Distributed consensus requires the consent of more than half of the congress to produce irreversible results, and the performance of the consensus algorithm deteriorates with the increase in the number of nodes. This problem can be addressed by delegating the agreement to a few selected nodes. Since the selected nodes must comply with the Byzantine node ratio criteria required by the algorithm, the result selected by any decentralized node cannot be trusted. However, some trusted nodes monopolize the consensus node selection process, thereby breaking decentralization and causing a trilemma. Therefore, a consensus node selection algorithm is required that can construct a congress that can withstand Byzantine faults with the decentralized method. In this paper, an algorithm based on the Byzantine agreement among decentralized agents to facilitate agreement between decentralization nodes is proposed. It selects a group of random consensus nodes per block by applying the proposed proof of nonce algorithm. By controlling the percentage of Byzantine included in the selected nodes, it solves the trilemma when an arbitrary node selects the consensus nodes.
In line with the advanced wireless communication technology, M2M (Machine-to-Machine) communication has drawn attention in industry. M2M communication features are installed and operated in the fields where human accessibility is highly limited such as disaster, safety, construction, health and welfare, climate, environment, logistics, culture, defense, medical care, agriculture and stockbreeding. In M2M communication, machine replaces people for automatic communication and countermeasures as part of unmanned information management and machine operation. Wireless M2M inter-device communication is likely to be exposed to intruders' attacks, causing security issues, which warrants proper security measures including cross-authentication of whether devices are legitimate. Therefore, research on multiple security protocols has been conducted. The present study applied SessionKey, HashFunction and Nonce to address security issues in M2M communication and proposed a safe protocol with reinforced security properties. Notably, unlike most previous studies arguing for the security of certain protocols based on mathematical theorem proving, the present study used the formal verification with Casper/FDR to prove the safety of the proposed protocol. In short, the proposed protocol was found to be safe and secure.

Recently Yoon et al. proposed the remote user authentication scheme using smart cards. But their scheme has not satisfied security requirements which should be considered in the user authentication scheme using the password based smart card. In this paper, we prove that Yoon et al.'s scheme is vulnerable to a password guessing attack in case that the attacker steals the user's smart card and extracts the information from the smart card. Accordingly, this paper proposes the improved user authentication scheme based on the hash functin and random nonce that can withstand various possible attacks including a password guessing attack. The result of comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed scheme is more secure and efficient than Yoon et al.'s scheme, with a trivial trade-off to require just a few more exclusive-OR operations.

DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol for efficiency and convenience of the IP address management. DHCP automatically assigns an IP address and configuration information needed to run the TCP/IP communication to individual host in the network. However, existing DHCP is vulnerable for network attack such as DHCP spoofing, release attack because there is no mutual authentication systems between server and client. To solve this problem, we have designed a new DHCP protocol supporting the following features: First, ECDH(Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman) is used to create session key and ECDSA(Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm) is used for mutual authentication between server and client. Also this protocol ensures integrity of message by adding a HMAC(Hash-based Message Authentication Code) on the message. And replay attacks can be prevented by using a Nonce. As a result, The receiver can prevent the network attack by discarding the received message from unauthorized host.

This paper analyzes spam threats and proposes key exchange scheme for user authentication and SDP encryption to protect potential spam threats in SIP-based VoIP services. The existing HTTP digest authentication scheme exchanges many message because challenge is sent for every establishment of the session and doesn't provide a confidentiality of SDP. To protect SPIT, our scheme exchanges initial nonce and a session master key for authentication and SDP encryption during registration. In our scheme, the challenge and response procedure is not necessary and the communication overhead is much less than applying S/MIME or TLS.
This paper proposes the DDMPF(Distributed Data Management Protocol using FAT) which prevents data loss and keeps the security of self-organized storages by comprising a client, a storage server, and a verification server in clouding environment. The DDMPF builds a self-organized storage server, solves data loss by decentralizing the partitioned data in it in contrast to the centralized problem and the data loss caused by the storage server problems of existing clouding storages, and improves the efficiency of distributed data management with FAT(File Allocation Table). And, the DDMPF improves the reliability of data by a verification server's verifying the data integrity of a storage server, and strengthens the security in double encryption with a client's private key and the system's master key using EC-DH algorithm. Additionally, the DDMPF limits the number of verification servers and detects the flooding attack by setting the TS(Time Stamp) for a verification request message and the replay attack by using the nonce value generated newly, whenever the verification is requested.
To solve user authentication problem, many remote user authentication schemes using password and smart card at the same time have been proposed. Due to the increasing of interest in personal privacy, there were some recent researches to provide user anonymity. In 2004, Das et al. firstly proposed an authentication scheme that guarantees user anonymity using a dynamic ID. In 2005, Chien et al. pointed out that Das et al.'s scheme has a vulnerability for guaranteing user anonymity and proposed an improved scheme. However their authentication scheme was found some weaknesses about insider attack, DoS attack, and restricted replay attack. In this paper, we propose an enhanced scheme which can remove vulnerabilities of Chien et al.'s scheme. The proposed authentication protocol prevented insider attack by using user's Nonce value and removed the restricted replay attack by replacing time stamp with random number. Furthermore, we improved computational efficiency by eliminating the exponentiation operation.

SIMON, a lightweight block cipher developed by the US National Security Agency, is a family of block ciphers optimized for hardware implementation. It supports many kinds of standards to operate in various environments. The counter mode of operation is one of the operational modes. It provides to encrypt plaintext which is longer than the original size. The counter mode uses a constant(Nonce) and Counter value as an input value. Since Nonce is the identical for all blocks, so it always has same result when operates with other constant values. With this feature, it is possible to skip some instructions of round function by pre-computation. In general, the input value of SIMON is affected by the counter. However in an 8-bit environment, it is calculated in 8-bit units, so there is a part that can be pre-computed. In this paper, we focus the part that can be pre-calculated, and compare with previous works.

LEA is a lightweight block cipher developed in Korea in 2013. In this paper, among block cipher operation methods, CTR operation mode and GCM operation mode that provides confidentiality and integrity are implemented. In the LEA-CTR operation mode, we propose an optimization implementation that omits the operation between states through the state fixation and omits the operation through the pre-operation by utilizing the characteristics of the fixed nonce value of the CTR operation mode. It also shows that the proposed method is applicable to the GCM operation mode, and implements the GCM through the implementation of the GHASH function using the Galois Field(2128) multiplication operation. As a result, in the case of LEA-CTR to which the proposed technique is applied on 32-bit RISC-V, it was confirmed that the performance was improved by 2% compared to the previous study. In addition, the performance of the GCM operation mode is presented so that it can be used as a performance indicator in other studies in the future.

See-In-The-Middle (SITM) is an analysis technique that uses Side-Channel information for differential cryptanalysis. This attack collects unmasked middle-round power traces when implementing block ciphers to select plaintext pairs that satisfy the attacker's differential pattern and utilize them for differential cryptanalysis to recover the key. Romulus, one of the final candidates for the NIST Lightweight Cryptography standardization competition, is based on Tweakable block cipher Skinny-128-384+. In this paper, the SITM attack is applied to Skinny-128-384 implemented with 14-round partial masking. This attack not only increased depth by one round, but also significantly reduced the time/data complexity to 214.93/214.93. Depth refers to the round position of the block cipher that collects the power trace, and it is possible to measure the appropriate number of masking rounds required when applying the masking technique to counter this attack. Furthermore, we extend the attack to Romulus's Nonce-based AE mode Romulus-N, and Tweakey's structural features show that it can attack with less complexity than Skinny-128-384.
