic-plastic finite element analysis combining with limit load determination methods were used to determine limit load of cylinder with nozzle. Comparison of limit load determined by different methods, the results indicated that limit load determined by linearization method was the smallest. Limit load determined by twice elastic slope criterion was the nearest than experimental results. Elastic-plastic finite element analysis had comparably computational precision, but required time consuming. And then the requirements of computer processing and storage capacity by power system became higher and higher. Most of criteria for limit load estimation included any human factors based on a certain substantive characteristics of experimental results. The reasonable criterion should be objective and operational.

The calibration of resistance factor in reliability theory for limit state design of gravel compaction piles (GCP) requires a reliable estimate of ultimate bearing capacity. The static load test is commonly used in geotechnical engineering practice to predict the ultimate bearing capacity. Many graphical methods are specified in the design standard to define the ultimate bearing capacity based on the load-settlement curve. However, it has some disadvantages to ensure reliability to obtain an uniform ultimate load depend on engineering judgement. In this study, a well-fitting nonlinear regression model is proposed to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity, for which a nonlinear regression analysis is applied to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of GCP and the results are compared with those calculated using previous graphical method. Affect the resistance factor of the estimate method were analyzed. To provide a database in the development of limit state design, the load test conditions for predicting the ultimate bearing capacity from static load test are examined.
In this study, a numerical method for the material nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete shell structures including the time dependent effects due to creep and shrinkage is developed. Degenerate shell elements with the layered approach are used. The perfect or strain hardening plasticity model in compression and the linearly elastic model in tension until cracking for concrete are employed. The reinforcing bars are considered as a steel layer of equivalent thickness. Each :steel layer has an uniaxial behaviour resisting only the axial force in the bar direction. A bilinear idealization is adopted to model elasto-plastic stress-strain relationships. For the nonlinear anaysis, incremental load method combined with unbalanced load iterations for each load increment is used. To include time dependent effects of concrete, time domain is divided into several time steps which may have different length. Some numerical examples are presented to study the validity and applicability of the present method. The results are compared with experimental and numerical results obtained by other investigator.
