The human pulse wave is a vital biosignal that includes the diagnostic data related with the heart and the cardiovascular system of human body. Based on the mechanical transducing method, a pulse detection transducer using optical fiber was developed to acquire the pulses non-invasively. To improve the detection efficiency, we proposed a new design that consists of two combinational parts; detecting part, which is in contact with the pulsating skin and transmits the displacement motion of the pulsating skin to the sensing part, and sensing part, which converts the physical quantity transmitted from the detecting part to electronic signal. By using the new method, we confirmed that the proposed transducer can detect the C point(incisura) and the T wave(tidal wave) which is not easily detected by existing transducers.

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, various methods have been devised to prevent infections caused by physical contact. Among them, a non-contact button was developed to prevent infections in elevators, where many contacts occur in daily life. In this study, an active shield type capacitance sensor is used to detect changes in capacitance when a finger approaches. There is no static power consumption, and the relatively expensive ADC and MCU are reduced to one by sensing buttons every time using analog switches. In addition to the elevator buttons, this technology is expected to replace push-type buttons that many people contact in everyday life.
The purpose of this study is to present an effective methodology that can measure heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, respiration rate, mental stress level, and blood pressure using mobile front camera that can be accessed most in real life. Face recognition was performed in real-time using Blaze Face to acquire facial image data, and the forehead was designated as ROI (Region Of Interest) using feature points of the eyes, nose, and mouth, and ears. Representative values for each channel of the ROI were generated and aligned on the time axis to measure vital signs. The vital signs measurement method was based on Fourier transform, and noise was removed and filtered according to the desired vital signs to increase the accuracy of the measurement. To verify the results, vital signs measured using facial image data were compared with pulse oximeter contact sensor, and TI non-contact sensor. As a result of this work, the possibility of extracting a total of six vital signs (heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, stress, and blood pressure) was confirmed through facial images.

Various forms of wearable bio-signal monitoring systems have been developed recently. Acquisition of stable bio-signal data for health care purposes needs to be unconscious and continuous without hindrance to the users' daily activities. The garment type is a suitable form of a wearable bio-signal monitoring system; however, motion artifacts caused by body movement degrade the signal quality during the measurement of bio-signals. It is crucial to stabilize the electrode position to reduce motion artifacts generated when in motion. The problems with motion artifacts remain unresolved despite their significant effect on bio-signal monitoring. This research creates a foundation for the design of garment-type wearable systems for everyday use by finding a method to reduce motion artifacts through modular design. Two distinct garment-type wearable systems (tee-shirt with a motion artifact-reducing module (MARM) and tee-shirt without a MARM) were designed to compare the effects of modular design on the measurement of heart activity in terms of electrode position displacement, signal quality index value, and morphological quality. The tee-shirt with MARM showed superior properties and yielded higher quality signals than the tee-shirt without MARM. In addition, the tee-shirt with MARM showed a better repeatability of the heart activity signals. Therefore, a garment design with MARM is an efficient way to acquire stable bio-signals while in motion.

In this study, we developed a feasible structure of a textile-based inductive sensor using a machine embroidery method, and applied it to a non-contact type vital sign sensing device based on the principle of magnetic-induced conductivity. The mechanical heart activity signals acquired through the inductive sensor embroidered with conductive textile on fabric were compared with the Lead II ECG signals and with respiration signals, which were simultaneously measured in every case with five subjects. The analysis result showed that the locations of the R-peak in the ECG signal were highly associated with sharp peaks in the signals obtained through the textile-based inductive sensor (r=0.9681). Based on the results, we determined the feasibility of the developed textile-based inductive sensor as a measurement device for the heart rate and respiration characteristics.
The purpose of this study is to utilize technology as basic data for smart clothing product research and development. This technology can recognize user's motion according to characteristics types and functions of wearable smart clothing products. In order to analyze the case of motion recognition products, we searched for previous research data and cases referred to as major keywords in leading search engines, Google and Naver. Among the searched cases, information on the characteristics and major functions of the 42 final products selected on the market are examined in detail. Motion recognition for smart clothing products is classified into four body types: head & face, body, arms & hands, and legs & feet. Smart clothing products was developed with various items, such as hats, glasses, bras, shirts, pants, bracelets, rings, socks, shoes, etc., It was divided into four functions health care type for prevention of injuries, health monitor, posture correction, sports type for heartbeat and exercise monitor, exercise coaching, posture correction, convenience for smart controller and security and entertainment type for pleasure. The function of the motion recognition smart clothing product discussed in this study will be a useful reference when designing a motion recognition smart clothing product that is blended with IT technology.

This paper describes a compact and novel wireless vital sign sensor at 2.4 GHz that can detect heartbeat and respiration signals. The oscillator circuit incorporates a planar resonator, which functions as a series feedback element as well as a near-field radiator. The periodic movement of a human body during aerobic exercise could cause an input impedance variation of the radiator within near-field range. This variation results in a corresponding change in the oscillation frequency and this change has been utilized for the sensing of human vital signs. In addition, a surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter and power detector have been used to increase the system sensitivity and to transform the frequency variation into a voltage waveform. The experimental results show that the proposed sensor placed 20 mm away from a human body can detect the vital signs very accurately.
With the widespread use of high-performance electronics and mobile communications, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding has become crucial for protection against malfunctioning of electronic equipment and harmful effects to human health. In addition, smart sensor technologies will be rapidly developed in untact (non-contact) environments and personal healthcare fields. Herein, we introduce our recently developed technologies for flexible multifunctional EMI shielding, and highly sensitive wearable pressure-strain and humidity sensors realized using low-dimensional nanomaterials.

Nitrogen (N) management is critical for corn production. On the other hand, N leaching into the groundwater creates serious environmental problems. There is a demand for sensors that can assess the plant N deficiency throughout the growing season to allow producers to reach their production goals, while maintaining environmental quality. This paper reports on the performance of a vision-based reflectance sensor for real-time assessment of N stress level of corn crops. Data were collected representing the changes in crop reflectance in various spectral ranges over several stages of development in the growing season. The performance of this non-contact sensor was validated under various field conditions with reference measurement from a Minolta SPAD meter and stepped nitrogen treatments.
Accurate counting and packaging pills is one of the most fundamental works of the pharmaceutical industry. But it is so labor consuming and very hard to be automated. As the pharmaceutical industry is growing bigger, the need of counting and packaging automation is increasing to obtain effective mass production. Precise and quick sensing is required in the counting and processing of quickly dropping pills to improve the productivity. There are many trials for this automation and automatic machine. But the performance of the existing counting machine varies with the size, shape and the dispersion degree of pills In this research, authors design the counting and packing machine of medicinal pills that is more accurate and highly trustworthy After getting analog signal from optical sensor, pill passage is discriminated from chosen characteristic feature using microprocessor.
