  • The objective of this study was to determine amino acid and protein contents of brown and milled non-glutinous rice of 13 cultivars in Korea. Protein contents of MRs (milled rices) were in order of Haepum (7.27%) > Hanareum No. 4 (7.14%) > Odae (6.84%). Protein contents of BRs (brown rices) were in order of Haepum (7.68%) > Odae (7.63%) > Hanareum No. 4 (7.60%). The amino acid content was the highest in Haepum (MR 5.76%, BR 6.49%), followed by Haedeul (MR 5.71%, BR 6.30%), and Odae (MR 5.63%, BR 6.29%). The essential amino acid contents of non-glutinous rices were in order of Haepum (MR 2.34%, BR 2.57%) > Haedeul (MR 2.31%, BR 2.48%) > Odae (MR 2.20%, BR 2.56%). The contents of amino acid and protein in BRs were considerably higher than those in MRs. Protein and most of amino acid contents were higher in Haepum than the other cultivars. The certificated reference material (CRM) 1849a (infant/adults nutritional formular) from National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) was used as the test sample to determine the precision and accuracy of the analytical method. The regression analyses revealed good correlations (correlation coefficient), greater than 0.99. The recovery values of the amino acids ranged from 93.17 to 99.59%. The limit of detection (LODs) ranged from 0.01 - 0.07 mg·100 g-1 and the limit of quantitation (LOQs) ranged from 0.03 - 0.21 mg·100 g-1 for all analytes.

  • A goal of a BISDN network is to provided integrated transport for a wide range of applications such as teleconferencing, Video On Demand etc. There require multipoint communications in addition to conventional point-to-point connections. Therefore multicast capabilities are very essential in multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a new multicast cell scheduling method on the Parallel Multicast Packet Switch with Ring network: PMRN which are based on separated HOL. In this method, we place two different HOLs, one for unicast cells and the other for multicast cells. Then using non-FIFO scheduling, we can schedule both unicast cells and multicast cells which are available at the time in the input buffer. The simulation result shows that this method reduces the delay in the input buffer and increases the efficiency of both point-to-point network and ring network and finally enhances the bandwidth of the overall packet switch. • Purpose - The cosmetics industry is a traditional high value-added industry in terms of the domestic demand, small batch production systems, exclusive competition, and raw materials highly dependent on overseas countries as well as an oligopolistic market structure. However, new foreign brands and growing consumer awareness of inexpensive products, has triggered a shift. In line with changing lifestyles and the polarization of consumption, the industry faces a new market structure. Among its key characteristics is the cosmetics industry's numerous distribution channels (i.e., department stores, door-to-door sales, online shopping malls, brand shops, and discount stores). Therefore, the study of its distribution channels is essential. Research design, data, and methodology - The study analyzed channel distribution power divided into coercive and non-coercive power. The factors of coercive power included: unilateral request of an increase in commissions, interference in sales by taking advantage of a superior status, unilateral buck-passing at the time of a problem, unilateral request to stop sales activities, and a unilateral business contract; the factors of non-coercive power included favorable payment conditions, offers of various kinds of information, policy on commission reduction, pride in market entrance, and promotion support. In addition, the mediating variable "interdependence" was applied to the execution of department store (or mart) power and their shop conflicts and satisfaction to examine direct and indirect influential power. The methodology was a survey of managers of cosmetics shops in department stores (or marts). The questionnaire, based on a five-point Likert scale, included questions about basic personal information, execution of power, interdependence, conflict, and satisfaction. The study distributed 198 questionnaires and collected 131. Ten questionnaires with missing or hard to analyze data were excluded. Thus, 121 copies were analyzed. Results - According to the analysis, the execution of coercive power by department stores (or marts) did not affect interdependence, but the execution of non-coercive power did. Interdependence did not influence conflict, but did affect satisfaction. Additionally, the analysis revealed direct influential power: the execution of coercive power positively affected conflict and negatively influenced satisfaction; the execution of non-coercive power positively affected satisfaction. Conclusions - To offer suggestions for distribution business relations in the cosmetics industry, this study investigated how the execution of power by department stores (or marts) affected their shops. More specifically, it examined how much the execution of both coercive power and non-coercive power influenced conflict and satisfaction, and analyzed the mediating role of interdependence. In line with previous study results in various areas, coercive power was shown to be the source of conflict, leading to a decrease in satisfaction, whereas non-coercive power significantly positively influenced satisfaction. Moreover, non-coercive power increased interdependence, which led to greater satisfaction. As a result, interdependence had a mediating effect on non-coercive power and satisfaction. Based on the results, department stores (or marts) should look for improvements plans that increase interdependence. Such plans could alleviate conflict with the shops, increasing their satisfaction.

  • Puddling before rice transplanting, which has been practiced traditionally, is no longer considered an essential process due to the overall development of agriculture. Non-puddling, a technique that omits rotary plow in a flooded condition after leveling and transplants immediately. In this study, we conducted the first case study in South Korea on the differences between puddling and non-puddling, and uploaded some of the data to Github. The effects of shortening and dispersing practices during the busy farming season, suppressing soil plow pan formation, and preventing non-point pollution emissions were confirmed in the early stages before and after transplanting. However, some limitations such as weed occurrence when lots of rain or water management practices fail, so it is recommended to implement non-puddling in irrigated paddy fields.

  • Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a positive strand RNA virus of the Flaviviridae family and the major cause of post-transfusion non-A, non-B hepatitis. Vaccine development for HCV is essential but has been slowed by poor understanding of the type of immunity that naturally terminates HCV infection. The DNA-based immunization technique offers the potential advantage of including cellular immune responses against conserved internal proteins of a virus, as well as the generation of antibodies to viral surface proteins. Here, we demonstrate that cell lines expressing the HCV core and/or NS3 proteins can induce a specific CTL response in mice, and these results suggest a possibility that the HCV core and NS3 DNA can be used to induce CTL activity against the antigen in mice and can be further developed as a therapeutic and preventive DNA vaccine.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ipsilateral shoulder pain affects the sensorimotor function of the same side shoulder in patients with stroke. Methods: Thirty stroke patients, who were divided into the ipsilateral shoulder pain group (n=15) and the ipsilateral shoulder non-pain group (n=15). Subjects were evaluated on performance of a tracking task, joint reposition test and 9-Hole pegboard test for sensorimotor functions, and Fugl-Meyer test and Motricity Index for functional ability of the contralateral side. Results: In comparison of the two groups, significant differences in performance on functional ability, including the Fugl-Meyer test(both upper and lower limb) and Motricity Index(only lower limb) were observed (p<0.05). With regard to sensorimotor functions, the ipsilateral shoulder pain group were observed significantly poor scores on the Accuracy Index, joint reposition score and 9-Hole pegboard test, when compared with the ipsilateral shoulder non-pain group (p<0.05). Conclusion: We found that ipsilateral shoulder pain could impede accurate performance of a movement and result in deteriorated proprioception of the ipsilateral shoulder. Therefore, careful evaluation and appropriate therapeutic intervention are essential for stroke patients who suffer from ipsilateral shoulder pain.

  • As the pharmaceutical industry grows and becomes more competitive, the need of automation increases to establish effective mass production and to maintain consistent quality control. Accurate counting and packing of medicinal pills is one of the most essential processes that the automation can benefit. In conventional automated counting and packing processes, the performance of counting process varies with the size, the shape and the dispersion degree of pills. In this research, the authors developed a new pill-counting algorithm based on carefully analyzed characteristics of the pill-drop behavior. Also a new scheme for the packing of an exact number of pills has been implemented. A pill counting and packing machine with the new pill-counting algorithm and the new packing scheme has been constructed and put in an actual production line. To achieve precise and quick sensing of pills dropping at a high speed from the preceding processors, the machine uses non-contact photo sensors. Experimental results from the actual process using the machine are included to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and the machine.

  • The study aims to investigate the implementation of the internal quality assurance system (IQAS) on HEIs performance, mediated by financial management accountability. The commitment from foundation leadership on financial management accountability and their implications for HEIs' performance is also carefully examined. This study employs samples of 108 respondents from the leadership of private HEIs under Region IV Service Institutions. The purposive sampling, as a part of non-probability sampling was chosen as the sampling technique. Statistical data analysis conducted by use the structural equation model to test the hypothesis. The results reveal that the implementation of IQAS does not influence the financial management accountability, but it has an essential role on HEIs' performance. Moreover, foundation leadership's commitment has a significant positive effect on financial management accountability and HEIs' performance. Financial management accountability also has a significant positive effect on HEIs' performance. Financial management becomes important because the entire activities of HEIs should end with financial reporting. Therefore, financial and non-financial aspects are two interrelated and complementary aspects in the accreditation process. The findings of this study suggest that that performance measurement is very crucial as a part of the efforts to meet the general accountability requirement for organizations, particularly in HEIs.

  • Listening comprehension can be defined as a process of an integrative, positive and creative activity through which listeners get the message of speakers' production using linguistic or non-linguistic redundancy as well as linguistic or non-linguistic knowledge. Compared with reading comprehension, it has many difficulties especially for foreigners. while it can be transferred to the other skills: speaking, reading, writing. With this said, listening comprehension can be taught effectively using the following teaching strategies. First. systematic and intensive instruction of segmental phonemes, suprasegmental phonemes and sound changes must be given to remove the difficulties of listening comprehension concerned with the identification of sounds. Second, vocabulary drill through various games and other activities is absolutely needed until words can be unconsciously recognized. Without this, comprehension is almost impossible. Third, instruction of sentence structures is thought to be essential considering grammar is supplementary to listening comprehension and reading comprehension for academic purpose. So grammar translation drills, mechanical drills, meaningful drills and communicative drills should be performed in succession with common or frequently used structures. Fourth, listening activities for overall comprehension should teach how to receive overall meaning of intended messages intact. Linguists and literatures have listed some specific activities as follows: Total Physical Response, dictation, role playing, singing songs, selective listening, picture recognition, list activities, completion, prediction, true or false choice, multiple choice, seeking of specific information, summarizing, problem-solving and decision-making, recognization of relationships between speakers, recognition of mood, attitude and behavior of speakers.
